I thought they were created by Thetans and had to be exorcised by writing a big cheque to the Church of Scientology.

I worked with Dr. Dawkins. So I am really getting a kick out of most of these replies. Some of you guys are very good at making it sound like you know what you are talking about. But trust me.... You don't. I think you just want to make yourself sound smart, when in reality you dont know what you are talking about. This is how bad info gets passed around. If you dont know about the topic....Dont make yourself sound like you do. Cuz some Farkers belive anything they hear.

So Dawkins is the godfather of memes because he thought them up, but Dawkins says god(s) don't exist, so he's the non-existent father of memes. But cogito ergo sum, therefore non-existent things can't think, so divide by zero and the universe no longer exists. Thanks Dawkins, I think.

You may not like Prof.Dawkins (usually because of his views on religion), but you should include 'The Selfish Gene' on your list of books to read as part of the essential kit for an educated person. it is really that important and anyway damned interesting.

2013-01-24 02:32:37 AM
Bah. Genes and memes don't "want" to spread. It's just that the ones better at self perpetuating... self perpetuate better. So we observe only those.

If Richard Dawkins plops his fat ass down on your toilet, you better get the plunger ready.

He BEEFS.

He'll drop 5 or 6 forearm-sized logs in there with no flushes in between. Rumor has it that when he was writing "The God Delusion" he used to shiat in the shower and heel it down the drain.

Err oops, forgot to mention the others:
SA, GameFAQs, online games (real games), and video game and/or anime message boards in general.
I know I'm forgetting a few, but I'm tired.

Basically, places where males between 12 and 40 that don't fit into with regular society congregate will be a fountain of creativity.  The less identification the users have, the more likely good content will be created.

you seem to think people who frequent those sites ONLY frequent those sites.

It's like way back when, where SA/Fark would claim they actually created some meme and SA/Fark users stole it. Ignoring the fact that there is a lot of cross over between users.

Technically memes are created everywhere. There are memes between coworkers, friends, and family members.

Now, if we're talking about Internet Image Memes(tm), those tend to come from places like God-is-a-Taco mentioned. From there they go through a process of becoming more mainstream. The harsher, more racist/sexist, and nerd-referencing ones get pruned out, and the meme is generally streamlined for easier digestion and replication. Then you see a bastardized version of it 10 months later on your Mom's Facebook page.

He is a nice guy. His wheelchair was always kept clean and he would have some fun with the laptop speech thing. It was a sad thing to happen to such a young man, but that is the risk of horse back riding.

Of course not. I mentioned video games and anime and young males; no government agency or archival service scours the internet more than them.

It's like way back when, where SA/Fark would claim they actually created some meme and SA/Fark users stole it. Ignoring the fact that there is a lot of cross over between users.

Yeah true, but one site definitely fosters a different culture and community from the other.
Especially once Fark added TF.
