And BBC America is showing one classic Doctor serial per month, starting with the First Doctor's "The Aztecs" in late-January.

/finally going to show these NuWhooligans what a real Doctor looks like!
//I'm betting that by some strange coincidence, they're airing whatever is coming out on DVD in special edition close to airdate.

And remember, season 8 will most likely be starting in late October or November.

There's no way they're going to miss airing a new Doctor Who episode at 5.15 on November 23, especially since November 23 is a Saturday this year.

We will see, but the whole "movie poster scripts" thing has been almost a complete failure so far. It would be nice to have a story arc, and to not have it be the "most important girl in the universe" thing ... again..

I am exhuberant with delight that DW has finally gotten a date! Now if we could just do something about his fans....

And then you'll have the usual bunch whining about how the large story arcs suck and never get solved and how is better to have self-contained episodes. Personally, I love large story arcs, but also enjoyed the first half of this series.

Personally, I don't mind the "most important girl in the universe" approach to the stories as long as the said girl is an interesting characters.

It's all a matter of personal opinion, but I do liked Amy Pond as character and thought that it was just inconsistently written post series 5, and also thing that Oswin/Clara has potential to be an interesting character. I'm certainly curious about what's the deal with her...

I don't even mind the occasional two-parter, but Moffat has decided that his audience likes big explosions and things that look pretty. Unfortunately, as a result, most of the scripts have been less than interesting, with Moffat basically saying: "timey wimey, just trust us and don't think about it too much." Even DWM, which is usually a very pro-Moffat publication, is starting to wonder about this.

And I have to say there's only so many times in the past decade that we can go to the "most important girl" stuff again. Rose, Donna, Amy, and now Clara? Goodness, it's as if they've completely forgotten they have 50 years of backhistory to draw from.

Boring, old, plagued by wooden acting?

I found Donna Noble to be less "most important" than the rest of 'em, at least until the very final episodes of season 4.

I'd argue Martha was more "most important" than Donna Noble, with the added drawback of pining for spiny timelord cock every 6.3 seconds.

/Hope Moffatt and Smith go off into the sunset after the 50th year, leaving us with a new producer and a new Doctor. Doctors and showrunners shouldn't hang around more than 4 seasons or so.

They don't act with their teeth, and they don't get upstaged by the latest boring 20-something Earth tart they pick up.

I'm actually really starting to feel the same way with regards to most of what you said. I love it when they have the set up of having episodes stand-alone, but then have a long story arc that alludes to clues from previous episodes. It keeps things outside the show entertaining I think. I don't know about the Clara/Oswin character yet - I need a good explanation of how she was in two completely different time periods, using different names in each and died both times. I suppose I could believe Clara is her in early years, Oswin is her after having travelled with The Doctor, but that idea doesn't really work out in my head. I certainly want more than "Wibbly Wobbly, Timey Wimey". That is not an explanation and when Tennant first said it, no one thought it was. Now it's a default explanation and it's really taking away from DW for me.

I'm going to guess you never saw episodes with Troughton, Baker, or Davison in them.

There are classic Who's on Amazon Prime too, in addition to the 1st 6 series of new Who. I saw episode 1 of the Aztecs last week.

It looks like there is 1 episode arc per season available.

Yeah, but I love sticking it to the "NUWHO IS BEST OF ALL OLD = WOODEN ACTING AND BAD SETS" crowd.

/Jury is still out on Smith, though. I'll have my mind made up on how good he is after the back half of season 7.

Yeah- I think we're going to have one or two of those fun, ridiculously twisted up episodes to explain that one. You'll get your explanation, and odds are it'll tie into some cool things, it won't be anything nearly as boring as pre-doctor and post-doctor.

Well, I can (and have) watch Highlander 2 on Netflix. Not so much the other two.
