Could it also be that when I watch a political event that could have wide ranging effects on my life, I don't want to hear the commenters talking about the First Lady's dress and haircut?

The first black president ignauguration only happens once.

This is a rerun.

Well, actually they didn't, subby, but don't let that stop you.

why doesn't the media rate youtube or streaming video as well? because really, that's where it's at.

Because in 2009, he had that New President smell. This is a used model with LOTS of mileage.

Seriously.  Lots of women adopt the apple dumpling doll haircut in an attempt to cover up their forehead pimples; why is it such a big deal when Michelle does it?

Yeah...this is like being invited to someone's second wedding. I'm happy for them and everything, but I'm probably not going to make a huge effort to make it.

I blame the internet.

If I want to watch it -I'll watch it on the internet.

If they'd marketed as "Obama's Last Inauguration", they might have gotten more GOP support.

When I was in the fourth grade, we had to watch the Kennedy inauguration on TV.  It was boring, and I got in trouble for yanking Brenda's ponytail.  Haven't watched one since.

Dude..."yank Brenda's ponytail" in your bedroom, with the door closed. PLEASE.

Ain't nobody needs to see that.

It was probably because people are suffering from political burnout on both sides.

I was forced to watch Obama's first inauguration on Syllabus Day when I had better things to do. The teacher had no plan, and the event was scheduled to overlap with the end of class. I thought "ok, this ia s historic moment. Something cool to see. I'll put up with it, and my girlfriend will understand." So we sat around for two hours waiting with nothing to do and an anti-technology teacher watching our every move. Finally, the inauguration came around: lackluster speech by a person I never particularly agreed with. but the thing I remember most was the poem. It was quite possibly the worst poem I've ever heard a professional claim. Terrible.

So yeah, I'm not watching any more inaugurations. Idiotic event.

What kind of a sad, lonely person must subby be to break out the words "Liberal media" in a headline.

2013-01-24 02:36:16 PM
Really? They did?
Gosh, I miss so many of the shenanigans the liberal media pulls. Good thing the far-right-wing-reactionary-fairy-tail media is there to keep me informed.
Or is it?

See, unlike you, the mainstream media folks who treated the inauguration like a fashion show think they're actually taking it seriously.

I watched it on the internet

/4 years ago, I worked at home
//today, i work in an office... no TV here

I refuse to watch our liberal media swear in our nation's most socialist president since FDR.

2013-01-24 03:05:24 PM
i watched the address on the internet, but since i was working monday i didn't watch it live. plus, other than the speech, its pretty freaking pointless to watch.

So is this proof that you can get the Dead to vote, but you can't get them to watch TV?

MSNBC was pretty good about running it without a lot of running commentary. Rachel Maddow has been adding highlights and she stopped her coverage to show the First Couple dancing at the balls.

Abysmal? How do they compare to other second inaugurations?

2013-01-24 05:19:28 PM
I watched hours of inauguration coverage, and the mall was packed. And most of the people who I asked "did you watch the inauguration" said 'yes'.

Then again, the inauguration lies somewhere between watching CSPAN and watching the Thanksgiving Day parade. The superbowl it ain't.

2013-01-24 05:25:49 PM
Was there even a point in watching this one? I watched the last one, but that's only because it was historical. I doubt I missed a damn thing this time.

2013-01-24 06:29:04 PM
My wife and I contemplated going down to see the parade. I'm glad we didn't. It was much nicer to sit in our apartment and have a streaming feed while I played video games.

2013-01-24 07:10:33 PM
Actually could it be that many of us who voted for Obama don't have TVs and don't care to watch the over-commercialized overrated billion dollar Citizens United media?

2013-01-24 10:27:43 PM
2009 was a historical event, this one wasn't as much. No mystery here.

Obama managed to reduce his inauguration ratings and attendance by 50%, the exact same percentage reduction he did to the economy and America' foreign policy. I have to say, the man is consistent.

Who cares about the boring second term inauguration. The excitement is four years over now.

2013-01-24 11:23:07 PM
Or it could be because on a list of "Things to watch on TV", the Presidential Inauguration--ANYONE'S inauguration--no matter how "historical" you hype it to be, is just not anywhere near the top of mine.

A guy standing in the freezing cold and reciting a pledge to be a good President isn't that telegenic, I'm sorry. Probably a lot of people feel the same way. And since it was a holiday, many people took the opportunity to sleep in. You're just not going to get good ratings for everything.

lilbjorn: Abysmal? How do they compare to other second inaugurations?

I don't know in terms of TV ratings, but in terms of attendance, 2013, though well down from 2009, had more people on the Mall than both of W's inaugurations combined.

Hey, they showed up at the polls to vote to keep the money flowing to the takers, so their job is done and now they can go back to smoking dope and biatching about Republicans on Fark.

...Yes. Yes, he reduced American's foreign policy by 50%. We now have 50% less foreign policy. And it's EXACTLY 50% less foreign policy. We quantified foreign policy, measured it, divided it by half, and discarded the lower portion.

Thinking before you say stuff has a liberal bias. Mathematically dividing abstract concepts is what Jesus would have wanted.

We also have 35.7% less liberty, 27.4% less justice, 85.9% less freedom, and 13.6% less Delaware. ...Poor Delaware.

Since the economy can be quantified and measured, beta_plus is clearly informing us about the 50% drop in GDP this country has suffered since 2009. I'm sure he'll provide a link confirming this assertion any minute now.

...Aaaaaany minute now.

I had the inauguration on at home, for once, but I mostly listened while playing WoW.

Probably because we were all at work. The only people around to watch it are pensioners who voted against the guy anyway.
