Jet Li has better fights in Lethal Weapon 4.

I think my favorite of his was Fist of Legend.

Back on topic, I actually really liked Crouching Tiger, but know that Fark hates what I like. The choice of director for the sequel is retarded though.

Ever seen Last Hero in China? It's cheesy, but the fights are awesome.

Was Fearless the one with foreigners running sleazy martial arts matches? If it's the one I'm thinking of, that was pretty awesome. Got to hand it to Li, he does some bad movies so he can pay for being in good, thoughtful martial arts movies like Hero, Fearless and Fist of Legend. God, Fist of Legend is good...great martial arts stunt work mixed with an actually interesting story about occupation and romance and honor.

I liked CTHD. I simply don't see a point in a sequel to the movie, even though the novel it was based on is one of a series.

Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener: Darth_Lukecash: The flashback sequence nearly killed the movie for me. It's a good thing he did put that in the middle, otherwise it would have killed the momentum early.

First time I saw the movie, I think I dozed once or twice during that scene.

Don't get me wrong, I *liked* the movie, but damn if that scene didn't lull me off to sleep.

I agree on it's awesomeness, but the end of the movie, where the Hero lays it down because he sees the murderous fascist tyrant's point of view kind of pushed it into overt propaganda for me.

I like all those movies. I thought The Promise was good too.

I have to say that I am a big Zatoichi fan, especially the later ones.

And for 70s Japanese gangster stuff, The Yakuza Papers is awesome.

Well, it was no Shanghai Nights Whoriental Academy #6, that's for sure.

I went to see the original in the theatre. In front of me were two drunk rednecks. They got soooooo pissed when they realized they were supposed to read subtitles. They walked out after sucking their teeth and moaning about it for 20 mins.

I was unaware there was such a wuxia hatred on fark... Love CTHD, Hero was a glorfied propoganda movie. I have also enjoyed anything related to the Three Kingdoms Era of China (Think Dynasty Warriors for those who are wondering what I am speaking about)


CT doesn't need a sequel but it would still probably be a fantastic thing to watch if the choreography remains top notch.

I liked the first movie, but I'll admit that it *might* have been a victim of overhype.

That movie was awful. What the hell is with writing the whole dialogue in Jane Austen-esque English and then translating it (badly) into Mandarin? ANd what's with hiring two lead actors who don't speak Mandarin at all? That movie was borderline unintelligible.

Worse, my friend speaks Mandarin (fluently) and SHE turned on the English track because the Mandarin was worse horribly spoken.

I still don't understand why they started with the fourth book. If they did another movie I'd prefer it to be a prequel. Yes, I'm aware they took stuff from the other three books for the Crouching Tiger. I'm looking forward to a sequel, though I hope it's better than the alright first one. My biggest issue with the film was how we never really get to see how bad-ass Chow Yun Fat's character really is, he just comes in at the beginning and is like "Well, I just had some of the most fantastic and exciting adventures EVER, now to set down my amazing sword and never touch it again, nope, NEVER AGAIN." I felt that it was a huge tease.

I could get behind Quentin Tarantino manning the helm, as well. I thought Iron Monkey was a pretty solid movie and his work with Kill Bill type fight sequences could lend a fresh perspective to the Crouching Tiger franchise.

I love those old movies. Super cheesy, but quite entertaining. You should also check out Once Upon a Time in China I and II (I personally thought 2 was better than 1 - the fight scene between Donny Yen and Jet Li was awesome).

It was badly written, badly acted, and Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yoeh's roles should've gone to somebody who speaks Mandarin in the first place.

Also, the movie doesn't make sense.

I was entertained, and do not care one way or another about how badly they spoke mandarin. Within context to me at least it made sense. Bout as much sense as any other wuxia and it was a movie meant to be visually appealing not storyline wise glorified blockbuster fare... still enjoyed it and would watch it again.

Iron Monkey wasn't directed by Tarantino.

He was the producer for the 2001 release. While understandably he didn't make all creative decisions, it still had a bit of his signature on it.

Jarod Cain: Curse of the Golden Flower was worth it, if only to see Chow Yun Fat beat down an annoying kid with a solid gold belt. The whole picture screamed with your standard China enforced "don't screw with the government" propaganda but it was entertaining overall.

Jarod Cain: I should also say, don't expect much of a kung-fu flick. Curse would probably fall more into the epic drama category, though I'm not sure if it quite manages that.

Lethal Weapon 4 was fun, though. Li makes for a great villain.
