No Chris Sarandon for that film either.

And there are very strong arguments for Robert Deniro's character in Stardust being gay, as well.

Pacino in Cruising?

2013-01-23 12:53:39 PM
I have to question #40...I don't remember Benedict Cumberbatch as gay in "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" but I do remember Colin Firth stating he had male lover he wanted to have some money sent to in the same movie.

I_Am_Weasel: No Pacino in Dog Day Afternoon?

You suck, Buzzfeed.

Could call.  The sex change for John Cazale's character was the catalyst for the robbery...seems like a rather large omission.

Damn Christina Ricci and Charlize Theron as lovers could have been so hot if they didn't ugly up Charlize.

Those are all real movies. Perhaps I jumped to conclusions, but I thought 'gay for pay' referred to actors that at some point did gay pr0n. I think Hugh Jackman is one right...?

John Cazale's character was helping Sonny (Pacino) with the robbery, but it was Sonny's boyfriend who was getting the sex change.

Marlon Brando? I thought he was gay. I seem to remember seeing a picture of him in Rolling Stone years ago with a dick in his mouth. NTTIAWWT

43 doesn't count.

Also - No Dog Day Afternoon?

15. Matt Damon, "The Talented Mr. Ripley"
Damon stars as an identity theft who has deep obsessions with his male counterparts.

Well alrighty then.

I wouldn't call Hugh Grant "gay" but cheating on Elizabeth Hurley with a skanky hooker ain't exactly right in the head.

What about Tommy Lee Jones and Joe Pesci in JFK? No one's going to queer either of them out to their face. Not if TLJ has a ray gun and Pesci has a baseball bat.

A big shiny THIS.

An actor playing a gay character isn't Gay for Pay anymore than an actor playing a fairy character is Fae for Pay.

Perhaps that is why "gay for pay" is in "quotation marks" "in the headline."

There's a scene of Benedict kicking a live-in (male) lover out of his apartment. His character wasn't expressly gay in the original novel. Colin Firth's character is portrayed as more or less omnisexual- I also picked up a vibe between him and Mark Strong's character. Open to interpretation.

I just watched that last month; there was a scene where Benedict's character is basically told "You're in too deep, kid. So if there's anyone you need to protect, get them out of your life now, for their sake" (but in fewer words, because that's how that film rolled). Then there's a silent scene where he goes home to his 'roommate', they have a 'disagreement', and he leaves.

On the other hand, I don't remember this bit about Colin Firth's character having money sent. I think he was sending money to the guy who fell in love with the foreign spy's wife (also a spy) to keep him quiet/alive.

/Goddamn that was a complicated film
//During viewing, anyway. It got easier as people were outed/killed.

Well he's British so they might have been confused.

Stupid list is stupid. It's called acting. What's next? A list of people who aren't really superheroes playing superheroes?

Good thing they included a voice acting entry though! Would have hated to miss that.

thecpt: I thought Mara was just bi in that movie. She wanted men in the end.

Pretty much. She couldn't trust men, so she chased women. The reason behind her eventually having sex with Craig's character is because she finally found a male she could trust and open up to.

Every example who was the counterpart to the same film should have just been added to the first example. Might have left room for more entries (giggity)

I didn't get that it was Guillam's lover out of that scene..guess I'll have to watch it again.

SPOILER ALERT!

As for Haydon (Colin Firth), I definitely picked up the vibe between him and Prideaux.  I think that was part of the reason Prideaux was so hurt by Haydon's betrayal (also why Haydon fought to get him back).  The look they gave each other at the party kinda told me they had something going beyond being good friends.

But yes, open to interpretation.

Dammit, now I had to pull up the movie on my media server.  Here's the exchange between Haydon and Smiley:
Haydon: I was rather hoping you might handle a little light housekeeping for me
Smiley: If I can
Haydon: There's a girl, give her some money would you.  Give her a good cover story.  If it helps, tell her I love her.  It's all there.
Haydon: And there's a boy too, slip him a few quid to shut him up.

I rewatched the scene that starts with this:
Smiley:  After today Peter, you have to assume they're watching you.  If there's anything you need tidied up, now's the time.

Initially, I thought the guy was a bit old to be his lover, but after looking at the heartbreak on Guillam's face, yeah...it's pretty clear now.

Speaking of, and reading TFA, I wondered if anyone else was faintly offended by Felicity Huffman playing a trans-woman.

The US version of Queer as Folk is many things.  Littered with bad actors.  Horrible story lines.  Strained unbelievable drama.

But it isn't a movie.

/and unlike the US version - those that started in the UK version have gone on to actually have a career in acting

What about "going straight for pay?"

Our man and hero NPH tops that list.

who else?

Pacino in Cruising?

Or, you know, the totally farking epic Dog Day Afternoon...

But seriously... Unless you actually have a dick in your ass, you have not gone "gay for pay". John Holmes? "Gay for pay". Peter North? Ditto. Patrick Stewart? Haha... no.
