My only reason for objecting would be for the same reason I object to terrorist suicide bombers--while I'm happy to be rid of them, in blowing themselves up they tend to cause way too much collateral damage.

2013-01-24 03:22:19 PM
Of course he wouldn't.  They were instrumental in getting him re-elected.

2013-01-24 03:22:54 PM
Of course he would object to their annihilation.  God, I'm going to go pay the coffee maker a visit.

I hear Obama has so renovation plans for the White House. Here is an artist's sketch:

House Speaker John Boehner charged that doing away with the GOP would be one of the Democrat's top second-term priorities.

The GOP seems to be doing a pretty good job of it without any help.

2013-01-24 05:49:41 PM
The GOP seems to be OK with it.

2013-01-24 05:52:14 PM
If the GOP is annihilated he might have to compete with people that aren't pants-wetting cowardly liars with a pathetic failed ideology that the nation wholeheartedly rejects. Why would he want that?

2013-01-24 05:55:44 PM
I think the more correct term would be "self-immolation"

Today, the RAPEublicans made the news in New Mexico.

Where will they make RAPE news tomorrow?

Who WOULDN'T object to losing THAT as a primary opponent?

2013-01-24 06:02:27 PM
It has a nice ring to it- annihilate the GOP. Sort of a final solution to the problem.

The thing is, they are destroying themselves. Well, that and changing demographics.

2013-01-24 06:16:35 PM
Getting harder and harder to tell if satire...

2013-01-24 06:34:04 PM
Might as well destroy the GOP, the Democratic Party has become center right. It might let a center left party to rise.

Well played subby

2013-01-24 06:45:49 PM
I love how the Republicans are throwing a tantrum that Obama had the gall to give an inauguration speech saying he would do those things he ran on and not do everything the Republicans want.

2013-01-24 06:50:33 PM

Darth_Lukecash: Might as well destroy the GOP, the Democratic Party has become center right. It might let a center left party to rise.

Of course. That's why the savvy Democratic politicians want to keep the GOP around; it keeps the true liberals aligned with the Democrats.

Always the victims.

2013-01-24 06:51:29 PM
Anyone else catch the bit where Boehner proudly proclaims that the GOP won't let anything get done, as if it's a good thing?

Classy.

2013-01-24 06:54:30 PM
The question is:

Where would the far-right derpers head if the (not so) GOP no longer held power?

FTFA: "Given what we heard yesterday about the president's vision for his second term, it's pretty clear to me that he knows he can't do any of that as long as the House is controlled by Republicans," Boehner said. "So we're expecting over the next 22 months to be the focus of this administration as they attempt to annihilate the Republican Party. And let me just tell you, I do believe that is their goal-to just shove us into the dustbin of history."

It wouldn't really require "shoving", you seem to be doing everything you can to throw yourself into it as it is.

2013-01-24 06:58:29 PM
Please proceed, Republicans.

/funny headline

2013-01-24 06:58:47 PM
Maybe he's testing the "automatically oppose any position taken by Obama" hypothesis.

2013-01-24 07:00:46 PM
Though, in general, I do kind of agree with Boehner; the primary goal of the next two years should be putting the House back under the control of the Dems.

2013-01-24 07:02:24 PM
Wait, so Boehner is now publicly announcing that he thinks the focus of Obama's second term is to "annihilate the republican party?" Wow, sensationalist paranoid much?

Funny thing is, I used to be a republican when I was young, then changed to a left-leaning independent once I moved away from my far-right family and started thinking for myself, but the republican party has fallen off the derp cliff so hard recently that even a centrist looks like a bleeding-heart liberal in their eyes now; you're either derp-core or you're one of "them." Here's what I really find myself wondering, though: do they really believe all this BS they're spewing, or did their propaganda machine to control their base grow so out of control that now they have to feed the monster to avoid getting eaten (voted out) themselves? I honestly don't know.

2013-01-24 07:03:04 PM
There is no guarantee that if the Republican Party collapses the more extreme elements would shut up and a more moderate party would take it's place. We could instead have an excessively reactionary party rise up.

It probably wouldn't have the numbers the current Republican Party has, but a quarter the numbers for a quarter of the rational thought isn't a good trade by any means. Since as of yet they have yet to fully embrace violence as a means of forwarding their agenda (while there has been a few incidents, the fact is we'd be in a civil war right now if they actually went all the way), a post-Republican reactionary party could very well do so. Even if they are doomed to failure from the start, in a country the size of the US the causalities could be in the hundreds of thousands even if it was limited to a fraction of the country.

Basically sometimes it's better to deal with the devil you know then to leave things to chance.

2013-01-24 07:04:09 PM
I hope he does annihilate it. I would be giddy over it. Annihilate it to the point where they have to rebuild the entire party from scratch and return to the days of sensible Republicans like Eisenhower, TR, and Lincoln.

House Speaker John Boehner charged that doing away with the GOP would be one of the Democrat's top second-term priorities.

Is there a republican alive today who doesn't have serious persecution complex?

An average looking woman looks great next to an ugly woman.
If they got rid of the GOP the Dem's would have to step it up quite a bit to look acceptable.

I am reliably informed by all my Republican friends that what the average American REALLY wants is for all Liberals to get off the planet.

2013-01-24 07:10:01 PM
And nothing of value would be lost.

2013-01-24 07:12:22 PM
I'm sure there's a few Republicans we'd like to keep around. I'll leave it to someone else to start the list. I can't think of any at the moment.

2013-01-24 07:14:24 PM
Given that Obama objects to their destruction, I expect the Republican party to begin shooting itself in the head any minute now.

Whatever coolness the cartoon and the toys had, it was destroyed with the Thundercats and the Sword of Omens. And for us boys, Cheetarah. Remember, He-man begat She-ra. Which just wasn't right at all.

Oh... I don't want them annihilated... I just want them disbanded and replaced by a political party that is more interested in well intentioned governance than petty spite. As it stands I feel like we have one party that is well meaning and one party that is just trying to fark people over. I would also like this new hypothetical party that replaces the Republicans to respect the democratic process and not constantly attempt to circumvent it. I would like them to care about their fellow Americans (all of them), not just the rich ones. Finally, I would like the party that replaces them to recognize that they don't have all the answers and need to work WITH their fellow Americans for the betterment of all of our lives.

I know... it isn't going to happen. The Republicans are irredeemable and their loyal followers are so loyal to the Republican party that they see any fellow American who isn't a Republican as an enemy that needs to be harmed, crushed, destroyed, or otherwise have their lives ruined.

Around here, in the Bay Area, I expect that many people would be happy to have a one-party state (Democratic, of course) with Obama as President-For-Life. I'm not kidding.

The poor persecuted Republican Party. Yeah I do see the Democratic party on the state level do everything possible to disenfranchise Republican voters, legislate away the labor rights of workers who traditionally support Democratic candidates, and force acadamia to re-write the curriculum to tell kids "what" to think rather than "how" to think.

Do these evil "Lieberal Demonrats" have no shame?

Of course he would. Their replacement could actually turn out to be good for the country, and then both The Repubs and Democrats would be screwed.
