The Snow Dog: Wonder if there's something orbiting it in a tight elliptical orbit--and sloughing off matter to the pulsar on the closest arc of orbit?
Mumblypeg: The scientists identified a pulsar that is able to dramatically change the way in which it shines. In just a few seconds, the star can quiet its radio waves while at the same time it makes its X-ray emissions much brighter.So...pulsars are sentient? Or do they just possess a modicum of autonomy? The article wasn't clear on that. Personally, I welcome our new pulsar overlords.
