I'm not sure I understand your comment - that is how people talked about (the coming) computers at that time. Woz (famously) had to ask HP for permission to sell the first Apple because he worked on it while still employed by HP...and they told him "Sure, go ahead" because they could never imagine that a private citizen would ever want a computer.

Looking around it would appear the system for the Apple 1 also had no name. So again, it would have just been called the system, the operating system or system monitor.

Apple has a history of very bland names for mundane parts.

Also, the utterance "freaks like us" is Hollywood Luddite speak for "hur durr here's my impersonation of a computer geek" and it was out of touch two decades ago, let alone in 2013. Maybe in the early '80s that view was relatable to average audiences, not that that excused it then.

If that, even. You had to basically program the Altair 8080's OS every time you started the computer, via a series of mechanical switches on the front of the machine.

I think you may be reading too much into the dialogue. I'll wait until the movie comes out and judge it from there.

This was in 1970 or so, and computers were very much not the purview of the average consumer at the time. This is pre-Commodore 64, pre-Apple II, pre-Sinclair, pre-everything-that-looks-like-a-modern-computer. When Woz and Jobs were at Hewlett-Packard, there was no such thing as a home computer--the first real home computer, the Altair 8800, wasn't released until 1975.

With that said, this scene has no context. It doesn't make sense for them to be discussing operating systems in 1970 because you had Multics, very early UNIX, and... nothing else comes to mind. There just wasn't any such software category at the time.

Ashton Kutcher as Jobs is one thing, but casting Josh Gad as Wozniak is just irresponsible behavior.

Woz has always been the more interesting personality to me, Jobs merely the more marketable.

After reading Jobs biography, I think it's pretty conclusive that he was the worlds biggest asshole. That said, I thought Noah Wyle in Pirates really did a great job.

Noah Wyle sadly is too old to reprise his role from Pirates. He'd never pass for a young Steve Jobs. Kutcher is horrible here. He's basically playing Kelso. I don't know why because he is capable of playing other roles. In Butterfly Effect he wasn't the least bit Kelso so why play Jobs that way? Because it's the 1970s in the movie also?

And why does Woz have a bad home perm? Yeah, kind of mainstream for the time period but I doubt he was really worried about conforming to social norms of the popular crowd. Though Woz at the Regal Beagle would make for a funny episode of Three's Company.

At most he had two years of college (started fall of 96, That 70's Show started fall of 98), but likely less than that as he had modeling stuff before he did acting.

Apparently after some of this movie's shoot he told an assistant, "I'm pretty sure I could run Apple." Not saying he's smart or dumb, but that is a profoundly retarded statement.
