Like i said upthread, this only makes sense when you look at it from a derp angle. Either way, you should be very afraid. Of something.

If no car can go over 20 miles an hour than there would be fewer fatalities. I mean do you really need to go 40 miles an hour?! And while we are at it lets limit the gear ratios on bicycles! We really need to limit those as well. If it will just save one life how could we not?!

You do realize how easily that can be turned around, right? All we need to do is post a "SPEED LIMIT 120" on your street.

It would be almost funny to watch you try to do it. Be happy with your donkey and cart, peasant.

Pretty much my line of thought. Around here we usually hear this kind of crime called assault with a deadly weapon.

THANK YOU

I absolutely adore how the headline screams Dad points AK-47 at daughter and yet the story states beyond any doubt at all that the weapon was not an AK-47.

I'd insert the journalist's guide to firearms here, but it has ceased to be funny. This isn't stupidity, it is a clear effort to create the image of a crisis that doesn't exist.

Having said that, dad's a dumbass who should both go to prison and lose the right to own a gun.

That definately has me breathing easier!

Oh good! The deadly weapon he pointed at his daugher was just a regular rifle, not an assautl rifle.

Geez, why is everyone getting so bent out of shape over this?

The fact that he pointed ANY gun at his child is an inexcusable act sufficient to warrant immediate castration. IDGAF what they do to him.

As to why we're bent out of shape? The headline is a lie written for no purpose other than to sensationalize the story.

It has been posted in many other threads but I'll point out again that rifles of all types were used to murder 323 people last year - less than 1/4 of the number murdered were the weapons were hands and feet. There is no assault weapons scourge, yet without it there is no momentum for new gun laws. Gotta keep saying AR-15 and AK-47 to make folks think they're everywhere and that the average citizen is in imminent peril.

I've been shooting guns since I was 5 or so. I'm now 45 and I've never been an NRA member because I didn't think their stance was realistic or even good. I thought 'slippery slope' and gun grabbers theory was unrealistic. I don't own any tactical style rifle or a handgun with a magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds nor do I plan on buying one but I'm joining the NRA. New York and the senator from California have changed my mind and shown me I was wrong. They're trying to launch a movement that will end with them coming for my shotgun and the folks writing headlines like this one are complicit. That's why we're bent out of shape.

FTFA:

According to the charges, 52-year-old Kirill Bartashevitch recently purchased the AK-47 due to fears that such weapons would be banned under President Obama's push for gun control legislation.

...

St. Paul police searched the Bartashevitch home and found ammunition and receipts for two gun purchases. One receipt was for Bill's Gun Shop, dated Jan. 22, 2013. An employee of the gun shop confirmed Bartashevitch sold an AK-47 style gun -- specifically a 7.62X54R -- for $150.

The other receipt was for Frontiersman Sport, Inc., also dated Jan. 22, 2013. The gun shop confirmed it sold Bartashevitch sold[sic] a newer AK-47 clone rifle -- a Cal-Zastava PAP 70 7.62X39 -- for $375.

_________________

The problem here is that the copy editor didn't catch the error. The artcle has made mention of two guns purchased, then again two reciepts for the purchases. None of the lead-up mentions him selling a gun. There is an error with the use of the word "sold." This seems to be what so many people are latching onto as proof that the media is embelishing the story.

The media is just not copy-editing its work well enough.

The daughter is an American, public-high-school-attending teenager. If anyone in that demographic doesn't know what an AK-47 looks like, I'll eat my game controller.

topcon: Uh, wow, that's the most stupid article I've seen in some time.

An employee of the gun shop confirmed Bartashevitch sold an AK-47 style gun -- specifically a 7.62X54R -- for $150.

There is no "AK-47 style gun" chambered in 7.62x54R.

The fact the gun is 7.62x54R, and cost $150, almost certainly means it was a Mosin Nagant, a bolt action rifle that hold five rounds, not an AK-47.

Holy shiat, that is a golden article.

not for $150 but... rusty, cracked stock, barrel shot out... maybe, or just not a good one like:

Princess Ryans Knickers: The point he was trying to make is that he's one of the majority of male legal gun owners who end up shooting up their own families.

The majority of male legal gun owners end up shooting their families. Thanks.

Around 43% of the men in America own a gun. That's about 100,000,000 people. Assuming they at least kill one, I wonder what we're going to do with those 50,000,000 bodies.

2013-01-25 05:31:20 PM
Before anyone defends this man, actually read this from TFA:

According to the charges, 52-year-old Kirill Bartashevitch recently purchased the AK-47 due to fears that such weapons would be banned under President Obama's push for gun control legislation.

St. Paul police learned of the Jan. 13 incident after Bartashevitch's daughter sent a text message to a Central High School classmate, saying her father pointed an AK-47 at her. The message was seen by the classmate's mother, who reported it to a school social worker.

In an interview with the social worker, the victim said they were arguing about her grades when she swore at her father and said she "hated" him. At that point, Bartashevitch grabbed his newly-purchased gun and pointed it at his daughter.

If you dare try to argue this man as a responsible gun owner or that responsible gun owners may have to fear similar treatment, I'll say this is why you all are losing the argument. Being such disingenuous, uncritical asshats works under "the Big Tent" but it just turns anyone undecided off from considering a thing you say.

impaler: Bartashevitch admitted having a physical confrontation with his wife and daughter, and admitted to pointing the gun at both of them. He said the gun was not loaded and that he checked the chamber before pointing it at them.

You know, if we needed to at least pass a licensing exam to get weapon, like we do a car, these guy would know that:
1) A gun is ALWAYS loaded.
2) See # 1
3) Did you see #1 yet? If not, see #1

Lorelle: Another day, another Nutty Raving Asshole doing something stupid with a gun.

I would remind you that this so-called "Nutty Raving Asshole" was a responsible, law-abiding gun owner. Right up to the time he, y'know, threatened his family with the gun.

In fact, wasn't there another guy who was a responsible, law-abiding gun owner in the news lately? Until he, y'know, shot a bunch of schoolkids.

My brother-in-law isn't allowed to buy or own guns because once, a really long time ago, he threatened his wife (my wife's sister) with one of their guns. So now she has to buy all the guns for the household, and he's only allowed to use them whenever he feels like it to do anything he wants to.
