"Nuke Sacramento"

What a wonderfully '80s thing to say.

Seattle fans cried when their team was taken from them, and they'll rejoice when Sacramento's is taken from them. It's the way of the NBA.

It's the Kings. Everyone has lost the Kings to everyone else. They're the sports version of Where's George?

Seattle refused to bow to the NBA, had our team taken to a much smaller market and now are in position to get another team for hundreds of millions of dollars less than it would have cost to shut our eyes and swallow like Sacramento is pleading to do.

Your boys rolled into town, lied thru their teeth, held a proverbial gun to the city/state's head, had their bluff called and their lying exposed, took their ball and went home. No matter hwat happens with the Kings, Clay Bennett, David Stern and the weasely oilman will still be persona non grata in Seattle. At least Hansen, Ballmer and the Nordstroms are honest and footing the bill, for the most part, themselves.

No. It'd be one thing if it was a team not supported by the fans, or where the league had to take it over to keep it solvent. But a legal extortion rackett for billionaires is something that is difficult to support. The NFL isn't really much different, but they tend to run their scam a little more responsibly.

Depending how an NHL franchise is acquired I may support that.

It's an odd phenomenon that happens all too often now. Some dipshiat rolls into a thread that related to Seattle somehow and proclaims Seattle fans to be whiners, then when the Seattle fans tell him to f*ck off, he goes SEE THEY'RE WHINERS.

Your right I have never seen any provoked crying from Seattle fans. Except for every single Thunder or Steelers thread on every site I have ever visited. I was rooting for the freaking Chickenhawks just because I thought a Superbowl win would shut you up about the refs from 7 years ago.

My old man was a season-ticket holder for the Kings from their inaugural season up until a stroke 10 years ago made it too difficult for him to go to games. I remember my first Kings game like it was yesterday - I was 7 and dribbled a basketball around the court at daycare all afternoon in anticipation. The Kings were one of the things we really bonded over (some of my best childhood memories, really), and if he was still alive, this would have killed him.

2013-01-24 03:51:37 PM
I really wish Congress would step in and force the leagues to accept bids from Green Bay Packers-style ownership groups. If several thousand people with no financial incentive to move owned a franchise, the Kings might still be in Rochester or Cincinnati, the Sonics would still be in Seattle, and the Jazz might still be in New Orleans, where they allow music.

Well, on the other side of the coin...why bother even conversing with random trolls who probably aren't from OKC to begin with and actually live in Toledo or wherever they're actually located? Most mainstream sportswriters believe Seattle got screwed in regards to the Sonics; most "average, everyday people with an IQ over 70" think Seattle got screwed. Even complete, drooling retards like me, who aren't from the area, think Seattle got royally hosed and deserve to be upset more than the average city who loses a team. The vast majority of any group of at least semi-literate, functioning human beings think Seattle got screwed.

There's no point trying to convince some random dipsh*t on anything about it, really. I'd just ignore them while brandishing the most smug smirk on your face, if I were you.

In response to all of the Thunder white knights...

There are some facts you choose ignore. Sonics fans supported the team even as it was revealed that Bennett and crew had no intention of staying. Even as they were leaving, the Sonics still averaged 13,000 per game. Unlike Hansen's group, which has been upfront about moving the Kings, Bennett lied the entire time and put on a kabuki show of wanting to stay in Seattle (much as the Kings did to Kansas City). He kept moving the goal line because he was a dishonest bastard, pure and simple. That situation was completely different from what is going on right now, with the exception of a franchise move. Seattle was never given a real chance to keep the team because Bennett never intended to let them stay.

Now, let's talk about how crappy the team was and how that was an excuse. Seattle had been a playoff team until Bennett got his mitts on them. He then had Sam Presti strip the team of talent with the exception of Kevin Durant, letting Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis leave or be traded. The team plummeted and Bennett hoped that would foul the water and drive fans away. Didn't really happen. As for the "Seattle fans are a bunch of whiners" rhetoric, do you propose that those fans should have just shrugged their shoulders as a team that had been faithfully supported for over thirty years left? Why? They had every reason to complain and taking them to task for that reveals you to be a colossal douche.

As for the Super Bowl things, people who dislike the Seahawks and/or Seattle are the ones who keep bringing that up. Will Seattle fans always hate the Steelers? Probably. But when your team gets hosed and then has the winning team laugh and snicker about what they got away with, there will be a little animosity. But the majority of 'Hawks fans have moved on. If you don't live in Pacific NW, you don't know the reality. Shut the fark up.

Given the current Kings roster, he's probably pretty safe with this. Hopefully with the Maloofs gone, the Kings (Sonics) can actually improve again.

CADMonkey79: Rwa2play: seumasokelly: Exactly. This is the NBA - no one is safe and never have they been. Except the Knicks.

Pretty much; it's never about the cities themselves, it's about the asshole owners who can't make enough money in town "X". So they look for a new town to fleece, all the while swearing up and down to the fans of town "X" that they'll never move the team (or variations of same).

Memo to Clay Bennett and Sam Presti: Pray for the new Seattle team to never ever meet the Thunder in the playoffs while you're still around. For the sake of your own safety, watch the games back in OKC.

Wooooo, Scary!

Hey, it worked for Art Modell. Don't believe he ever showed up in Cleveland after the move. Oh and 'member how there would've been a near riot at Browns stadium if there was a mention about Modell's death?

Yeah, ask Cleveland fans about the hurt of losing the old Browns and how they would've hung Modell had they found him.

I feel bad that you're losing your Kings to Seattle but...you wanna hang someone, go hang the Maloofs. They're the villains in this piece.

seumasokelly: CADMonkey79: Kell Hound: In response to all of the Thunder white knights...

Thanks for proving my point. Move on man, there ...

And? Go do a search on any thread that mentions the Thunder or the Steelers. Scroll on through, no matter what someone is talking about there will be a dozen of "you" crying without any provocation whatsoever. Also, white knight would indicate someone just taking up for Bennet for no reason. I actually am a real Thunder fan that goes to real games. Sad Trombone.

This is why as a St. Louis Rams fan I'm nervous as hell as long as Los Angeles doesn't have an NFL team.

It was never about not making enough money for Bennett; it was about taking an NBA team to his home state and legitimizing it as a professional sports town. While I can appreciate the motive, I can't really appreciate the fact that he ended up with one of the teams that actually HAD been supported by the area it stayed in. No one liked the Hornets even before Katrina - in fact, if it hadn't been for Katrina, the Hornets might have been the Thunder. No one cares about the Bobcats - that's a college basketball place. No one cared about the Kings even then. There were numerous teams out there to be had; the only one that happened to have the owner quitting on the team (because he was a cheap f*ck) at that exact moment was Seattle's.

I don't think the Sonics would "suck" now without Presti, but certainly, Schultz didn't give a f*ck about properly running a team and they probably don't hire as good a GM as Presti is.

But we do have to consider that yes, they were tanking the Sonics' present at the time in order to build a great foundation for their days in OKC - that's why you get rid of Ray Allen and anyone with any type of contract. You get the young studs and you are going to suck for a little while while you're getting out of town, then boom, you're in a position to succeed in your new digs.

In this case, Sacramento has been in the bottom 4 of the NBA in attendance for the past six years - two years at dead last, two more at 29th (with the Nets, who have since relocated, at 30th in each year), and two at 27th. They're not really well-supported. The owners are being up front about the fact that they want to move the team, rather than pretending that they're going to stay and try to work out a deal while emails leak out showing the opposite, then demanding a ridiculous amount from the local city and trying to blame the city for "not wanting them to stay."

/seriously, Hurricane Katrina cost Seattle its basketball team
