HURR let's BOMB them.

2013-01-23 12:27:54 PM
Couldn't we just drop a nuke on them during one of their tests and just say they screwed up? They can say whatever they want but who will believe them besides the radioactive kimchi.

Also: Act surprised and petulant that this set peace talks back.

Does a little parachute pop out so they can use it again?

Those things aren't cheap

NK is like a petulent toddler. We need to stop giving them their pacifier whenever they throw a tantrum. Just let them cry it out.

What percentage of North Korea's GDP goes up in smoke every time they test a nuke?

Lets get real. Unless something monumental happens from the inside, or some decides to commit the resources, cash, and man power to go slap their shiat, Best Korea is just going to keep on being Best Korea.

Theres no easy or safe solution to this situation.

Sure there is. As long as we don't elect Republicans, we'll be fine and there might actually be an Iinternational effort that isn't just The US+ whatever "coalition of the willing."

There isn't a ton of radiation from a proper nuclear bomb. Its generally detonated in the air above the ground. We've bombed Nevada tons of time. Yes there is radiation leftover and its probably increased our cancer rates. But detonating in the middle of NK isn't going to change much over here.

Wasn't it a Republican administration that let them go nuclear? Then again maybe they wanted them to join the nuclear club so they have another boogey man to use.

Except for the fact that everyone OUTSIDE of NK will know exactly who did it.

It happened in 2006, and again in 2009. With the UN leveling new sanctions, the world is about to find out whether North Korea's young new leader will detonate an atomic bomb, or step away from the path his father laid.

Don't make us write you a strongly worded letter!! DON'T MAKE US!! (shakes tiny ineffectual fist)

Well given the fact the last test is widely regarded to have been at least a partial failure this isn't terribly surprising.

Between their crappy delivery systems and crappy bomb designs I'm not exactly staying up at night.

What is it with these small countries we push around arming themselves with the one weapon that could make us step off?

I don't understand why they would do that, even at the expense of feeding their own people.

It makese no sense at all.

/Nothing we CAN do except the course we have followed all these years. Sanctions. Which do nothing. The north is just going to rattle its saber to show it's not scared of us imperialist dogs, and we go back to our usual dance. The only change that could happen is the north streaming south, and attacking the US posts on the DMZ. It's hard not to see a government that has intentionally isolated itself from just about the entire world, at the expense, harm, and peril of its own people for the purposes of maintaining, basically, a blood-line monarchy based on an entirely fictional cult of personality, brainwashing, terrorizing, manipulating, and impoverishing generations of innocent people as anything other than 100% bad.

If the US (and most of the rest of the world, btw) push them around a little because they provoke their neighbors in an effort to maintain a preferred status for the military leadership, I don't really see much wrong in that. The north invaded the south, don't forget and the US only got involved on the korean peninsula because Japan lost WWII.

I'd say, in the case of NK, it is one case where the US hasn't really done much wrong, IMHO, and I'm pretty damned critical of the US interventionist history.

2013-01-23 01:07:22 PM
At this point, I fear that, maybe, the merciful thing to do would be to let NK starves itself to death. I don't like it, it sucks, but it just seems to be the logic thing to do.

As much as I feel bad for the North Korean people, as much frustration the world has over their obviously corrupt, power hungry leaders that continuously keep feeding their it's-communism-but-it's-really-personality-cult-driven-government bullshiat they don't even believe, joining both north and south Korea, or north Korea with China, would end in disaster, especially because the NK economy is pretty much non-existant, it would kill anyone that dares touch it, and there's so many problems of health, food, work, life quality that would drive people nuts for a long time.

I feel like shiat.

Really the best thing to do would be to just invade North Korea, go it solo, don't apologize to anyone and take out their military and administration, execute all of them. Then cede the land to South Korea and aid in rebuilding.

The civilians shouldn't starve for the sins of the leadership.

Whoever did this would be hated by the rest of the world I'm sure, but the North Korean people would certainly see an improvement in their life.

The problem is that this is EXACTLY what the NK people have been told for 60 years is the reason why they must be completely isolated. That basically the rest of the world wants to destroy them. These people are completely brainwashed and they will fight to the death, man, woman, and child. Yes, some would survive of course, but it would basically be a genocide. Can't do that.

Yes, it was actually good for Germany to be united, but it had its problems, and it wasn't facing the same shortages NK has.
