Problem: we want a scapegoat, but we don't have the votes to nail someone at the top

Solution: fire someone further down the ladder instead

Problem: there are these damn laws in place to protect people further down the ladder from being fired for political reasons, laws that insist on those pesky 'facts' and 'evidence'

Solution: since those laws were passed on St. Reagan's watch, we haven't quite figured that one out yet. We'll get back to you.

Here you go.

The money was in a special fund administered by the US Department of Defense, the Development Fund for Iraq (DFI), and was earmarked for reconstruction projects. But the report says that a lack of proper accounting and poor oversight makes it impossible to say exactly what happened to most of it.
According to the report, the Pentagon is unable to fully account for $8.7bn of funds it withdrew between 2004 and 2007, and of that amount it "could not provide documentation to substantiate how it spent $2.6bn

With all due respect, one man's definition of a talking point might be a "report" issued by a bureaucrat ten years after the fact that, without providing concrete evidence, says, "Oh it turns out the money went where it was supposed to go, no harm no foul."

FTFA:

"But apparently, the money was properly transferred to accounts held at the Central Bank of Iraq, the new SIGIR report found."

Glad that's all wrapped up.

And:

"While the bulk of the money was transferred to the Central Bank of Iraq, $217 million remained in a vault in a former presidential palace and was held by the U.S. Defense Department and most was doled out for a variety of projects and payrolls, the report says," Keyes reported. A February 2008 SIGIR audit found that $24.45 million of the $217 million stored at the palace vault remained, and was later turned over to Iraq.

So, even according to this ten-year-after report, $193 million are still missing.

You're making it to complicated.

Here are the facts:

1. This was a law that was had to be signed by the President
2. Barack Obama is currently President

Say, who was in control of the State Department's purse strings, and who voted to cut that budget? I guess we'll never know, another mystery like "who was that mysterious, apolitical man who was president before Obama?"

OK I misread the last part, and it's implying that virtually all of the money was properly distributed.

In a report issued ten years later.

2. Fartbongo is not giving people that he fired a fair chance to defend themselves and is in violation of the law. Impeach him!

Is there an actual citation for that? I'm sure there's huge waste, fraud, and outright theft going on, but that seems like hyperbole...

I'd like to see a citation too, but considering what I know about the whole Iraq Murder Party, I would be far more inclined to believe this is accurate, than a graph that says they can't account for only 4% of it.

Iraq was a Steal-It-All-Now enterprise, and I'm sure it remains unchanged to this day. Grab all you can, get while the getting is good, no questions asked, ain't nobody ever gonna know.

Super...let's have at it.

Let's see...Republicans have blocked/stalled/killed...

Tax on Companies that ship jobs overseas- A bill that would have eliminated a tax break that companies get when they ship jobs overseas. Republicans blocked this, allowing companies to keep the tax break they receive when they ship jobs to other countries.

Political Ad disclosure bill- Would have required all donors to political campaigns to reveal themselves. Republicans blocked this, not once but twice.

Subpoena Power for the Committee investigating the BP Oil Spill - Give subpoena power to the independent committee responsible for investigating BP's roll in the oil spill. Republicans attempted to block this.

The Small Business Jobs Act -would give LOCAL, community banks access to billions of dollars to loan to small businesses. Republicans blocked this, then attempted to block it a second time and failed.

The DREAM Act- Gives immigrant youth who were brought here as children a path to citizenship by earning a college degree or serving the military for 2 years. Republicans blocked this.

Repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"- Would have repealed the law that forces gay and lesbian services members to lie about their sexuality and gives the military the right to discharge soldiers based on their sexuality. Republicans blocked this many times and Democrats were finally able to pass it with the support of just 2 Republicans.

Senator Franken's Anti-Rape Amendment to the Defense Appropriations Bill - Makes it so that women raped overseas while working for foreign contractors have the right to have their case heard in an American court instead of having their case mediated by the company they work for. Only Republican men voted against this, but it passed.

Benefits for Homeless Veterans- Would have expanded benefits to homeless veterans and homeless veterans with children. Republicans blocked this.

Affordable Health Care For America Act- Prevents insurance companies from discriminating against you on the basis of "pre-existing conditions". Requires that insurance companies spend 85 cents of every dollar that you pay on your actual health care. Limits health insurance companies profit margins. Republicans blocked this for months before it finally passed and have vowed to repeal it if they are elected.

Health Care for the 9/11 First Responders who got sick from being at Ground Zero- Would provide billions of dollars in health care to help the 9/11 First Responders who were at Ground Zero on 9/11 and are now sick because of it. Republicans blocked this.

The Jobs Bill- Offsets the payroll tax for 1 year for companies that hire new employees, or people receiving unemployment insurance. Also gives other tax incentives to companies hiring new employees. Republicans attempted to block this.

Wall Street Reform- Puts stricter regulations on the banks, preventing them from becoming "too big to fail". Curbs reckless spending practices that caused the banking crisis. Republicans attempted to block this.

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act- Pumped billions of dollars into state and local Governments to prevent us from sinking into a second Great Depression. Republicans opposed this but now want to take credit for the parts of it that we know are successful.

Oil Spill Liability- Raises the liability on what companies can be made to pay to clean up after an oil spill. Republicans blocked this.

Immigration Reform- Republican suggested comprehensive immigration reform until Obama supported it. Now they're rabidly opposed to it and even voted against their own legislation. Republicans blocked this.

Unemployment extension bill HR-4213- Would provide additional aid to the millions of Americans still on unemployment who are just trying to support themselves and their families. Republicans blocked this bill for 8 weeks before it finally passed. Republicans blocked this for 8 weeks before it finally passed.

Fair Pay Act of 2009- Also called the Lily Ledbetter bill. Requires that women receive equal compensation to men for doing the same work. Republicans attempted to block this.

No permanent military bases in Afghanistan.

Report identifying hybrid or electric propulsion systems and other fuel-saving technologies for incorporation into tactical motor vehicles.

Protection of child custody arrangements for parents who are members of the Armed Forces deployed in support of a contingency operation.

Improvements to Department of Defense domestic violence programs.

Department of Defense recognition of spouses of members of the Armed Forces.

Department of Defense recognition of children of members of the Armed Forces.

Enhancements to the Troops-to-Teachers Program.

Fiscal year 2011 increase in military basic pay.

Improving aural protection for members of the Armed Forces.

Comprehensive policy on neurocognitive assessment by the military health care system.

Authority to make excess nonlethal supplies available for domestic emergency assistance.

That's just the first hit on a Google search...your move, Charlie.

Problem: we're stupid when it comes to money, and have been at least since Nixon. And history proves it.

Solution: blame everything on someone else, and steal blame when possible; a Democratic Congress didn't reinvent the economy, Reagan did (but the massive deficit spending from that time IS the Dems' fault); Clinton didn't balance the budget, Clinton did; Bush didn't tank the economy, the Dem minority did.

Problem: we're still stupid and refuse to compromise, but spending bills start in the House, which we control. people might blame us for this.

Solution: our base doesn't know spending bills originate in the House, so...WHAR BUDGET DEM SENATE? WHAR?

What Republicans fail to realize is that they have effectively abdicated their responsibility to govern and have become a trove of whiny bellyachers with one fuq of a case of butt hurt who spent each day raging about it. They fabricate stories and they inflate even the slightest controversy into this humongous dog and pony show simply to get attention for themselves. What they fail to realize is that outside the bubble world they live in, everyone else is hip to what they're doing...and they don't like it one bit. Why else to you think they're trying like mad to gerrymander their way to winning back power in the next election?

This is the same GOP that was screaming that Obama was being weak on foreign policy by not being involved enough in Libya. So what would they have said if State had simply closed down the consulate in Benghazi and pulled out?

Likewise, if the administration had refused to make ANY comments about the possible cause and timeline for the attack in the immediate aftermath (because they had conflicting reports and actually didn't have a clear picture yet of what/why/how/who) does anyont think the GOP wouldn't be screaming just as loud about lack of information instead of incorrect information?

Because god forbid anyone actually uses google for something besides porn

Oh wow, they found 6.6 billion. Awesome, thanks for the links. Do you have an article where they found the other 2.1 billion? Do you remember the Republican outrage at all that missing money.

Thats like the budget for one day of abortions at Planned Parenthood!

Also any updates on Rumsfeld missing 2.3 trillion?

On Sept. 10, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld declared war. Not on foreign terrorists, "the adversary's closer to home. It's the Pentagon bureaucracy," he said.

"According to some estimates we cannot track $2.3 trillion in transactions," Rumsfeld admitted.
Link

His own article also shows that all we did was transfer the money to the Central Bank of Iraq and then leave it up to them to disperse the money properly. Which the same damn article says that they didn't do in repeated cases.

You being a Republican, from a scale of 1 to Benghazi how much of a scandal was the missing and then found money for you?

Is this a hypothetical? I was arguing YOUR point. Zeb's article was the one that was flaky on his own point.

But, putting myself in the shoes of a Republican, I'd have to say that the Iraq war paid for itself and freed a people that were just begging for freedom, so it was a -543 potatoes on the scandal scale.

The hell with this talk about money being not a scandal.

What is NOT a scandal to a Republican:
www.defenseindustrydaily.com

Let's review.

US citzens (otherwise known as "soldiers") are sent halfway around the world into a known war zone to do a job. In the course of that job, the enemy lobs a mortar shell into their vehicle, killing them. NOT a scandal. It happens dozens more times. STILL not a scandal. One of their buddies biatches to the SecDef on open mic night that they need more armor that can resist mortar shells, and gets back the answer "Well, we go to war with the army we have not the army we want or might have later"-STILL not a scandal. But that complaint is taken to heart, resulting in...removing the remaining soldiers and firing the people who sent them in without a proper hazard analysis? Don't be silly. Resulting in the construction of horrifically expensive sixteen-ton armored personnel carriers. Yeah, that's the stuff.

US citizens (otherwise known as "ambassadors", aka "important people") are sent halfway around the world into a known war zone to do a job. In the course of that job, the enemy lobs a mortar shell into their building, killing them. SCANDAL IMPEACH SCANDAL NEVER MIND FIXING THE PROBLEM JUST IMPEACH NOW

You know, it's hard to say. I do recognize his handle from way back, but he never crossed the threshold of being anything more than just background noise until recently for me. The only members of the GOP brigade I really remember and have any opinion about are a) those that are reasonable enough to have a discussion with and b) those members that are so out there I get some entertainment value out of their mindless ranting. It's only the last few months that I've really been grouping 16.5 in that crowd.

Question: Did Clinton ever admit saying this? I think that would be an incredibly silly comment for any career politician to make. Certainly she'd be aware of the existence of the constitution, don't you think? I would have far more likely expected her to say something like, " We're going to get the people responsible for the the death of your son."

I mean, look at the sentence structure... "We're going to have that person arrested and prosecuted that did the video". Does that sound like something that any secretary of state would ever say to anyone? No. I'm not saying it was malicious or anything like that. Just seems strange to me that a woman who's been in politics as long as Hillary and who was married to the motherfarking president of the United States of America would know that the stupid youtube video is protected by the 1st amendment. That's all.

Add to that the fact that the father of the dead SEAL is clearly anti-Obama (more accurately probably anti-Dem) and that he was very likely deep in grief at the time the meeting took place. Not exactly the state of mind that's suited to accurately recalling what was said to you by the person you likely blame for getting your kid killed in the first place. None of it makes a damn lick of sense.

And you wonder why the media hasn't run with this outside of the GOP echoverse? Firstly, they can't corroborate anything. Secondly, the media probably doesn't want to turn all kinds of attention onto this poor guy and his family over what's essentially nothing. Let the dude and his family grieve for the kid.

Well, that's pretty much the textbook definition of hearsay, but let's put that quote in context with four indisputable facts anyhow:

1) the people responsible for the Benghazi consulate attack stated that they attacked the consulate to protest the video.
2) diplomatic missions in multiple countries were attacked during violent demonstrations to protest that video
3) people in multiple countries died during violent demonstrations to protest that video

And finally,

4) Hillary Clinton has a law degree from Yale. There's no way in hell she said that.

SithLord: Suggestion: Since the Democrats controlled the House during the Reagan administration then it's obvious they tricked President Reagan (Peace Be Upon His Name) into signing this into law and, thus, this is all their fault

This is what Republicans really believe...

/not kidding.

And 30 years from now when we look back and see that Obama never pushed for a budget, the Democrats will look back and say that the Republicans in the House stalled on that issue.

This is what democrats actually believe.

\not kidding.
\\I can play this game too.

Not very well.

Amazing how liberals applaud being lied to.

Spanky_McFarksalot: what about the republican politicians who voted to cut funding for security? are they on administrative leave?

The funding that was still 18% more than 2 years prior?

The funding that the state official in charge of security stated had zero effect on benghazi security decisions?

I can't believe they're still screwing this chicken. I mean, I can, but I just can't believe that real humans would be making such an issue of a non-issue. They're starting to sound positively demented.

Another notable thing about this is, despite the fact that I have repeatedly shown that the Administration told serial lies about the event (and I'll avoid repeating the links lest I be accused of "spam") is the outrage shown to people who don't blindly accept the Government's lies and are personally attacked, repeatedly, as "demented" and the like.

If I was going to recruit pro-authoritarian sycophants, these threads would cut down the interview time to nothing.

Do you think an evil overlord would trust you with that much responsibility? You haven't been able to demonstrate even a cursory ability to look at words or phrases in context nor the ability to use any sort of critical thinking.

Yeah; I have a lot of sympathy for individuals like 33/2 are still worked up about this. I actually kind of feel bad for that guy.

But for the life of me, I can't figure out why the Republican party is still working on it.

Unless... perhaps the republican party itself has become a paranoid schizophrenic with accompanying personality disorders?

Danger Mouse: So now we move on to discrediting the fallen dead's familly?

That takes balls the size of cue balls, eh?

Exactly. Experiencing a personal tragedy renders you immune from scrutiny or criticism on any statement you make. That's why nobody ever tried to discredit Cindy Sheehan, for instance.

/and so would you if she gave you "that" look

The ugly B*tch look?

It's impressive that you hide while you say that. You must be fat.

Oh noes! Someone might accuse you of spamming fark!

And someone might dare suggest that the Pope might not be Protestant. Spamming has no consequences on fark unless you disagree with the moderators, so you're in no danger whatsoever.
