Apos: Damn, it dethroned Jack And Jill? That's no mean feat.

Yeesh. That was a turd hydrogen bomb, too.

Movie 43 looks like there's a few funny bits (all of which we've probably seen in the commercials already) and the rest is just "HEY LOOK HOW MANY PEOPLE I KNOW" mixed with "LOOK HOW GROSS WE ARE ISN'T THAT HILARIOUS".

I don't know what the fark that movie is supposed to be about, the previews make no real connection to any plot. But they are advertising the hell out of it.

It's apparently a collection of skits, sort of a Kentucky Fried Movie kinda deal.

I've seen ads for it running before videos on porn tube sites like redtube.  I find it hilarious that mainstream movies advertise in porn now.

That was the WHOLE point of the movie. It was never made to be a hollywood blockbuster or have a storyline worth watching for.

If you want depth and meaning, go watch Lost and be disappointed at how it ends. Or Battlestar Galactica. Or St. Elsewhere.

I thought the point was to get high profile stars into witty, raunchy vignettes that are accentuated by the casting choices, not two hours of Oscar-nominated poop jokes.

"It wasn't meant to be some kind of GOOD movie" is an interesting defense, Mr. Farrelly.

I somehow doubt that.

Sight unseen, I have to believe that there are worse movies than that.

Academy Award winner Halle Berry no longer can cite "Catwoman" as the low point of her career. In "Movie 43," she initiates a game of "Truth or Dare" on a blind date - and that leads to Berry making guacamole by mashing avocados with her bare breasts, and inserting a turkey baster filled with extra-hot sauce into herself. And then things get REALLY ugly. My God, do they get ugly.

I... I must see this.

Yes, I must spend two hours of my short time remaining on this earth watching this movie so that I may see this.

You're aware that when most people criticize this stuff, it's a criticism of the content and not the concept?  Most people don't dislike lowest-common denominator comedies and loud, noisy action movies.  They dislike the bad ones.  I would imagine the same applies here.

After I'd seen the TV spots a couple of times, it was obvious to me that this wasn't meant to be an award winner. But, I did get the idea that it was intended to be a humorous film more in line with us low brow folks. As this article said, I was hoping for a "Groove Tube" or "Kentucky Fried Movie" type of film. I'll watch it when it gets to RedBox and will probably end up thinking that it was worth the dollar. I'm not going to expect anything but a bunch of raunchy humor, politically incorrect vignettes and scatological references. I'm fine with that. If you're the type of person that likes Woody Allen movies and hates Dumb and Dumber: don't go see this movie, dumbass; don't complain about it; move along and shut the fark up.

Complaining about this movie is like going to a wrastlin' match and constantly pointing out that jumping off the top turnbuckle and landing on someone's throat with your knee would kill a b*itch. No sh*t, Sherlock. That's the damn joke.

That's impossible. Either you have to love all crude comedies, or you're a snob who only likes black and white French comedies from the mid-60s. You can't judge movies on a case by case basis.

Me too. I like all kinds of comedies. I can tell from the previews what kind of movie this will be. Will I go watch it in the theater? Hell, no. There are other movies I want to see. The fact that there are a bunch of stars in it means nothing to me. But there are plenty of morons who like Jersey Shore and watching TMZ who will get baked and go see this thing. They'll laugh and the humor won't make their brains hurt.

In 6 months I'll probably have a bad day or something and I'll want to rent a movie I don't have to concentrate on. I'll get a few beers and rent this movie and I'll snicker at the stupid jokes and make raspberries at the absolutely bad ones--and when it's done--I won't be angry that I got ripped off.

Meh...

The Room holds a special place in my heart as being the most hilariously incompetent piece of film making I've ever witnessed. It's largely not awful though because it holds your attention similar to the way a chimp on LSD would. You know nothing brilliant is going to happen, but you're also not quite sure how weird things are going to get either.

FTFA:

Farrelly was going for a 21st century version of "The Groove Tube" and "Kentucky Fried Movie," two very funny, very raunchy and very influential sketch-comedy flicks of the mid-1970s.

The only thing "Movie 43" has in common with those movies is it's in color.

4seasons85!: I'm still trying to figure out how they got so many reputable actors and actresses in this terrible movie. I think it is so odd to hear Kate Winslet is in it. That's.. just odd.

1) Actors who frequently play intelligent, discerning characters may not actually be intelligent or discerning. In fact, smarts in an actor can be a crippling, career-limiting disability.

2) Kate Winslet enjoys scat play.

dougfm: Apos: Damn, it dethroned Jack And Jill? That's no mean feat.

Movie 43 is at 6% on Rotten Tomatoes while Jack and Jill is 3% so Adam Sandler is still the big winner/loser.

I stand corrected: It's on the verge of dethroning J & J.

Farrelly must be wearing a shiat-faced grin right about now.

If you think this movie looks funny you are a god damn moron who deserves to have his money fleeced from him. I wouldn't even waste the time to pirate this turd.

For a website who hates Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer with the passion of a thousand hell's, i am blown away that THIS piece of shiat somehow gets a pass from some of you.

gilgigamesh: Academy Award winner Halle Berry no longer can cite "Catwoman" as the low point of her career.

Sh*t...you spend your two hours (and $20) on a sh*tty movie just to see her tits...in the meantime I'll spend 30 minutes and zero money on free porn sites and get better T&A pictures/videos - let's see who gets the better material.

I just don't get people going to movies with the sole objective of seeing some T&A. Maybe back during the "Porky's" era, but with the advent of the innerboobs, it just makes sense to stay at home.

Even movies in general...with today's advanced TVs and the ability to create surround-sound at home...I haven't been inside a movie theatre in....years. I don't like mixing with the popcorn-crunching, drink slurping, cellphone answering...people - I hate people. I don't care if I see movies "after" they are current - in my circles we don't sit discussing movies or TV.

I love it. In a few weeks or so I'll rent (or check out) "Ted" for a pittance, get a much more enjoyable viewing experience watching at home, watch the movie WHEN I want to, no rude interruptions, no paying $10 for popcorn, hell...have a few beers while watching or maybe some toking! I can start and stop the movie as I please, I have total control over my viewing experience and can even invite the people I LIKE to share in the experience if the whole "crowd" thing enhances the movie.

I seriously don't see the "movie theatre" experience lasting for too many more years. AMC and the like will have to develop their own tech-based offerings or fall by the wayside.

So what do other FARKERs think? Is the "go to a movie theatre" experience going to be a relic anytime soon, given the advances in home-viewing technology?

While some movies are made for the big screen (for the 'sploshins), I generally don't go to the theater either. Mostly because of the reasons you list (I hate people, too), and because most movies are disappointing for the cost.

I saw it last night, hoping to laugh. I laughed a lot. I'm a geneticist, not a troglodyte. There are plenty of funny parts that aren't in the previews, and the parts you've seen in the previews may be played out, but when I saw them in context I still at least laughed. If you don't want to watch a couple of unrelated shorts, don't go see it. If the premise is interesting to you and you enjoy going to the movies, then go. Why does it have to be anything other than EXACTLY WHAT IT CLAIMED TO BE? I love films. This is a flick. Some people can understand the difference and laugh every now and again.

I'm going to be 42 years old in a few months.

There's no way I'm wasting ANY time that I have left on Earth watching something as horrible-sounding as this. I have better things to do with my two hours, like scraping gunk off my shoes or propositioning nuns during moments of weakness. I can't understand why anyone would deem their time worth less than the residue left on the front of a gas station toilet, let alone why anyone would pay for it.

Seriously, you could be taking a class on collecting vintage phone books and it would still be a better use of your time than watching this movie.

Usually, the theaters are me and about 70 old folks.
Still better than Saturday night shows with idiot teenagers. At least the geezers aren't texting through the whole movie.

Bad comedies are probably the worst kind of movies. It can be fun to see a bad drama that didn't work, a bad horror movie that didn't work, or a bad romance that didn't work... but a bad comedy that doesn't work is just awful since it doesn't get saved by the unintentional comedy.

I did see Movie 43 this weekend and need to clarify that my expectations were low before buying the ticket. The initial appeal was the idea of these very serious actors agreeing to appear in a Wayons-esque "comedy". There were a few funny moments but most of the time I was asking myself "WTF am I watching?"

This movie makes PootieTang or UHF look like The Shawshank Redemption.

Oh and don't get too excited over some Halle Berry T&A. Even that in the movie is overly fake for "comedic" effect.

I often wonder with the Idiocracy "theory", that even someone from like 1952 being "frozen" until 2012... while they would be amazed by some of the technology advances (although, wondering about "we don't have flying cars yet?" types of things they were "promised" back in the 50s, etc), I think many would have an "Idiocracy" type reaction to the reality TV and "obscene to obscenities sake" media that is prevalent now.

I thought the same thing. When they can't find enough good scenes to make just a TRAILER look funny you know you are in trouble.
