So this isn't exactly true.


Also cats can often live 20 years or more while large breeds of dogs usually don't make it past 10 years of age.

What I heard is a better correlation is the frequency of reproduction. Animals that reproduce quickly tend to have evolved to have shorter lifespans than ones that reproduce at slower paces.
