Ronny Yu (Freddy vs. Jason, Bride of Chucky) is in talks to direct.

Yeah, that'd be a big step down from Ang Lee.

The first movie wasn't even that good. How does it deserve a sequel?

Well, it was no Shanghai Nights, that's for sure.

I liked the first movie, but I'll admit that it *might* have been a victim of overhype.

That movie was awful. What the hell is with writing the whole dialogue in Jane Austen-esque English and then translating it (badly) into Mandarin? ANd what's with hiring two lead actors who don't speak Mandarin at all? That movie was borderline unintelligible.

He *did* direct that one adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, so you MAY be on to something there.

The flashback sequence nearly killed the movie for me. It's a good thing he did put that in the middle, otherwise it would have killed the momentum early.

But I enjoyed the movie...I thought Hero much better.

Well, since they killed off Chow-Yun Fat's and (allegedly) Ziyi Zhang's character, bringing back a 50 year-old Michelle Yeoh is all that's left.

This would have made sense 10 years ago...not sure I'd buy it today...but damn do I love that movie.  Beautifully filmed and choreographed.

Here's a good essay I found awhile back that explains things from different perspective..which also means a sequel is totally unnecessary.

Oh and the Crouching Tiger thing was farking retarded. Prancing around on branches....God that was lame.

Crouching Ziyi Zhang, Hidden Web Cam.

Uggh, I can watch horrible crap and enjoy it, but Crouching Tiger, was about 3 hours too long.  It was a big budget rehash of a Kung Theater.

It was so bad it is like my own version of "what were you doing when kennedy got shot".

I can remember each detail of theater, the lack of fresh popcorn, and even the refreshing respite from the movie when I had to tank a dump an the cinema.

Just cause it is asian and has a marginally attractive chick in it, does not a good movie make.

Crippled Masters was much better.

Considering that Zhang Ziyi is also currently under investigation for prostitution in China, I doubt she'd be back as well.

Ah, yes.
The movie that made Chinese people believe they could fly.

It was based on a book of which there were a shiatload of books in the story. Knock yourselves out.

First time I saw the movie, I think I dozed once or twice during that scene.

Don't get me wrong, I *liked* the movie, but damn if that scene didn't lull me off to sleep.

Darth_Lukecash: But I enjoyed the movie...I thought Hero much better.

I'll agree there.

Crouching Tiger got the better publicity and everything, but Hero was wall-to-wall awesome.

The Googles tell me it's mostly tabloid gossip. Honestly if she's made 100 million bending over for diplomats why in the hell would she still be in China?

If by "under investigation" you mean "she dated a very rich man" and "a few biatchy gossip sites speculated about it" then yes, she's under investigation for prostitution.

You make it sound like she's Suzy Favor or something.

Meh. CTHD was just the right about of style. Hero went over the top, and though I didn't see it directly, the previews for Curse of the Golden Flower seem to take it to the maximum extreme. (Of course, the latter two is a different director, not Ang Lee.)

If I'm going to watch a movie like that, give me a Stephen Chow film like Kung Fu Hustle. At least it's funny, and not dripping with pretentiousness.

I really liked the first movie, but, then, I used to be a teenage girl. I think the movie truly is great at showing what it feels like to be a teenage girl. I saw the movie with a man who just couldn't get into it because he didn't get the female lead.

I haven't seen Curse of the Golden Flower yet, so I can't comment there, but I love the color schemes and compositions of Hero.

I can be a sucker for visuals, and I guess that's the case there.

Because we've been convinced ANg Lee is awesome. My opinion is that everything e touches is so slooooow and boring.

I haven't seen Life of Pi and sort of want to, but his record of making a film that doesn't put me to sleep is pretty bad.

While I agree that Hero was the better movie, I gotta say I much preferred the fight choreography in Crouching Tiger.

It had a very weak plot, and the flashback both made the movie confusing (at least on first watch) and killed the momentum, but damn, I can watch and rewatch the fight scenes for hours.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a damn fine movie.

This sequel would point towards a travesty.

I am not amused.

That, and it's hard to go wrong with leads like Chow Yun-fat and Michelle Yeoh.

Particularly so with the supposed choice of director.

That, and the movie had a perfect ending. Following it up would only be doing it a disservice.

IMDB has her in 4 movies this year and one next year.

I'd run this scandal by my chinese coworker but he'd probably think i was stupid for even considering the possibility that it might be true.

She whored herself to Bo Xilai? sure.

Curse of the Golden Flower was worth it, if only to see Chow Yun Fat beat down an annoying kid with a solid gold belt. The whole picture screamed with your standard China enforced "don't screw with the government" propaganda but it was entertaining overall.

I should also say, don't expect much of a kung-fu flick. Curse would probably fall more into the epic drama category, though I'm not sure if it quite manages that.

So it'll be the exact same film, except this time it'll be in Thailand, and Chow Yun Fat's character will get a face tattoo?

I loved HERO. The zither fight in the rain and the 'we will do badass CALLIGRAPHY while arrows fall' were my favorite scenes. Probably why I liked the Zither fight in Kung Fu Hustle (the Exalted RPG totally took that fight and ran with it for Dragon Bloods)

Curse of the Golden Flower was too screamy. Wanted to like it but was not a fan. The minute you got a good overview of the family, you knew what was coming.

What I would love to get is a copy of Warriors of Zu. Cheesy and overthetop as hell, but then I'm a Storm Riders fan too.

Yes, I enjoyed the movie, too. I do agree that the sudden flashback was a strange move, and ground the movie to a halt, but, overall, the film remains one of the better ones I've seen. Not great, but certainly not "OH THEY DIDN'T EVEN SPEAK REAL MANDARIN" levels of disgust.

As for Hero, that, too was good, but I was distracted by the visuals: oh, lessee, today's color is BLUE!

I think my favorite of his was Fist of Legend.

Back on topic, I actually really liked Crouching Tiger, but know that Fark hates what I like. The choice of director for the sequel is retarded though.
