I've seen a bunch of screen tests for SNL (this one, Phil Hartman, Jon Lovitz, etc) and you wonder how ANY of them were cast based on them!

It was how well they handled the blow and hookers that was important.

He is putting on a permanent show on Martha's Vinyard.

Forget it, he's rolling.

"John, don't do that again."

Why is that the funniest thing ever?

Well, at least we still have his brother!

That was surprisingly dull. When he licked the tissue and stuck it to his face, I was actually embarrassed for him. I'd say they hired him in spite of the audition, not because of it.

And that comment is the funniest thing about Jim Belushi... ever.

John Belushi is the Kurt Cobain of the comedy world. A mediocre talent who no one would give a shiat about if he were still alive.

a picture from the heyday of Studio 54, that pretty much says it all.  Yes he was exactly THIS cool:

He sure was sniffing a lot.

Was he using coke at that time?

Funny, but it is no Phil hartman's audition tape... Link

I think the difficult bit would be finding a time that he DIDN'T use coke after 1971 or so.

Real Men was good. For some reason he and John Ritter were funny as hell together.

I'm suprised he got the job after that, Jesus, that sucked. Sad that his drug problems are already evident.

So, what is this? Further proof that the people who claim SNL was ever funny are full of shiat?

Chris Stein of Blondie on the right. And either Ric Ocasek was much shorter than I thought, or Yoko Ono was having a really rough night.

SNL didn't care about hookers (no one has time with their schedule), but cocaine was a pre-requisite.

Given that the writers and performers work 60-70-hour weeks during the season, it's amazing they haven't had an OD since Farley.

I didn't LoL at that. or even chuckle the tiniest bit. Not to say he wasn't a funny guy, I'm just not seeing it in that audition tape.

I don't think it was an audition as much as a screen test to see how he would look on TV.

Love the Blues Brothers.

Just dropped in to ask the same question.

Creepiest Belushi short i ever saw was a black & white with John as an old man walking past headstones of all the other SNL Prime Time Players. He is lamenting their passings then tosses off his coat, the reason he lived on being "Because I'm a Dancer!" while he began twirling about the cemetery.

Although I didn't appreciate it at first when I saw it in the theater, I have grown to love it. Just like 1941. Now "Continental Divide" however, not so much. He wasn't bad in it and I guess it wasn't a bad movie really, but I just couldn't ever get into it.

Yeah, I had to look.  Only because I needed to be reminded of how little talent he had.  I guess nostalgia has its place...better shown here than on the relentlessly redundant reruns aired on Cable T.V. and Hulu.   At least on Fark I don't get all the obnoxious Pop-ups.
