This is easy to do if you have an older HP that you can configure via telnet. We'd do stuff similar to this on random printers at work, then sit and wait for the call.

I imagine this trick exists on other printers as well. Nobody *ever* resets the admin password, so access is a no brainer.

lethological_lassie: Monday in Mordor has been relatively painless and productive. I hope the same was true for all you lovely Caturdayers!

And a cat, my dear Smudge (aka Princess Smudgie) who went over the Bridge in 2007. She was a little warrior who ruled over her brothers and sisters with a fast right hook!

Well you had a slightly better day than me. Mine was very productive for a change, but it was not painless. I'm under some tight deadlines and certain people were blocking my efforts. I wasn't in a great mood today, so I just decided to bowl right through them...I'll beg forgiveness later.

vudutek: TMI time:
We have family history of prostate cancer from dad. I started getting checked back in my mid 40's. Just shy of my 50th b'day, got the bad news. Had surgery that July, and have been clear for almost 5 years now.
Say what you will about doctors shoving things in painful places, the alternatives aren't worth it.

Glad you are doing OK.  I've been getting the prostate check since 35, and I've dreaded going to the doc ever since.

When I was in my 20's I lived in China and I had, uh, bleeding that turned out to be the result of eating - I'm not making this up - a piece of wood.  I had eaten at a questionable restaurant in western China and I literally had a stick in my ass (not up it - in it).  I had to find a doctor, and the best I could find was a British doc who was doing charity work 55 kilometers away.  She had some kind of terrible utensil that involved a hollow tube, a flashlight, the world's oldest fiber optic camera cable, and a girl who I think was probably her daughter.

Here are words you never want to hear in that situation, ever:  "The Vaseline is mucking up the image.  Give me a cotton swab and hold this open for a minute."

I see a female doctor for two reasons.
1. If anyone is going to sail the moon river I prefer it be a female.
2. Smaller fingers.

Yeah, I think most of us "agree"  that we would never do anything like that to another person, but it IS fun to talk about.  And, who knows?  Someday all that knowledge may come in handy!  Just sayin'.....

Times like that, it is handy knowing "certain people" that are "skilled" in those areas..

For example...

Knowing someone who did 3 tours as Special forces. Helluva nice guy, but let's just say that having "too much knowledge" can sometimes make them a little volatile...especially when they happen to still have a couple of "pull & go" thermite grenades (nicknamed engine killers)

OR... a really nice big ole biker who had a neighbor that decided to discard their trash in the back of his property. Him and a couple of his "associates" went over to the neighbors house to return the trash and "convinced" the neighbor that it would be in the neighbors best interest to not do that again...the neighbors house went up for sale within a week.

OR...someone who knew how to use "zip" wire and run it from the coil on a car engine to the fuel filler neck

Come to think about it.... Those people were big animal lovers and I shudder to think of what would of happened if any of them saw someone abuse an animal.

tigerose: Sherpa18 How did you know I have been craving pizza lately?
I had to move the jalepeno Havarti cheese away from Eli. He was sniffing like crazy! I do not think his guts would appreciate it!

I think the white boy was just hoping you would mail him the left-over wings that came with the pizza. :o)  And while most of you know that Dragon loves cheese, it's story time!

A week or two ago, I went grocery shopping (at a store that I really try to avoid, due to the horrendous parking situation, but they have fantastic sales) and I was just approaching my car and the woman parked next to me closed her trunk and literally kicked her cart into the back of my car - I was all "what is your problem?" and she started screaming at me as she drove off. Leaving one grocery bag in that undercarriage part of the cart, which I naturally appropriated. Containing one large bag of Cheeze Doodles®. Now I'm not really a snack/chip person, but I did not want them to go to waste, so I opened them and the white boy absolutely lost his mind. I guess that means he is now the poster boy for the quintessential farker.

I need this - something warm and fuzzy and heartwarming. This afternoon, I caught my piece of shiat next door neighbor kicking his cats because they left paw prints on his F-350 Lackofpeener-mobile.

/Called the cops.
//They laughed at me over the phone.
///Might be time to oil the F-350 windshield.

As a black-belt, professional troublemaker, may I recommend a bead of this applied along the
leading edge of the windshield blades. Amazingly impossible to remove.
Almost makes buying a new Lackofpeener-mobile the only practical solution.

Or...if you want to be less destructive and drive him nuts, just pour 1/2 quart of oil under his truck every other day.
We did this to a co-worker after he got his car out of the shop. He took it back to the shop three or four times before he caught us. His mechanic thought is was a great prank...him, not so much.
[i211.photobucket.com image 600x476]

I've heard of all kinds of things to do to cars, but that's funny, expensive, annoying and really doesn't do damage. One of the mild pranks I liked was to get in someones car and turn everything on, the radio volume to full blast, heat blower on high, wipers on.

When I was younger we did more damage. We put valve grinding compound in gas tanks, super glue in door key holes or ignition so the key wouldn't go in. Not an inexpensive repair.

One time we masking taped an car until it was completely covered. Then laughed our butts off watching the guy try to get in his car in the morning, in the pouring rain when he had to go to work.

Dead fish on the motor or even better, cut up and dropped down the defroster. Canned mackerel or sardines smells pretty nasty after a while. Fish under the backseat  in the summertime, best done while someone is at work and the car sits out in the hot sun all day.

Rearranging the spark plug wires could easily ruin someone's day. We did this to a guy who was cheating on his wife and he couldn't move the car before the other woman's husband got home from work. Explain that car stuck in the driveway mister!!

I took all four valve stems out of an ex boyfriends car tires so he was stranded.  That one backfired when he called the girl he was cheating on me with to pick him up and take him home. That's ok, then I sold his 68 Camaro convertible  that he wanted back in the worst way.

Dirty deeds done dirt cheap!!

We still have the fort. It still gets heavy use and I'm not allowed to throw it out. It's holding up well.
On the other hand the friggin' chair that came in it has been repaired 3 times. The arms keep cracking at the base. It's a known problem with this chair and there's no solution from them but to keep sending me the same old crappy parts for the duration of the 5 year warranty.

The last time I called for warranty replacement parts I told them they'd have better luck selling the box and packing it in a chair.

...yet the fort still stands strong.

lilyspad: professional_vampire: Morning, lilyspad! Did you read up on the beginning of Shawshank? How'd you like the rest of it?

I tried to read up on it last night...I'll look at it some more later. Someday I'll watch the whole thing.
Sorry if I pissed anyone off by asking about it......won't happen again.

Caturday is a family thing and we all have questions from time to time.. ask away.. it is part of Caturday.. other threads can be topic specific.. Caturday is not... if we were 'out of line', I am sure that Bathia would have told us...  and you really should watch the whole movie... it,s great.. no titty sprinkles, though ..

LOL... Reminds me of my very first experience with the internets!

In the late 80s, my awesome geniusnerd high school boyfriend (who incidentally now programs for Apple) and I were hanging out after school in the university computer lab where his mom worked.  He showed me this amazing new thing where people could talk to each other and share information and stuff over the computer!  But the only "site" he could remember off by heart to demonstrate this for me was a newsgroup called "alt.hamsters.ducttape" -- or something to that effect....  I do believe a certain actor was mentioned more than once....  Good times....!

Cracker Jack just jumped up on the bed with me; now he's looking at me as if to say, "OK, Mom, put down the phone so we can get some sleep." (He likes to sleep curled up next to my side.) Since I can't resist him on the rare occasions when he wants to cuddle, guess that means I'll see you guys tomorrow. Good night, all.

Yeah, I think most of us "agree" that we would never do anything like that to another person, but it IS fun to talk about.

BTW...
Did you know that you can make a *really* nice slingshot using the a coat hanger with the bottom removed?
It will fold one way. and open the other way.
If you use looped strings of about six newspaper rubberbands on each side,
you can shoot pennies for about a half block?
You didn't know that?

Pennies make a horrendous noise and can leave and admirable dent.
Along with possible glass breakage.
Be careful shooting at anything resembling a windshield.

sherpa18: tigerose: Sherpa18 How did you know I have been craving pizza lately?

Hubby and I are on a road trip - we are in Tuckertown, NJ. Drove 2.5 hours to go to a store (that we haven't found yet). Yes, we're crazy!

Must be a pretty special store!!! Does it involve "marital aids" of any sort???? Just wonderin'. :D

It was a store for "vapers" - people who use e- cigarettes instead of the real things. We got some new e-juices and just had fun hanging out with sime NJ rednecks. Too bad it's so far from home.

I tried that for a while...was hoping to cut down on smoking.  Hated it!  Didn't at all help me to not want a cigarette.  I guess it just wasn't close enough to the real thing.  85.00 not well spent.

I've been using them for over three years. It takes determination and experimentation at first.
The trick is finding the combination that gives you consistency with each drag. You need a good e-cig and the right juice. If you can find what works for you then you can wean easily yourself off of cigarettes (if I could do it anyone can.)

BlueCig and anything you see in a mall kiosk is garbage. In my experience, the more it looks like a real cig the less likely it is to be any good.

It's easiest to get a good one off the web. I currently use an EGO 510 Tornado with a low nicotine sweet tobacco flavor. Perfect hit every time. EIP if you want some help. Trust me, with a little effort up front your lungs and pocket book will thank you.

Yeah, I think most of us "agree"  that we would never do anything like that to another person, but it IS fun to talk about.  And, who knows?  Someday all that knowledge may come in handy!  Just sayin'.....

Hellooooo!

My two cats had their yearly check ups a couple days ago. Both now qualify as 'seniors', 8 years old and 6 months.

Barbossa, long hair black cat, he's at 15 pounds, he had lost two pounds we found out and is healthy for a cat with bad teeth. I'm trying to get my bills paid so I can get them taken care of. He's beginning to have white hairs in his coat, and he sleeps...alot.

TC, is my demon child. He's a former grey Floridian feral (oh, that explains it), weighs at 16 pounds ( he lose a pound since his last visit) and is diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome and we found out last year that he is positive for FIV. But, he acts like a possessed two year old. Though, he have been having a strange hacking/wheezing thing going lately about once or twice a week. The vets want to watch this incase he has kitty asthma. He has been my money drain...he went in some time ago to address his self imposed, licking induced bikini waxing. He was literally naked from the base of his tails down to his kitty balls. We found out he is sensitive to the pinesol I've been using on my floors.

And the couple weeks before that when he ate my two pet mice when he got trapped in their room....it all passed fine... though I was upset at the loss of Mix and Match. They were such sweet girls...oh well. No small critters while TC rules the roost. And trash bags. And bed. And food dishes...a month before that he was at the vets to get six rotted and broken teeth pulled....

I think now you know why I call him a demon. But I love him, and his 'Brother'. Barbie is my rescue from a local shelter, and TC was an adoption from a friend who was moving but couldn't take him. She was working as a vet tech in Florida when he came in about four years old, and the woman who brought him in was warning her not to touch him, that he's a vicious tomcat (that was how he got his name. TC, Tomcat). My friend said she rubbed his ears and he went nuts for loving. The vet said the cat should be put down dued to the injuries he had, that being some deep scratches and a massive abcess on his neck that ran to his ear, however my friend said she'll take the costs and adopt the cat. He did great evidently, and still does fantastic at the vets, though they are always curious about the massive bald patch of skin on his neck and the fuzzy spot in his eye, I figured another scratch from a fight.

I'm still shocked that this feral, a Floridian, is damn near the perfect indoor lap cat. His only fault? Stinky trash and small wriggling mammals. Oh, and don't bother trying to sneak open a can of tuna. That mouthy beast will raise hell until he gets to lick the can clean.

Hmmm...I think I'm babbling now. Well...those are my critters, next week, I'll go into Barbossa and HIS annoying habits!

Our paint computer has all kinds of stuff on it that can be changed, so I switched the "language" to Japanese...I really hope my boss's wife will go over there to mix paint for someone, and be all WTF????? I know she will panic, because she won't know how to change it back. But, I DID tell another person how to fix it, so it won't be too bad. I just like to f*ck with her once in a while..... :D I'll probably hear about it on Monday.

I had a Saab back in the 90s, it had a lcd screen with the radio that also displayed messages. I took it to see a friend in Atlanta when I had only had it a few weeks, and we were driving down Peachtree Street and all of a sudden this alarm sounded and messages in Swedish started flashing on the screen. We pulled over, got out the manual, and about 15 minutes later figured out how to change the setting from Swedish to English. Turns out the windshield washer fluid was low. My husband had changed the settings as a joke. We were both so mad at him, it scared us -- I was 400 miles from home with a new car and just knew something major was wrong. It's funny, now.

My week:
Missed a day of work last week to the pain of 'TMJ'. Turns out it wasn't TMJ after all...I had a zombie tooth and it was harboring bacteria...enough eventually to get down into my jaw and cause MAJOR pain.
How major? I couldn't wait for the dentist to give me the 'numb you up' shot...RELIEF!
Zombie Tooth: apparently the nerve for the tooth died quite some time ago...so the tooth itself didn't hurt. There was just all sorts of 'referred pain' all over the left side of my face...and my ear...salivary gland...tongue...

Dentist cleaned out most of the infection (I chose 'root canal' rather than 'extraction'...kinda shy of teeth on that side of my mouth- don't want to lose any more), put me on an antibiotic...
then decided that I should step up the dose. Did so...and was unable to sleep last night due to ITCHING. Benadryl did not help.

Ruh-roh...last time this happened was because I was having a histamine reaction to a med I had just started.
Called dentist, informed him. He switched antibiotics so hopefully I won't have to resort to the hydroxizine (sp?).
It works...IF you equate 'being totally knocked for about 14 hours...but at least you're not scratching' as 'working'...

Using a combination of my regular pain meds...as well as a witch's brew of tylenol, ibuprofen and naprosyn (Dentist's suggestion).
It does help...just hope my liver is still speaking to me when this is over and done with.

Today:
My nagging finally paid off...ABBEY WENT TO THE VET AND GOT SPAYED!!! YAAAAY!
Talked fast and persuasive, so they included Abbey's son Frisky on the 'get fixed' field trip.
Yeah, I'm picking it up...but one of the vet's assistants runs a no-kill sanctuary (whom I've helped out a bit in the past). They are donating $40 toward these surgeries! At least this little 'good deed' won't take my entire paycheck.

Got them their 1-yr rabies shots as well.
First thought "Damn it, THIS IS NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY!"
...then remembered that there's a new baby in the house. In no time flat he'll be "KITTY! (grab...chomp...yank)" ...wherewith Frisky and Abbey will let him know in no uncertain terms 'That's NOT how we treat the kitty'.

Yeah, I'm paranoid...but we did have a rabies quarantine last year...and we've had WWW of cat fights here lately.
Worst case scenario, and probably won't happen...but it doesn't hurt to make SURE.
Explained to neighbors that they'd need their 3-yr shots next year about this time. Since it relates to the health and safety of the little 'un, they'll probably remember.

I'm sorry about your dad. Unfortunately it *is* major surgery. I think my denial of that fact and just wanting that lump out of me is what got me through it OK. The relief of it not being cancer also helped.

I was in a deep morphine haze when I spoke with the surgeon right after I woke up. She said the lesion was caused by 'BOOP' and while she was in there she fixed two 'BLEBS'. I'm thinking at this point that I'm simply too high to hear her clearly, but it turned out these are real medical terms. I thought I was at Dr. Seuss hospital for a brief moment.

BOOP was the form of pneumonia and BLEBS are common blister like areas.

His episode sounds like a sudden drop in BP. Lemme know if he is not comfortable with the cardiologist - despite my white coat syndrome, and general reluctance about going to see a doctor, my guy is all sorts of awesome. And yes, we are stubborn.

This is easy to do if you have an older HP that you can configure via telnet. We'd do stuff similar to this on random printers at work, then sit and wait for the call.

I imagine this trick exists on other printers as well. Nobody *ever* resets the admin password, so access is a no brainer.

I installed a big Compaq server in a high school library/computer lab and I boogered with the system messages.

And finally, Q_J!!!! WHERE do you come up with with this stuff????? Anti-seize on a windshield??????

It's not anti-sieze. It's an oxidation inhibiting compound. It's used on aluminum wire, especially large
service entrance cables in electrical service panels.

Aluminum will oxidize if it's exposed to air for long periods. On service conductors, that
increases their resistance and causes them to get warm and expand. When the load drops,
the exposed cable contracts and will eventually result in sparks and possibly a fire.

When I worked as an electrician for my dad and uncle right out of high school, all the
guys working on a project do their very best to mess with the other workers. You either get
with the program or you get run over and end up being the victim of a lot of practical jokes.
Survival of the fittest in action.

I am so sorry for what you're going through.

It looks like you live in California and you probably already know about the California Rx Card Link, you get discounts on lots of prescription drugs. It's run by the state for anyone who is a resident and it's free. We have it here and sometimes it's made it possible for me to get meds I couldn't afford otherwise.

I had never heard of that at all. Thanks for the link! I'm definitely going to create myself a card right now. I'll probably  have to pay cash for the doc appointment I have on Tuesday, but any break I can get on meds is definitely going to help. I've never in my life had to apply for any kind of help, so I really am not sure what resources are out there for people. Animals, sure. I can always  find help for a critter. People though, including myself? Not so much good at  that.

I work in home health care so would love to help but I'm afraid I couldn't handle the commute.

Have you talked to someone at the hospital, most hospitals have a patient representative that helps people with this and could be a great source for any available help. Also most hospitals will reduce costs for people without insurance.

When you do see the doctor if you get any really expensive meds ask if there are any comparable less expensive ones, a pharmacist may be some help with this too, but of course you would have to talk to the doctor about any changes. Sometimes doctors use the 'latest and greatest' when there is something that's been around a while and is generic that's a lot cheaper.

Dr. Lucy would help but unfortunately she lost her medical license because she kept hiding from all her patients

Yeah, my brain is still a bit "off" (well, more so than usual), so my Mom, who apparently loves me very much, has been filling out paperwork. She also found out I may be eligible for at least temporary disability through the state, which would give me Medi-Cal, so she's either getting or already has picked up, the papers to apply for that.  I just know that I now have a huge file of stuff she keeps  asking me to sign. Everyone in this house has at least one drawer in Mom's filing cabinet just for their important documents and each one of us has one red folder in  the very front of our drawer with a list of meds and a brief medical history. If  something happens to one of  us, that red  folder is the one you grab as you race out to the hospital. My Mom is so organized it is scary. It's a very good thing, but still scary in a way. How did she get supreme organizational skills while I got the ADHD? 'Tis a mystery.

Dr.  Lucy shouldn't hide from her patients! She can then sneak up on them, sedate them and snuggle up all comfy like without fear of them bothering her one bit.
