This is something Dr. Spock advocated in the 50's' and 60's so I'll give the parents a pass.

Kid sounds like an unholy terror at only 11 years of age. I find myself sympathetic to Mama's plight.

Are handcuffs still OK?

Mesa police officers responded to a home near Broadway Road and Val Vista Drive on Wednesday after receiving a call from a neighbor.

Woah. I lived in that area for a year in HS.

So ... what should she have done? Taken him with her? While this isn't stellar parenting, it isn't as if she had him staked in the middle of the back yard in 115 degree weather.

Why not take the little punk with her?

In situations like these it would seem more reasonable for the cops to just tell her that the way she's going about it is not quite correct, and then leave.

One count of child abuse and one count of unlawful imprisonment for a mother trying to keep her grounded child inside for a moment seems awfully excessive.

Nevertheless, odds are these cops will be no stranger to this kid in the future. I have a feeling they'll be quite acquainted down the road.

it must be tough when your child learns the law is on their side to be a little shiat for brains.

Cops use zip ties in some cities or riot situations instead of handcuffs, until the suspect can be taken to jail. Mom uses zip tie till she was taken to jail. So, zip ties used on someone means someone is going to jail. Mmmkay.

Pretty good news day in Arizona, check out the sidebar:

"Babeu to president: Laws created by executive orders are unconstitutional"
"Teacher's aide accused of group sex with students on campus"
"Mesa woman arrested after son found zip-tied to pole"
"Mom of boy who overdosed on methadone in Kool-Aid gets 10 years in prison"

She spent 24 hours in jail. She tried to restrain the kid from running away--which is what he has done in the past EVERYTIME HE IS CAUGHT SHOPLIFTING--while she went in and changed the baby's diaper.

I'm not condoning what she did. I'm just wondering why the state didn't step in and do more before it got this bad. This kid is well on his way to being a felon and she's the one doing jail time.

obviously she has parenting down pat. needs to have more children.

There's a reason why she had zip-ties on hand.

The little shiat probably chewed through through the leather straps.

I kinda feel for the mom.

As a kid I would take off all the time regardless of what my parents tried.

I really feel sorry for this mother tbh.

Allow him to continue to be arrested till the state takes him off your hands. Should be another two years or so.

Then people will tell you what a rotten parent you are and how you failed as a mother; but honestly, it sounds like Junior there is shaping up to be some kind of sociopath so in the long run, you and your daughter are probably better off.

I don't. If he's a lousy kid, it's because she's a lousy parent. She needs to deal with the problem, not zip tie it and walk away.

The only hope for either of these kids would have been mom leaving them behind at the hospital to be adopted by somebody else. We can only hope she's been fixed.

Yeah, and it was pretty nice out Wednesday.

When I was kid, one of our neighbors was a sheriff. He regularly handcuffed his kid to a lightpole in the front yard as public punishment for minor infringements.

I'm just not sure why she zip tied him outside...
Also, it switches between she did it and left for several errands and she only had to get the two year old out of the car and into a fresh diaper.

I don't condone it but...he sounds like a butthole. World's best parents can still somehow manage to raise completely farked kids.

I'm not up to speed on who Babeu is or where methadone mom is, but I know the teacher sex story is from true-blue NJ. Sorry to ruin your party.

Maybe she'll get lucky and they'll take the little bastard off her hands.
She should have just beat the kid into submission, but by eleven they have the layout of what they can get away with, and she blew it.
