$609,000
Hilltop estate of 130 acres in Bedford includes the High Winds mansion built by Reader's Digest founder DeWitt Wallace. It was in the news in the 1990s during a dispute over Peltz's helicopter pads, used by him to commute to Manhattan.

This poor man! Why have the republicans abandon him? He clearly needs a tax break!

You can in IL too. Any time we've tried the response was basically "Fark you, pay me".

Like most things, your odds of success are directly proportional to the amount of money you spend hiring a professional tax abater.

guess it depends on how the assessment is done.

I paid to have an apprasial done and it came in way lower than the town was saying my house was worth, had to file a small claim action and then the assessor decided that she would settle.

With the dump housing prices have taken it should be on evey homeowners list, at least look into it.

If they really want to create a buzz, publish a map showing the name and addresses of all the women who have had an abortion. Then of course duck and run from the shiat storm that, that will generate.

Obviously the folks that run this newspaper have an issue with guns and people of wealth. Why? I can not devine the hearts of men or women for that matter. So why do they go out of their way to release publicly accessible information on their neighbors? I suspect that someone at the heart of this newspaper would be at home in the middle-ages as what would be called a busybody. Running about sticking their noses into other peoples business for no apparent reason than to do it and to stir up trouble. So what to do? OK they want to act all middle-ages then spin up some mob violence and burn the place to the ground. Just kidding. I would never incite violence. But maybe the folks at the newspaper in question should report on the news instead of trying to be the news. Just a thought. If that doesn't work. Well there is always plan B.

Sure, why not, since medical privacy is not anything that matters. And then we can publish the names of all the men who have prescriptions for boner pills, too.

Frogfoot: But maybe the folks at the newspaper in question should report on the news instead of trying to be the news.

They tried that, but it didn't work out. I'm serious; they're a local newspaper that doesn't cover local news, fires newsroom staff first, and is wondering why readership and quality is falling.

Technically you are supposed to be able to. But last time I tried, it was a big FARK YOU. When I first bought my house and had the entire thing gutted when appraised yet still paid full value for it. NICE.

Get an apprasial done, for you for tax purposes, not for a bank loan (the can vary wildly, my assessment was 'bout than 80k less than the banks (I just re-fi'd as well)). In NY they are licensed professionals (my town assessor isn't). Then if you have to, file for court review..statements from licensed professionals hold up well in court, that is why my assessor finally settled.

I'm going back next year too.

Ow! That was my feelings!: At this point, I'm thinking they are in cahoots with a burglary ring.

Did you just stop trying? Because usually, if they deny it, you can take them to court if you think you have a good enough case.

I'm not really a fan of a "journalist" that publishes the home address of a notable recluse.

I hope he starts taking the Hunter Thompson route, greeting trespassers on his property with a shotgun and making them do yard work all day.

It occurred to me while reading this headline earlier today that they publish lists of child molesters and sex offenders living in your neighborhood so that you can prepare to protect yourself and your family accordingly, so why wouldn't they publish a list of people with arsenals the size of a Columbian drug lord's?

You have a right to be safe from dicks but not from a gun that can fire 200 rounds a minute? It makes no farking sense except to a guy with enough cognitive dissonnance in his head to qualify for extra SIN cards.

Manufacturers should be required to put a registration number on every firearm sold ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD and sellers should register the name, address and take a photograph of every person who buys a weapon, along with the particulars of the weapon and any modifications subsequently made to it, or ammo sold for it. These photos should be posted publically (on websites) so that everybody knows where all the child molestors, rapists and shooters are located.

You have as much right to know who is likely to shoot you or provide a gun to somebody who will shoot you as you have to know who molests little children.

You should know exactly how many shots your neighbor has to get you with should you accidently open the wrong door when coming home in the dark.

Dr. Goldshnoz: hey guys that last list we put out ONLY got 1 person killed, lets make another!

LISTS DON'T KILL PEOPLE.

And given the number of guns and houses involved, it is highly probably that at least one person would have been killed any way, even without the list. This is therefore a post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy. Subsequent to the publication of the list, thousands of homes were broken into, thousands of guns were used in the commission of these burglaries, and no doubt any number of people were killed in places where no list was published.

Business as usual in America.

Can any one even prove that the criminal knows how to read and read the newspaper in question?

If newspapers kill people, America's high illiteracy rates are a blessing in disguise, aren't they?
