I think I can sorta speak it?

I don't know what the words mean, but going to church every Sunday, I memorized HOW to say it, and would just sing along.

At least I think it was Aramaic.  It may have just been Assyrian, but in a different dialect.

*shrugs*

Ugh. The Aramaic spoken in that snuff film is about as representative of Aramaic as the "Kazakh" Borat speaks.

To cite two examples - there is no Aramaic word for "crucifixion" (I don't remember what word they used or what it translates to); and the "hey" and "chet" are two different letters with two different pronunciations ("H" and "*phlegm*", respectively).

// learned Aramaic in HS
// the language of the Talmud, probably a million+ people "speak" it
// Aramaic is a mutant hybrid of Hebrew and Arabic (with some Greek thrown in for funsies)

This is the one thing that REALLY bothers me about Christianity. They tend to act like using Latin is the correct way to speak religiously when Christ spoke Aramaic and it was also the test of most holy texts the Holy Bible is derived from. If they wanted to be proper, they'd speak in Aramaic, not Latin.

Aramaic is the language of the Talmud, studied by Orthodox Jews around the world, The Talmud is written in one of two dialects, Babylonian dialect and the Jerusalem dialect, both similar but imagine American English and Australian English, there are differences. And there were about 15 or 16 different dialects. I can read and write Aramaic due to my Orthodox education, I studied in Yeshiva and can read and write in Aramaic. In fact modern Hebrew script was originally called Ktav Arami (Aramaic Script) because it was a hybrid between ancient Hebrew and Aramic script

Pictures of People reading, writing and using Aramaic

Hint, it at rabbinical schools (one is in the US and the other in Israel in the pics below)

uploads.static.vosizneias.com
www.theyeshivaworld.com

and the actual Talmud
upload.wikimedia.org

So if they want to revive it, just get some Orthodox rabbis, they all know it becuase the exam to become an Orthodox rabbi requires certain Talmudic knowledge which requires fluency in reading and writing Aramaic (some orthodox religious publications still publish in Aramaic)

This seems like the best answer to your question. It doesn't really address the Latin question you have. Latin was spoken primarily by Roman citizens and few others. The lingua franca of the time was Greek as the middle east was entirely Hellenized following the Macedonian conquests and the Ptolemaic dynasties that sprang from them.

Get hold of the original texts, make damn sure you can tell which letters are actually written and which are simply scratches.

Genesis clearly explains that it's billions of years, that there are multiple galaxies and any "center" of the universe depends upon your viewpoint.
It then goes on to talk about quantum physics, antibiotics and a balanced and fair sociopolitical system that would make poverty and war obsolete.

The difference is simply due to mistranslation.
