HELENA, Mont. (AP) - A man who apparently summoned the courage to rob a Montana pizza restaurant changed his mind as the clerk started to hand him money, broke down crying and ended up leaving with a pizza to feed his hungry family.

Helena Police Chief Troy McGee says just after midnight Monday, a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a bandanna on his face entered a Papa John's restaurant and handed the clerk a note demanding money.

The cashier started to comply, but then the man started crying and said he was just trying to provide for his family.

The clerk offered to make a pizza and some chicken wings. The man waited while the food was cooked, then left on foot.

"He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at him."

I can't and won't condemn this man.

Back in MY day, we didn't need no fancy video games to go on killing sprees. We had heavy metal and backward masking, and we LIKED it!

The guy is obviously a good guy at heart. Sure, he didn't have the best idea, but good on him for not going through with it.

That clerk made my day :3

The clerk still reported the robbery and the police are still looking for the man. Just instead of him getting the register he got a pizza and some wings.

Okay, CSB, human interest and all. No actual robbery ... How did it end up in the moose news media? Did manager need a police report to make an insurance claim?

Yeah that was my thought too. It's possible the way it went down, rather than the clerk offering the pizza as a nice gesture the clerk offered the pizza to dissuade the robber from stealing the cash. I really want it to be a heartwarming story, but the cynical side of me is winning out on this one. And like someone else pointed out, either he or the manager did end up calling the cops.

So, considering this robbery took place after midnight on Monday, two nights later would be TONIGHT.

Which means the robbery took place at say 12:01 AM Monday. So wouldn't that make the next night Monday night and two nights later would be Tuesday night?

Oh god... I probably would have started crying too. Good for the employees, I think they did the right thing. Doesn't sound like the police are too gung-ho to find him. I hope someone does find him though, and try to put him in touch with the agencies he needs to in order to get whatever state assistance is out there.

We should all feel sorry for this man who made poor life decisions. As a society, it is our duty to help those among us who were too stupid or too lazy to make something out of their lives.

How can you all sit there warm and full while this man and his hungry family are out there? How dare you have things that you worked for, while he has nothing? It's not his fault that he is dumb and/or lazy, its all of our problem.. let's get together and send him some money and pizza.

Ive though about this and yes, if there was absolutely no other way, I would resort to crime to feed my children. That probably makes me a bad person.

Not IMHO. Morality and legality are distinct and individual concepts. You can certainly commit moral or "good" acts that are illegal - and vice versa.

So the devil comes down to the details. There's committing crime to feed your family and then there's committing crime to feed your family. Steal? Might be ok. I'd certainly rather a guy steal a loaf of bread from me then have his family starve. Shoot a guy in the face while stealing? Definitely not ok.

That book is in my top 10.

Always wished they'd make a miniseries out of it.
