Great headline.

FTFA: A San Antonio Police officer said he caught McGee, 47, in the act, and was wearing his Bexar County Sheriff's Office badge and hat.

Okay. I know we have some police officers here on Fark. Do they not do some type of intelligence testing before handing out badges?

2013-01-26 12:40:19 AM
A police officer named McGee
Actually thought himself above the law, you see
This supposed crime stopper
Was caught stealing copper
And a deserved +1 goes to subby!

No it's a psych profile, and the cops score the same as the perps.

Dammit, that's why I should read the comments instead of just look for screenshots. I raise my tiny fist up and shake it like so, sir.

Sure they do. You're forgetting one important thing: Cops are human beings, like everyone else. They have their own motivations and reasons. Some of them are less than altruistic. Chances are this asshole wore his uniform because he thought no one would intervene or question what he was doing.

You know what they say subby

better copy that down and put it in yr wallet bc you'll never write anything as clever as that again ...

According to a police report, McGee told the officer he thought it would be OK to take the copper because the building was abandoned.
That's the best excuse you could come up with? How many times in his career has he heard that lame line?
He should have tried the ol' "Oh, some dude said I could have this..."

According to a police report, McGee told the officer he thought it would be OK to take the copper because the building was abandoned.

Now, Deputy McGee, if you had spotted some homeless man stripping copper from that building, and he gave you that same excuse, would you have hesitated ONE SECOND before tossing him in back of your cruiser and hauling his ass to jail?

Either way, this guy is a dumbass. Because if he were to say "Nah, I'd let him go ahead and take the wire," he'd be a bad cop; and if he said, "Hell no! I'd bust the damn thief!" he'd be a hypocrite. I'm going with dumber than a box of rocks, myself. Wonder how much else he's stolen in the last couple years.

♫ So get your hot poppin' popcorn, poppin' hot popcorn.
Get it while it's hot corn, whoa.
Eat it while you watch corn hot poppin' popcorn.
Pop it and away you go.
Once it starts poppin', there's no way a-stoppin'
That hot poppin' popcorn flow.
So eat your loving popcorn, hot poppin' popcorn.
Now it's on with the show. ♫

Yes. And if they score too high they don't hire them.

Good thing this didn't happen with bison, near the city of Buffalo, or involve intimidation.

Because that could get confusing.

Here we go:

Court OKs Barring High IQs for Cops

From a different article:

The City of New London contends that applicants who score too high on a pre-employment test are likely to become bored in patrol jobs, and leave the force soon after the city has paid to train them.

Yes, and in some states, if you score too highly on the test, you will not be allowed to become a cop.

Ask why I'm renovating my wifes dream home and the first thing I did was install a really nice alarm system in the basement?

(because im a landlord and I've had copper stolen from eight of our properties)

Copper thieves should  be shot on sight, better yet on suspicion. Like if you drive up to a recycling center and there is half inch copper tubing in the bed of your truck and its worth more than your truck.....pow.

To be fair, small towns have a major problem with people joining their police force, using the department funds to get their POST certification, and then getting a job in a big city department and leaving.

Puntastic, subby! (Awful word that just came to me. It feels icky to me too but hey).

Thieves of any fashion suck. This cop knew better. shiat like this, once again, makes honest cops (of whom I have many friends) look bad.

I weigh in with +29 up votes, subby.

I run a recycling center. You would not believe how much stuff walks away, in spite of our best efforts. People either know they're stealing and don't care, or they think it's trash, and it doesn't occur to them that our income is from the sale of those commodities. Load up your truck with our scrap metal, and you just reduced my hard-working staff's Christmas bonus.

To Corrections Officers? I don't believe so. They don't get guns or cars, so I'm thinking they aren't trusted to do the real police work.

Wait. I just caught that part.

Is he a Deputy assigned to the jail, or an actual corrections officer. Because they're two different things. If he's a deputy, he's had to have the psych and intelligence test for his POST training. If he's a CO, it depends on the jurisdiction he's in - some have to attend an actual academy, some don't.

I suppose it was too much to hope that his name was Clarence and he was from Cincinnati, and that the abandoned building was a club...

/Clarence the cop from Cincinnati clearly copped the copper from an abandoned club.

2013-01-26 08:13:34 AM
The copper is lucky he got copped by a copper before getting capped by Reddy Kilowatt.
