I think I can sorta speak it?

I don't know what the words mean, but going to church every Sunday, I memorized HOW to say it, and would just sing along.

At least I think it was Aramaic.  It may have just been Assyrian, but in a different dialect.

*shrugs*

I tried to read the New Testament in the original language once, but it was all Greek to me.

There's an inscription in the Cave of Caer Bannorg that talks about the Castle Arrrrrrrgh.

Sometimes a language has just run its course. Let's throw Esperanto down the hole with it.

2013-01-25 01:44:42 PM
Do we really need to save a 'dead' language? Why aren't we working on trying to unite people under a common language?

2013-01-25 01:45:42 PM
Maybe if some country hadn't exterminated most Armenians, there would be more people to speak Aramaic.

//Not Constantinople

Uhhhhh subby. Last I checked everything I've ever read of Jesus' words was in English. I mean.... a little French when I was in Quebec.... but Jesus definitely mostly spoke English.

I think your 'aramaic' is an 'error you made it'.

Next you'll be telling me people used to speak Latin without any pigs around.

Why aren't we working on trying to unite people under a common language?

Because it's damn near impossible to unite people under a common anything.

Ugh. The Aramaic spoken in that snuff film is about as representative of Aramaic as the "Kazakh" Borat speaks.

To cite two examples - there is no Aramaic word for "crucifixion" (I don't remember what word they used or what it translates to); and the "hey" and "chet" are two different letters with two different pronunciations ("H" and "*phlegm*", respectively).

// learned Aramaic in HS
// the language of the Talmud, probably a million+ people "speak" it
// Aramaic is a mutant hybrid of Hebrew and Arabic (with some Greek thrown in for funsies)

Exactly. Furthermore, he spoke the peculiar dialect one hears in that part of the country where Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina come together...

I don't know why they have to work on saving it.  People keep telling me that any day now, a native speaker of that language will be around, so we can just talk to him about it then.

That'll be a great way to permanently store it!
...Until we can't find a working CD player in 90 years because the last one was built in 2022, and the remainder have been held together with chewing gum and the tech's grandfather's repair manuals. It's called the Digital dark age.

There's a reason it died. Jesus Christ, let it go. The sooner we cast off the fetters upon which the republicans base their bigotry, arrogance and ignorance, the sooner we can resume evolving.

But how long, actually, is three days?

I mean The Lord's creation took 7 days yet some say that is a misinterpretation and it's actually billions of years.

I'm confused. Someone please tell me how to think.

"Race to save the language of Jesus: Aramaic in danger of becoming extinct as number of speakers of ancient tongue plummets

Aramaic, which is related to both Hebrew and Arabic and was probably spoken by Jesus (pictured), is threatened with extinction - but efforts are being made to record it."

This is from the home page of 'The Daily Fail', to the left of the bolded part was a 'picture' of Jim Caviezel. Idiots.

Although in the body of the story inside 'they' say it is Caviezel. But still?
