Much newer Quinnipiac poll not only gives Booker a 51-30 lead over a sitting Senator, but also puts his approvals at 54/16/29, and he's in positive territory even with Republicans by 12 points.

And that brings me to the point I was originally going to make: For as much as I like him, finding heroic things to do in Newark is like shooting fish in a barrel.

As someone who travels through Newark twice a day on my way to NYC, I see the turn around that is happening all the time. All the old factory buildings being torn down, new housing being put.. it's really coming along and he has a lot to do with it. Good man.

I feel like he's genuine, as well. I mean, in a world where many elected officials seem to actively hate portions of, if not all of, their constituents, I can see how he may come off as someone just doing things for publicity. I just don't get the feeling that he is in it for the free PR. I think he enjoys helping people, and has a little fun with it. If you follow his Twitter, you can see that.

No, I didn't post in the article. And I'm glad people in Newark like him. If I lived in Newark, I might even vote for him. But every article I read about him leaves me with the abiding conviction that he cares more about making himself look good than he does about actually helping the people in his city. I hope I'm wrong -- if he really IS that good a person, he's the biggest altruist to be elected to politics maybe ever. As it is the whole twitter feed thing strikes me as AWing and not much more.

No, it isn't jealousy. I do not care to hold political office. I do not care to be Twitter famous. Or TFamous. Or any other kind of famous. And I certainly don't ever want to move back to New Jersey. I *do* care about being a good husband and a good father, and a good co-worker to the people on my team at my office. If not a single person outside those groups ever comes to know about how I've lived me life, I'm fine with that. If I ever get a chance to rescue a dog from the cold, I'll be perfectly content if only the dog and I know about it.

As much as I think he's motivated by pandering to the masses for good PR to get re-elected, I absolutely agree with this. If we assume that we live in a world that needs politicians, the least they can do is buy free press through helping people in little ways.

No, I didn't post in the article. And I'm glad people in Newark like him. If I lived in Newark, I might even vote for him. Personally, I like Booker. Not sure on the comment about Booker on social security. Everything I've seen of him points to wanting to strengthen our social safety nets, not to get rid of them, but I'm not from Jersey.

Is he also devoting the time he should be to the much harder, deeper problems confronting Newark? If he's taking on the big issues AND the little issues, then maybe the guy really is a modern-day saint. I left Jersey 10 years ago, so I've not followed things up there in great detail. Is Booker actually making Newark a better place for everyone, or is he just finding ways to do good things for random individuals and then getting press for them?

Yes, I am. He strikes me as a shallow, self-aggrandizing career politician who focuses on easy / cheap PR, and I've seen nothing in the press to suggest he's made bigger picture contributions to his city on issues that require harder work or engaging in contentiousness. Do you have examples of any? Because if you do I'd be prepared to revisit my opinion of him.

This is after he ran into a burning house and carried out an old woman to save her life.

As long as he doesn't get busted, say, having an affair with his secretary or frequenting high priced hookers like Elliot Spitzer, this guy could go very very far.

And he's relatively young. Assuming he sits out the 2016 presidential election because he'd have to go up against Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, or Andy Cuomo, he'll only be about 56 years old in 2024.
