yes they do - that's a lie we need to squash....

I remember in middle school sex ed. thinking, why wouldn't someone wear a condom??? It's crazy?!!!!

Then when you become sexually active, you realize, its because it feels way worse with one - its shocking because you were never warned, then you start to wonder about the other things they taught -

just be upfront... look, this will make sex worse, but its better than sores on your penis... isn't it?

Alternatively, condoms are awesome because they allow you to still have sex but worry significantly less about disease/pregnancy. It's all about what you compare it to. Compared to not having sex at all, they're pretty great.

2013-01-23 01:54:18 PM
When you're not getting any at all or you're getting it from so many different places that a disease is quite likely then condoms seem perfectly fine.

But once you're in a situation where neither of those apply it's a different game.

Why aren't we telling teens how much better sex is in an a relationship? Instead of telling them they need to use condoms for every encounter ever let's just tell them that these are necessary until you find a partner you trust who is on birth control? There is no reason we have to bring everything to the level of random hook ups.

Takes 5-10 days for the burning surprise to hit.

Also, some of the more modern thinner condoms they market aren't as bad as the ones I remember from the 90s when I first started needing to use them.

Condoms absolutely make it worse. Will I wear them with a random? Sure. Someone I'm dating and we're both tested? Hell no. For the most part, I can't finish while wearing one. The exception being when I was 20 years old, they were great. They helped me last longer. But now that I'm 36 I have the opposite problem.

Using data gathered in 2009 for the National Survey of Sexual Health and Behavior -- a large, representative sampling of the United States conducted by a team of researchers that included Herbenick -- she and her colleagues teased out information from 1,645 men and women ages 18 to 59 whose most recent sexual event included intercourse.

Of those, nearly 28 percent of men and about 22 percent of women said they'd used condoms. That's higher than 2008 statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which showed about 10 percent of women used condoms as opposed to other birth-control methods or no contraception at all.

But the fascinating finding was that the reports of sexual arousal, ease of erection, overall pleasure and orgasm weren't much different in those folks than in people who went bareback.

In other words, people liked sex just fine with or without condoms.

Without: physically better, but only practical in a monogamous relationship

With: physically worse, but enables all sorts of possible hawtness that would not be safe without

You fail to understand that there is a difference between feelings and actual physical contact. It makes no difference to the STD if you love the person or not. Calling something a relationship or "special" actually increases the incidence of STDs since introducing condoms in such relationships tends to stigmatize people as promiscuous. See the hard statistics regarding "abstinence only" programs.

If you notice any significant decrease in stimulation from using a condom, you are doing sex wrong (or wearing terrible condoms, but no excuses anymore). Throwing in my recommendation for condoms with the Elexa ultra sensitives. Have not had a complaint, at least not condom related, nor a break, except once when putting on. I have never once thought to myself, "You know, I didn't much enjoy that session because the thin latex barrier."

Actually, there are significant issues in pharmaceutical research because while the individual piece has not be modified, what is published is selected due to positive results. Plus, this is a survey study which is easy to phrase in ways tend to increase desired responses. I doubt the funding modified the results, but the methodology may be slanted, and other results may exist.

And to clarify, while the face palm does apply to companies spewing lies through the mouthpieces of ostensibly respectable parties it perhaps even more so applies to the effect of companies pulling this sort of shiat for things that are actually useful. We're so used to hearing Joe Camel tell the kiddies that smoking is cool and Ronald McDonald telling us to eat lard at every meal that seeing a condom manufacturer advertise their product under the guise of an "academic study" does more harm than good.

Sex with a condom is a hell of a lot better than farking myself, and a lot safer than bareback. I've never really had an issue with it being overly terrible. They do make a ton of condoms now though, in a million different configurations. The beyond seven and similar micro-thin ones are supposed to be superb. Only used one once, and I could tell a slight difference, but not 'farking a plastic bag' severity.

Try thinner condoms and non-cavernous vaginas.

Magnum Fire & Ice ended up doing the trick for me. Good stuff, and can find them in most major stores.

Even if self-reported satisfaction is the same with and without, its probably just a case of "met expectations" -- in other words, expectations were lowered with a condom, and those lowered-expectations were met. ...but, of course, the sex was *still* fun compared to no sex at all.

Condom = less stimulation. But if the stimulation is good enough to keep going, then you can keep going for a LONG LONG LONG time.

Well obviously there's a safety issue too, but from TFA I got the impression they were primarily concerned with the physical aspect of sexual stimulation: how much sensation was reported with and without the barrier.

There comes a point where she either says "Hurry up and finish, you're going to kill me" or "Hurry up and finish, it's starting to chafe".

In hindsight, I'm pretty sure a lot of my problems do come from putting it on wrong. If an air bubble gets trapped in there, it may as well be happening to someone else. Oddly enough, the only times I've failed to finish were with long-term partners. Hookups and one-time FWB encounters had no problems.

Maybe when you were young and could still count up/remember the total number of times you've ever had sex. Maybe I'm just getting old and there's no novelty factor left in it, but I'd rather just jerk off than use a condom. Sounds jerkish to say it, but it's true. It's like watching The Terminator on TBS with all the good parts edited out. Once in awhile--not often. I have a couple of friends in the business (in a very small way, not big-timers), and sometimes I'll call them or they'll call me. It's OK. It's erotic to a point, but it's also a job (sort of). Mostly it's just kinda for fun. But unless I know the male talent personally, which is not often, condoms are a must with me. I HATE condoms, but I want to stay healthy and happy, you know? ; ) I don't know what working in big-time porn (such as it is) is like, and have no plans to find out. Seconded. Two tiny incisions, a couple of snips, and you're done. The worst part by far is having to use some form of control until you're negative (which in my case, was condoms. boo).

Yeah I've never use a condom again after my first time. Condoms are terrible. And I don't lack for endurance anyhow, so a condom basically means I'll never get there. And its more like you are having sex with a piece of latex than a person. The woman might as well be having sex with a dildo - with a condom on I don't think she would know the difference.

It really does for me since I am not a one ejaculation and then I am done person I tend to go at least twice and with a condom it means only once which means I have to put a lot more effort into control than enjoyment. Also I do not care what type of condom one uses sex does not feel as good with one physically or mentally. I prefer to have sex with someone I can trust than use a condom, but will use one if I have to.

The male O is usually the male O, without much variation. There is the rare exception, but that always comes without a condom.

But even if the O is about the same, getting there is much, much more enjoyable without a condom.

Plus, disposing of the thing afterward is not very romantic.

jonny_q: Condom = less stimulation. But if the stimulation is good enough to keep going, then you can keep going for a LONG LONG LONG time.

Without it, it's better but often harder to keep going.

For some of us, that's a downside. I already tend to last longer than what I'd consider optimal (often for both people involved). With a rubber, I eventually give up, worn out and frustrated, about 60% of the time.

Condoms are a terrible necessity. I despise those things. The option to pursue other birth control methods is one of a short list of benefits that I find in monogamous relationships.

2013-01-23 07:54:08 PM

CruJones: Condoms absolutely make it worse. Will I wear them with a random? Sure. Someone I'm dating and we're both tested? Hell no. For the most part, I can't finish while wearing one. The exception being when I was 20 years old, they were great. They helped me last longer. But now that I'm 36 I have the opposite problem.

I was having the same problem until I tried the Avanti Bare, thinnest condoms commonly sold in the US and they're stronger than Trojan Magnums (only had .75% failure versus about 3%). Get a small pack locally and then bulk buy them on Amazon. Oh, and they're also good with low to moderate latex alergies.

2013-01-23 08:02:07 PM
Using a condom is like washing your feet with your socks on. No matter what the public service announcements -- or MTV TV shows -- say, sex using a condom is simply not as good for the guy. There is no comparison. Condoms are a matter of practicality, but stop trying to convince everyone that there is no difference. There is definitely a difference.

And yes, sex with condoms DOES impede the activity, especially if you use them correctly. To prevent pregnancy and disease, you're supposed to be 100 percent clean when you put on the condom. This means that if you're in the middle of a passionate moment and you're already emitting pre-cum, you are technically supposed to stop what you're doing, go wash off the pre-cum, and THEN put on the condom. If you penetrate for a while and then pull out, perhaps to temporarily move on to some other activity, before coming back to penetrate again, you are supposed to CHANGE the condom, again making sure that all bodily fluids are absent before doing so. I didn't make up these rules, kids -- this is what the condom manufacturers tell you to do if you want to do it correctly.

A big part of sex is the exchange of bodily fluids. Condoms, when used properly, are specifically designed to prevent this. YES, they impede sexual activity. If your standards are low and all you're interested in is a poke, then they're not much of a bother, But if you're really into your partner and the sex, then the damned things are a nuisance.

This entire study can be summed up thusly: NEWSFLASH - PEOPLE WHO ENJOY SEX WITH A CONDOM MORE LIKELY TO USE CONDOMS - THOSE WHO DON'T ENJOY CONDOMS MORE LIKELY TO GO BAREBACK.

This isn't even a 'study'. This was a survey with results that are fairly predictable given the questions used and the audiences targeted. Think about it this way. You do a survey that breaks people into two groups. Those who like to regularly eat vegetarian meals and those who don't. You then ask them how much pleasure they derive from eating vegetarian dishes, and how much from dishes that include meat. The results come in, and what do you know, the people who regularly eat vegetarian dishes report that they enjoy eating those just as much as the people who *don't* eat vegetarian dishes like dishes with meat in them. You then write a study reporting the results, and write a press release that says "Vegetarian meals are just as tasty and non-vegetarian meals, according to new study."

There, you've successfully 'proven' that vegetarian meals taste just as good as non vegetarian meals. And all you had to do was use a non randomly selected group of people, and then use their known biases for a particular activity to influence your results.

Well, that's exactly what these 'scientists' have done. They've successfully shown that people who use condoms don't mind using condoms. Brilliant.

2013-01-23 09:18:09 PM

insertsnarkyusername: Why aren't we telling teens how much better sex is in an a relationship? Instead of telling them they need to use condoms for every encounter ever let's just tell them that these are necessary until you find a partner you trust who is on birth control? There is no reason we have to bring everything to the level of random hook ups.

On the one hand I agree with this- and if both people are adults and have been tested for STDs and the chick is really on birth control yeah, I totally agree.

But I also know some really stupid people- like they are in a relationship but at least one of them is cheating. And the girl lies about being on birth control (stupid if she claims to be on the pill and you never see it- but how will a girl prove she is on nuva ring? depo?).

SO yeah, I agree that CONDOMS UNLESS YOU ARE MARRIED. PERIOD!! is too rough. But you know how stupid young people are, they think they really trust someone and that person is clearly not worthy of anyone's trust.

Remember when you used to do times tables back in elementary school (for those of us in the late 30s/early 40s)? You'd do them over and over and over and eventually it would just click. At that point you got it. That's what condom usage was like for me. Condom, condom, condom, bareback (click). So much different. So much more enjoyable. At 16 a condom is probably a good idea just so you last longer than a minute. At 40 I can happily say I haven't worn one this millennium.

I had an experience with durex (it was college and they were free all over campus) where the latex crinkled up and was scraping... A few common condom mishaps can be avoided by adding some lube in the tip and smearing it around a little before the rollup. Also, KY is not lube, it's prank-lube that drys out so quickly...

/not entirely related to your post, except for the first part
//good luck with that innie.

jsteiner78: yes they do - that's a lie we need to squash....

I remember in middle school sex ed. thinking, why wouldn't someone wear a condom??? It's crazy?!!!!

Then when you become sexually active, you realize, its because it feels way worse with one - its shocking because you were never warned, then you start to wonder about the other things they taught -

just be upfront... look, this will make sex worse, but its better than sores on your penis... isn't it?

I take forever as is, with a condom might as well go home, never gonna finish

megarian: CygnusDarius: The Angry Hand of God: CygnusDarius: As much as the general consensus on condoms (even I think so) making sex dull, it's better that than to get a burning surprise the next morning, or a kid you don't want/not ready to raise.

I've yet to meet a woman that:

1.- Is bi-curious
2.- Gladly gives head
3.- Says yes to anal (then again, it has never occurred to me)
4.- A combination of the three above

"It really does for me since I am not a one ejaculation and then I am done person I tend to go at least twice and with a condom it means only once which means I have to put a lot more effort into control than enjoyment."

Sorry, why can't you just put on a second condom?

If I stop to put on the second condom I tend to lose the erection and then must take time to become erect again which does not happen if I just pull out to ejaculate and then resume right away.

If your goal is to avoid pregnancy, you are either sterile or very lucky.

Are you speaking to my pulling out before ejaculating the first time? If that is the case it doesn't have anything to do with pregnancy it is just better to not have all of the ejaculation in the vagina when intercourse is going to continue. If I am worried about pregnancy that would be one of the times I would reluctantly use a condom.

ModernPrimitive01: ///is too scared to get a vasectomy

Dude, do it. If I can you can, I frigging HATE needles and all things doc related. But getting snipped was *SO* worth it....

Yeah +infinity for the vasectomy. I'm a total coward for all things medical, so I did the no needle no scalpel, and it's seriously just 15 minutes, in and out, no "pain" per se.

HOWEVER

So I'm standing on a step at the foot of the table. I had already changed into a jock strap and loose pants, So I drop trou, sit down, and lay back, my poor junk cold, terrified, and exposed to the word. I'm looking straight up at the ceiling now deciding whether or not to panic. First there's the hand, really just a couple fingers, flopping mister happy side to side plotting the most efficient way to ruin my day. Suddenly, SNAP, I feel a sharp noise and pain. It felt like kind of slap, kind of pinch, kind of squeeze, and a TUG all at once. It's more startling than that, though, because it's not down at the boys where i'm expecting the activity to occur. Oh no, it's right on the head, and I was.. not.. expecting it So I flailed involuntarily a hard twitch and sat bolt upright and saw that that motherfarker had alligator clipped my dick to my shirt.
