The Coen brothers have lost it. Ever since one of them turned into a chick it's been downhill. I mean they'll never make another Dumb and Dumber. Pity.

First I see someone bashing Terminator 2. Now I see someone bashing Barton Fink?

This is insanity and it needs to stop.

cryinoutloud: Speaker2Animals: I never get tired of watching Burn After Reading. Not sure which is best, Malkovich's character or Clooney and Pitt playing against type.

I am going to watch that again. And I'll have to look up a few of these others.

The big problem I had with Burn After Reading is that there are absolutely no characters you can like, or even identify with, in every way -- everyone is equally stupid and/or horrible.  The key to a lot of Coen Bros movies is that you have one character who you can latch on to to take you through the insanity.  There's The Dude in The Big Lebowski, Marge Gunderson in Fargo, Tom Reagan in Millers Crossing, even H.I. in Raising Arizona.  Without that character, the movie can sort of fall apart into just a series of mean-spirited gags, which is kind of what I thought happened to Burn After Reading.

I am going to have to give A Serious Man another shot, though.  I didn't hate it, but I just didn't feel myself connecting to it like I do on other Coen Bros movies.  Of course, I felt the same way about Barton Fink when I first saw it, and it's become one of my favorite Coen Bros movies.

MayoSlather: I'm kinda surprised John Goodman is still alive. I figured he'd have died of a heart attack ten years ago.

He did, this is all just a delusion being written by his wife. Turns out his family didn't win the lottery after all. Quite sad actually.

Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: That would be like making a movie about gangster rap in the early 90's and using MC Hammer as the soundtrack.

I'd watch that.

Fark off. Their "Sounds of Silence" song is still amazing.

Ha ha ha, I loved their TV show! "Mom always liked you best!"

This seems to be more in the Barton Fink, Hudsucker Proxy, O Brother Where Art Thou, Intolerable Cruelty category than the Raising Arizona, Fargo, Big Lebowski, No Country For Old Men category.

I can't believe they'd pick such a cliched and trite representation of folk music for the trailer though. It's like one of those 1980's throwback movies using Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "Relax" instead of Teenage Enema Nurse or Oingo Boingo. "Oh hey, we're making a movie about the 60-'s folk scene in the Village, better use Bob Dylan!"

That would be like making a movie about gangster rap in the early 90's and using MC Hammer as the soundtrack.

I'd like to fix that Mulligan lassie's cable, if you catch my drift.
