Pocket Ninja: Well, if the daughter (and the mom) had been carrying their own guns, this wouldn't have happened, now would it? He probably only felt empowered to do this because he knew they WEREN'T armed and were therefore easy victims. Remember: an armed society is a polite society. I'm glad we can have situations like this crop up every now and then to serve as just illustrations of that very important point.

Not only brilliant, but quick on the draw, as it were.

Fortunately cars were not invented solely for taking human life.

Barracuda: I came here to say "WTF, AK's do not chamber the 7.62x54R round..."

Sounds like the guy bought a Mosin Nagant, a bolt action rifle of Russian make which has been around since the 1800's.  Fixed magazine, 5 total I think, bolt action.  SOOOOOO... not an AK, not even a little.  Well, if you consider them both being Russian make and wood stocks and the same diameter bullet... but holy fark are people pushing this AK / AR / Assault Rifle thing beyond stupid at this point.

But the disinformation is working very well. Fark is wall-to-wall with people who think that scary-looking rifles are assault rifles, and that people are dropping dead left and right because of them.

I think we're missing something from this story.

St. Paul police learned of the Jan. 13 incident after Bartashevitch's daughter sent a text message to a Central High School classmate, saying her father pointed an AK-47 at her

St. Paul police searched the Bartashevitch home and found ammunition and receipts for two gun purchases. One receipt was for Bill's Gun Shop, dated Jan. 22, 2013. An employee of the gun shop confirmed Bartashevitch sold an AK-47 style gun -- specifically a 7.62X54R -- for $150.

The other receipt was for Frontiersman Sport, Inc., also dated Jan. 22, 2013. The gun shop confirmed Bartashevitch sold a newer AK-47 clone rifle -- a Cal-Zastava PAP 70 7.62X39 -- for $375.

2013-01-25 04:24:48 PM

tricycleracer: Bartashevitch admitted having a physical confrontation with his wife and daughter, and admitted to pointing the gun at both of them. He said the gun was not loaded and that he checked the chamber before pointing it at them.

Then what's the farking point?  You may as well have pointed a hammer or an alligator at them.

We already do regulate cars.  They have to have things like break lights for instance.  Cars manufactured after certain dates must have airbags, anti-lock brakes and such.

We need to regulate guns too.

What specific automobile models are banned by name?

I'm not terribly passionate on either side of this debate, but this got me wondering, and there actually are several.

If you want people to buy something you make them believe they are losing something.

I love all the people who really think that the White house isn't aware or couldn't calculate exactly what is happening right now.

If the president says he is going to take your guns, you are going to buy more guns and you are going to get mad at people who don't want guns. You are going to go onto Youtube and tell people that you are going to start killing people because Obama is black.

I missed the part where this became a huge brain-buster.
