Sheoot. You could buy everything in the store for that much.

$148? Were they all in one dollar bills?

2013-01-24 01:47:00 PM
$148 and it was quick, convenient, and didn't have to dress up or use a real gun as you would going to Walmart or something.

If only the store clerk were armed with fingers, he could have fingered back.

2013-01-24 01:56:19 PM
To obvious solution is to ban fingers.

I'm surprised she only got $148. Dollar general does pretty good business, she must have gotten there early or on a very slow day.

You guys do know that Dollar General and Dollar Tree are two different stores, right. The latter is the place where the majority of items only cost $1, the former offers cheaply made crap at prices rounded to the nearest dollar in order to get people to think they are getting some kind of deal.

2013-01-24 02:05:07 PM
as someone who used to work there, I can tell you that neither one shocks me. People will steal anything that isn't nailed down, and trust me: Dollar General may be a *Cheap* store, but tons of people shop there. They make more than you think.

I've been to Dollar General two or three times here in town. My thought was "I could save 20 minutes by going here and getting a couple things instead of going across town". I ended up paying more, not getting what I wanted, and what I got sucked. And after the first time, I apparently thought it would be better the next time...

What's with all the Dollar General hate? It's a pretty good place to get basic items (socks, box of cereal, soap, plastic household crap,) without having to deal with the crazies at Walmart.
\Although they closed the store here, but they offer even better deals on their website.
\Now only have Family Dollar to go to, which is pretty much the same, but in the 'ghetto'.

Or went to a register that only had a few people or no one there. Unless they're looking to rob the whole place, me thinks she went to an empty register and quietly told them to stuff cash from the register into the bag and out the door she went.

Sounds like an amateur.

Ugh.  So much this.  The "ugh" is for the fact that I can no longer bring my cart outside the store to my car because everyone was stealing them.

I definitely had to check the location on this story. A Dollar General near me have been robbed twice in the last two days. I wonder how long this streak will last.

Did you find their store brand Girl Scout cookie knockoffs? Those are pretty damn good, and might have made up for the rest of your shopping trip suckage.

When my credit card number was compromised in the big hack last year, someone at a Texas Dollar General charged about $1600 in ~$200 increments over a few days. Fortunately I wasn't liable for any of it, but you get the idea - I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out they end each day with hundreds in the till if not more.

lol. I'm not a "Dollar Store snob." I'm poor, so I have to shop wherever the best deals are, and it's been my experience that the Dollar Store is not that place. Dollar Tree is great for bathroom and kitchen products. Family Dollar has a pretty good selection, too, but once they put a Wal-mart in across the street, I pretty much stopped going there.

No, but I'll have to look next time I'm in the area. Thanks for the tip :)

Anytime, honey. We financially-aware people gotta stick together. So far, I've only seen their knockoffs of Thin Mints, Samoas and Tagalogs. They're $1 cheaper than the real thing, but they're available all year 'round. Family Dollar and Dollar Tree don't carry anything similar.

And yeah, why the hell would I spend more than a dollar on friggin' dishwashing liquid? ALL soap has antibacterial properties, and most of it has a pleasant enough smell that I will enjoy for the entire 3 minutes I spend hand washing my dishes. If you're paying more just so it matches your "kitchen decor color scheme" or "my neighbors might think I'm cheap?" Well, that's just kinda snooty.
