This is a story after my own heart. Our kitty, Tilly, was born with radial agenesis too. She was part of our family for 10 years, and just like Harvey, she wasn't aware that she was disabled. She could climb the stairs in our apartment faster than I could.

I just don't want the cat to get cancer later.

There are actual humans out there in need of life saving medical care and people waste money on a farking cat. Unfarking believable.

To be fair, humans have people like you representing them. Cats at least, are occasionally likable.

Can we stop with the "dusty" meme? It's overused and it doesn't evoke any kind of emotional reaction and instead sounds manipulative and conniving.

If an article is sad, just use the sad tag. Stop pretending that you're too man enough to admit it's sad.

People also waste money on guns and SUVs...

*sigh* This is tiresome. The techniques used to help this cat may be used to improve techniques used to help humans who have been born missing bones or who have lost them due to disease or injury. Furthermore, if the people who gave their money to help the cat got satisfaction from their gifts, it's not a waste to them, and it's not for any of us to tell them whether their expenditures of their own money are valid or invalid. Bla bla farking bla.

I heard this cat was a shoe-pooper and a petophile.

They've probably paid to fix another Hitler!

The cat appears to be doing fine. Why put it through the pain of an experiment?

2013-01-25 06:15:02 AM
At the local animal shelter we found a kitten with both hind legs broken. Her bones were shattered and ultimately had to be amputated. We built her a little cart while she was recovering so she could get around.

A month later she was released back to us and got her strapped to the cart, but would have nothing to do with it. Instead she would lift her body up with her front paws and walk around that way. So in the office there was a cat doing hand stands, chasing cat toys and lasers.

//kitty was later adopted by a staff member.

They aren't experimenting on him. The surgery is to prevent future problems with his spine, amongst other things.

But what if that cat was actually an emisssary from the planet Volkaton and our very existence depended on whether or not we were a species worthy of a compassionate galactic brotherhood or just a rock in the path of a hyperspace trade route?

Never thought of that, did you? Less time on Fark and more time looking for a recipient of one of your life-saving kidneys, you greedy selfish bastard.

I fostered a cat with radial agenesis on the right side. He came it at 8 weeks old with a nasty case of pneumonia to boot. He had no clue he was different from the other cats, the other cats didn't care he had a gimpy leg.

He was adopted out pretty quickly to a good home. Had he been born with bilateral radial agenesis, the shelter I pulled him from probably would have euthed him. I have a feeling the only reason he didn't get euthed was that the one shelter worker knew we were coming to pull kittens and 'hid' him in the litter I pulled. We were told it was a litter of 5, but somehow I got 6 cats.

$$$$$$$ to do surgery on this cat but how many thousands of others (that are perfectly healthy) are put down every day.
Money wasted IMO.
