Richelieu: FTFA: Initially, Trey Parker and Matt Stone - creators of "South Park" and "The Book of Mormon" - were involved, but they dropped out.

Says everything I need to know. I may one day watch this just to see how far down a movie has to dig to be below their standards.

granted they might have dropped out due to how busy they were. I think this film was in the heavy production/writing phases while the book of mormon was gearing up and they still have SP.

after seeing many commercials and trailers for this, my mind kept wandering to The Underground Comedy Movie (1999).

made by Vince Offer (of Slap-Chop/ ShamWow! fame).

I remember seeing the commercials for that back at the turn of the century and wondering what kinds of favors some of those 'stars' owed him to appear in that.

but yeah, I'll probably go and see it with the same mindset as when watching Kentucky Fried Movie or Hollywood Shuffle.

Farrelly says that when he approached George Clooney about playing himself in a sketch (the gag: George Clooney is bad at picking up women)

That actually sounds like a premise with potential. :/

"Movie 43" features Anna Faris as a young woman asking her boyfriend "Will you poop on me?"

Disgusting. Nothing would make me want to see this movie.

-John Hodgman on Justin Long.

I'm saving this for the next Mac/PC Flame thread where someone goes on about how awesome Hodgman is, and how horrible Long is.

That someone clearly never saw the DVD extras of Zach and Miri. Long's outtakes and deleted scenes from the Reunion conversation are nothing short of amazing.

Ro_thunder: For everyone biatching about the trailer - Netflix, rent, stream, find Kentucky Fried Movie. It's an homage to that.

And yes, I saw KFM as a kid. My parents weren't nearly as uptight as I am now (no, my kids won't be watching this), and thought it was hilarious!

KFM and Amazon Women were/are great movies if for no other reason than they were a totally new concept that had great comedy writing and execution.

This flick....eh.....probably not. At best one or two bits will be good and another few will be notable for getting people to say things they never would have.

So this is going to be like the Onion movie? ahhh that clears it up.

2013-01-23 04:16:27 PM
Huh. Judging by the trailers I've seen on TV, I thought it was basically a Scary Movie-style, probably made up of a bunch of left-over bits that got cut out of all those other movies. But if it's going to be a modern day Amazon Women on the Moon or Kentucky Fried Movie, I'm actually halfway interested.

according to the TFA, pretty much all the a-list are personal friends. jackman signed on first then they used his name to dupe winslet, and so on.

thecpt: granted they might have dropped out due to how busy they were. I think this film was in the heavy production/writing phases while the book of mormon was gearing up and they still have SP.

yeah, it sounds like a timing issue. TFA said the first scene was shot 4 years ago. gear waited a year after agreeing to do a scene then had them move it from LA to NY in an attempt to get out of it. the producer/director said they waited on everyone that tried to pull out.

the scene with hallie and steve merchant was great, blowing out the candles at a birthday party for the blind. wtf!

True Romance is so heavy with stars it's insane and it's one of the best movies I've ever seen, except that Tony Scott made QT change the end.

Tarantino sold the script so he could do Reservoir Dogs. I don't think Tarantino had much say in the movie at that point.

That is the exact opposite to my reaction. I've had this movie on my list since last summerand was surprised to see a few trailers for it just showing up now. I figured it was the DVD release, but no, it's just coming out in theaters.

I'm wicked intrigued now.

I'm going to have some hopes for this because I haven't seen a good KFM type film in decades.

Personally, I don't think today's film audience will bite on it.
Also, don't think today's celebrities have the ability to laugh at themselves.

2013-01-23 07:40:49 PM
Yeah, it's gonna suck. Not one person is promoting the movie and the ads are everywhere, Bucky Larson had that same deal.

I might have to see it just to see if it's bad.

2013-01-23 07:45:25 PM
The fact that none of the 3 wide releases this weekend have anything on Rotten Tomatoes yet means they all probably will get raped by critics, making this officially the worst weekend of the year to release movies?

2013-01-23 07:55:43 PM

mongbiohazard: Actually, the term you were looking for is "marital aids". So you actually did invent the term you used. And unintentional hilarity is still hilarity.

I politely disagree. "Marital aid" is often used in print, but this implies a puritanical view that you're only having sex with a spouse. The term has started to shift to "sex aid" to more accurately (and inclusively) reflect the category's usage. A quick google search shows is in wide use, especially in the UK (particularly among online chemists).

How dare he soil the good name of pot smokers. Even we have standards.

I'm looking rather forward to seeing this, actually.
