Europe's "Articles of Confederation" era?

Eh, it's all just special effects.

Oh... you say not that Cameron? Huh.

And not one mention about that suit coat? Pfft as if.

I suspect that the concern is more related to what Cameron may do to the Ferrari.

Yes! I hereby propose once again the Union of English-Speaking Peoples. We must save the mother country from the hands of the slimy Europeans. I propose a straight trade: Great Britain for Quebec. Add the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore and the UESP will be positioned to dominate the planet's economy for the next two hundred years.

That is quite the tie, by the way.

And in a few years, UESP scientists and doctors will revolutionize cybernetic implants, creating limbs and organs that work twice as better than the peak human versions. This will cause a 'cyborg' race between the UESP and the EU, with the Chinese also entering into the fray, and soon we'll see a shadow war between cyborg spies, saboteurs, and supersoldiers, in a series of proxy conflicts for supremacy.

As someone who just wants to watch while the world burns, please, let him be successful. Let Britain, and only Britain, be excluded from the EU.

Cameron's occasional facial bloating is a side effect of an obvious medication that we're not allowed to mention or talk about.

Personally, as far as cybernetic dystopian futures go, I've always felt that it'll probably end up being a lot more like Ghost in the Shell than anything else, maybe crossed with Minority Report for the fun computer UIs and predictive algorithms instead of precogs.

If we have to pick a horrifying dystopian future... Hmm, Metal Gear is certainly attractive in the number of really absurd ways you can get killed, but Mass Effect has endless war, a prospect of total annihilation by godlike immortal machine-monsters and Cerberus.

Actually, though, I'll go with Snow Crash. Capitalism run amok, personal nukes and digital drug delivery? Sounds like where we're pretty much going.

What for? Britain has become Quebec, circa 1988.

You've got Nigel Farage playing Jacques Parizeau, the upper-class twit of a racist separatist blaming all England's problems on Brussels (playing Ottawa) and on "ethnic" immigrants who refuse to learn the language, and Cameron playing Robert Bourassa, the nominal federalist playing the sovereignty card to try to get Ottawa (played by Brussels) to give the UK the privileges that the pure laine English think they're owed.

This rubbish could easily go on for a generation. The "knife to the throat" will work up to a point, it's true---the rest of Europe will give the UK a few tokens to appease the softer nationalists and get Britannia to put down the knife---but if Britain gets any more opt outs it'll be at Europe's convenience, not Little England's. If there's a referendum at all, the clear answer to anything like a clear question of In or Out? will be In, Of Course!

People grumble about unaccountable Brussels, but they grumble about unaccountable London too. Ask the Irish or the Scots---and the parts of Ireland that were ever going to actually leave are long gone.

In the end nobody will benefit from the Canadian drama coming to British TV news but Farage and the UKIP caucus in Brussels, who can count on keeping their faces in the Daily Mail and their other end kept firmly in their seats in the European Parliament by Little England voters for as long as they care to stay there. I wouldn't be surprised if that was all Nigel Farage wanted in the first place.

Oh, popcorn shares may benefit as well.

So, the Tory PM is sucking up to the ultra-nationalists, in the same way the GOP has been pandering to the Tea Party, for political maneuvering and to keep his job safe? You don't say.

I'm gonna have to sido with either Cyberpunk, or Deus Ex.

I suspect he's not on anywhere near the number of mind-harmonising prescriptions that Gordon Brown was, however.

Both Cameron and Nick Clegg suddenly started facial bloating and then being fine the next day not long after they took office. They are damn hard jobs, so it's not exactly outrageous. At least, unlike Churchill, they aren't necking 2 pints of whiskey every night. That we know. Although Nick Clegg did get his job because his predecessor was.

veale728: Europe's "Articles of Confederation" era?

It's a bad analogy. EU membership isn't just a document you sign. The UK has tens of thousands of pages of law that result from their membership in the EU. Cameron can't undo that. It would take decades. He's just grandstanding.
