Timmy the Tumor: F*ck Jay Leno.

As far as I'm concerned, Jay Leno and the new Corvette pretty much deserve each other.

I heard they had planned for it to be Conan for two months but just as he was buckling in they changed their mind and had Leno do it.

Of course it's Jay Leno. He only has 100 cars, so he needs to buy 5 of these.

I'm not a fan of the Tonight Show but I do like Jay Leno's car and motorcycle related stuff. While he's not a wrench turner himself, he's an extraordinary nerd when it comes to cars.

I appreciate that fact that he treats his massive car collection as machines to be used not just looked at, he actually drives them on the streets of LA. Oh and when referring to the work done on his cars he always says "we" instead of "I". "We working on 1894 Wolfensteinerhosenboppen whale oil fire steam carriage" or "we decided against replacing the dinged up original rims with reproductions." He appreciates the hard work his team does on his cars.

Did he make a hilarious joke about Michael Jackson?

2013-01-25 12:20:07 PM
Wasn't surprised... Jay is a huge car nerd...
But, he didn't get the rights to buy the first one (apparently you have to "buy" to buy #1 in a production, had no idea)
Some hardcore Corvette collector/seller got that right...
Was on Nightly News or Rock Center last week....

Until Top Gear (BBC not crap american) reviews it I'm not going to believe anything GM has to say.

Corvettes in general are way over-hyped junk when compared to real performance road cars made by European manufacturers.

I understand why - they are cheaper and therefore need to skimp in places that Ferrari or Aston don't have to. But in over the years their history is that they suffer from massive uncontrolled oversteer, are poorly balanced and don't have basic traction control / brake balancing / computer assisted shifting, have cheap and flimsy interior design and materials, and generally give the impression of being a teenager's sports car while at the same time being way out of a teenager's budget.

Give me an Audi/Mercedes/BMW/Porsche/Ferrari/Aston any day.

Car and Driver's staff who recently completed the best driver's car annual competition would disagree (with the exception of the Ferrari Italia)

"Well done fat man from Kentucky!"

Got a close up look at it at the Detroit auto show earlier in the week, gorgeous car. If I wanted to post the pictures I took of it, which image sharing website would be the best? Or should I just go with Photo Bucket?

ah gotta love FARK. The new Corvette, which like the last couple, is considered a very impressive sports car is obviously inferior because it's not made in Europe.

Leno's website (http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/) is pretty cool, he's just a car buff who loves to share his vehicles with the public and talk about them. He once said in an interview he never touched his 'tonight show money' to pay for his cars. He has some pretty interesting stories about the cars he has purchased over the years such as the Duesenberg he purchased from an original owner whose husband had bought it for her. She wrote a letter saying she had an old car he might like without saying what it was, when he called her out of curiosity and asked the make she said "Oh its a Duesenberg Model J" and he sat straight up in his chair. He flew over the next day and said she was no dummy, she knew what it was worth but it was a good price.

I thought all his money was 'tonight show money'. Was there something else that gave him his fortune?

He's a known workaholic, does standup on weekends etc. for all the hate people give him he probably puts in 70-80 hour weeks all the time.

Didn't realize he was still doing stand-up. That is quite the workload on top of a nightly show.

Bindi Irwin? Was going to go with Robert Urich, but he's been dead for a decade, apparently.

NeoCortex42 : I thought all his money was 'tonight show money'. Was there something else that gave him his fortune?

Not sure, maybe his stand up gigs he used to do or perhaps buying and selling his cars?

I know he writes articles for Popular Science about cars so I'm sure he probably has enough secondary income where he would not have to touch his tonight show money.

When you get to the dealership, make it clear you're willing to pay $15k over sticker. They'll work with you.
