1/3 of adults have better drugs.

Does passing out count as relaxing?

"Employers should play their part and not actively promote an after-work drinking culture which leads into drinking more alcohol at home."

That's why I went into the music business, then into advertising. To perpetuate the AT work drinking culture.

Wait until they discover Drevii Curtius, which can combine work with drunk.

It's only "after work" drinking if you start after work. I start BEFORE work.

I was going to say the other 1/3 work during the evening. I need a 9-5:30 or an 8-4:30 job.

2013-01-24 02:42:39 AM
Relax?
Well that would depend on your definition of relaxation.

I'd say only about 5% of those 2/3rds turn to drinking to "relax"

The other 95% are drinking to forget the horrors that are their inescapable realities.

Funny. I was just discussing this with a relative today. Needed to send a "congrats" gift to someone and asked what they liked to drink. Awkward silence followed by "booze is NOT an appropriate gift for the office" admonishment.

I'm in the entertainment biz. We have a small bar set up in one corner of the office. Wine, Scotch and champagne are the standard gifts exchanged for congrats and thank yous. There has been open drinking and somewhat open drugs in every [type of business redacted for privacy] that I've ever worked in.

I'm comfortable with that corporate culture of recreational self-medication.

I dunno if I do it to relax... but I brewed a shiatload of apple wine, and I need to drink it before it goes bad...

After drinking 8-9 drinks this evening just to calm my back and body pain out... which I don't need to usually- since I usually have some _______.
The blank is only an herb.
The pain comes back around 2 days without...

fark me, and fibromyalgia.
And fark you weekday alcohol.

If you can get by without habitually ingesting any thing, you are that much more of a man/woman in my book. It takes a pair of strong balls/ovaries to maintain sobriety after getting into a chemical dependence. Im jealous of all the people who can just go happily about their lives day in and day out without ever thinking about getting drunk/high. As a former drunk/junkie I cant remember a single day in years where I havent had the urge to soften the edges a bit.

/farking anxiety sucks

2/3rds drink to relax? That's like half.

2013-01-24 03:26:21 AM
I would estimate it to be a little closer to a fifth.

Yes, but when you need to stop drinking for a while (long story), and pot isn't an option, life just sucks...

Besides, commenting in the politics tab will drive anyone to a bottle..

"Employers should play their part and not actively promote an after-work drinking culture which leads into drinking more alcohol at home."

That's going to hurt law firms. The after-work drinking culture starts your first week in law school and only gets more pronounced from there. Besides, all your best deal-making goes on in the bar after work, everyone knows that.

2013-01-24 03:50:22 AM
I've had to replace drinking with insomnia because I'd piss my bed after drinking enough alcohol to feel buzzed.

2013-01-24 04:05:56 AM
And in other news,1/3 of adults just get drunk in the morning.

Hear, Hear...

The older I get the more I prefer smoking a bowl at the end of the end over drinking.

Don't get me wrong, I like a few whiskeys when I'm watching hockey, particularly on the weekends, but weed is much easier on the body and being high is infinitely more enjoyable than being drunk.

2013-01-24 07:12:21 AM
The other 1/3 must not have children.

2013-01-24 07:21:44 AM
Well duh, 1/2 of the 2/3 that drink are drinking double to make up for the 1/3 that doesn't drink. See, in life, everyone gets an equal share of the booze. If 1/3 refuse their allotment, then it becomes available for those who want more. That means 2/3 of the population get to split 1/3 of the booze amongst themselves. But only 1/3 (1/2 of 2/3) of the drinking population wants more, so no allocation becomes necessary. Karma just makes it all work out beautifully. It is like double-stuff Oreos. (Not the new kind, the old kind with the really good filling.) In a regular Oreo the filling to cookie ratio is 1:2. In a double-stuff Oreo the ratio is 1:1. So if you extend the analogy, instead of having a package of regular Oreos that 1/3 have no filling, 1/3 have regular filling, and 1/3 have double-stuff, you have a package of double stuff with 1/3 having regular filling, 1/3 having double stuff, and 1/3 having double plus 1/3 stuff.

If you managed to follow that and it makes sense to you (it really shouldn't), you may have a drinking problem. It is 7am for crying out loud.

i wish the effects of marijuana only lasted less than an hour, so you could smoke it everyday.
but unfortunately they seem to last 20-30 DAYS in most people.

i don't drink alcohol or do drugs and i never have. i've never been interested in it at all, i can't imagine the thought of taking something that will change my behavior or alter my perceptions. i like my behavior and my perceptions just fine. if i want to relax, i'll just listen to some heavy metal. i don't even like taking actual medicine.

a former fatty once told me that he still eats cake, albeit in smaller servings. Otherwise, he went from being controlled by the cake when he was fat to being controlled by the cake when he was skinny.

Will you be my designated driver?

I only drink after work, some evenings, because I don't want to go to some skeevy kid to buy cannabis anymore. I brew beer to give away and enjoy in small doses and I would love to add growing my own plants to that hobby.

They drink alone.
With nobody else.
You know when they drink alone
They prefer to be by themselves

the sample size is off. Most of the people who drink/ do drugs after work were probably to drunk/ high to care about being in a survey survey or they were passed out and unavailable for comment.
