I don't know about that other movie, but Stallone was absolutely atrocious in Rhinestone.

I love Johnny Mnemonic! And I'm willing to admit a large part of that love comes from the fact that when I was a kid, I'd rent it from Blockbusters largely because it came in a cool day-glo orange cassette tape, hehe. Same reason I loved The Hunt for Red October so much (red tape).

No Peter O'Toole in Caligula, or even his role in Club Paradise?

Brando in Candy?

One could just make a list of every Tom Cruise movie ever and it would be just as accurate.

Johnny Mnemonic is some of Keanu's finest work, and its inclusion on this list is an outrage. Get something from his role in A Merchant of Venice if you must.

Keynanu is by all reports a great guy, but he's pretty lousy when he's asked to do a serious scene. When he did that "No, I don't believe it... NO NO!" thing in the Matrix the whole audience was laughing. It got worse in Matrix II when he did his "because I love you too damn much" line.

I don't have much to say about Matrix III. I started reading a magazine halfway through.

They can't spell Brendan Fraser correctly. Tom Cruise was great in Valkyrie. Website deserves to be ripped on IMO.

Watch MST3K sometimes. I was amazed how many A list actors had acted in terrible movies (Jack Palance - Outlaw of Gor, Christopher Lee - Fu Manchu, Ron Howard - Village of the Giants) etc.

We watched "Merchant" in Brit Lit in high school. It was painful then, even to a bunch of horny 17 year old girls at the height of The Matrix's popularity. I think my eyes actually start bleeding if I watched it now.

No Halle Berry "MAKE ME FEEL GOOD!"

Worst Academy Award choice in history.

Also:

Ben Affleck in Gigli

The fact that Mark Wahlberg makes money as an "actor" blows my mind. I loved Boogie Nights because the whole thing was over the top camp and bad dialog as a theme, but with Mark he was just being himself. He acts like that in every movie I've seen him in.

99 times in 100, bad acting is more the fault of the director or the editor rather than the actor. If the director doesn't get a decent take on film, or the editor doesn't use the best take, it's going to be shiat.

Also, not that I'm a big Mark Walberg fan or anything, but that M. Night Shyamalan POS "The Happening" is 100 on him and not the actors. He directed them to act poorly/cheesy because he wanted the movie to have a "B movie" feel to it

Don't forget Jack Palance, Peter Lawford, Jim Backus, Neville Brand, Pat Buttram, Alan Hale Jr., and Arthur Godfrey in "Angel's Revenge".

Jack is the best though. "Joints? Spleefs? Reefers? Doobies?"

Or Mark Wahlberg. Or Kristen Stewart. Or Hayden Christensen. Subby...I really, really hope for your sake that this isn't your website. Just awful.

Also, just because Tom Cruise is insane doesn't mean he's a bad actor.

Really? Mark Wahlberg is terrific. Maybe you're just from New York and don't like people from Boston.

I actually consider Tom Cruise underrated as far as his acting skills. He's shown what he can do in films prior. He just seems to choose a lot of bad films lately.

Lot of low-hanging fruit in TFA. Might as well throw in Cherokee Jack.

Be more interesting to go for some bigger game. Stuff like Jack Lemmon in Branagh's Hamlet.

I consider the bad acting of Hayden Christensen in Episode II to be legendary. It didn't help that the dialogue was terrible, but he somehow made it worse. Way over the top.

Tom Cruise was playing a German soldier. He had absolutely no German accent, something an actor with his chops should be able to pull off.

It's lazy acting.

I'm not sure why the accuracy of a German accent should matter when the Germans are all speaking English.

I don't know what adaptation you guys are talking about. I can only assume you actually mean Much Ado About Nothing.

Different plays are different.

I would throw Chris O'Donnel in here because there was a period of time in the 90s when he was an A-Lister despite being terrible in everything. It must have been his looks. Chris Klein too.

2013-01-23 11:02:46 AM
I would hardly call Brendan Fraser and Hayden Christiansen A-listers even at the heights of their careers. Brendan's been in a couple of decent movies, though.

Also list is fail without Liam Neeson in "Battleship." I was forced to sit through that piece of crap and wondered if Neeson, like Michael Caine, hated the movie but liked the house the movie bought him.

2013-01-23 11:03:52 AM
Choosing a bunch of A-listers who are not exactly A-listers for their acting prowess isn't a particularly interesting list. A better list would be a list of usually excellent actors/actresses giving really shiatty performances.

Not really. I thought it was doing a great job at creating tension for something that you know fails, and displaying how brave those Germans were for making a last stand for the good of their country. It did a decent job of displaying history that people often overlook/never heard about.

/seriously, like 23 attempts by Germans to assassinate Hitler.

Or it's like Edward Norton in "The Italian Job" where they force him to do one more flick to finish up his contract.

I was 10 by the time I was old enough to sit at my computer and play half life. I really think arcades and pinball machines faded in popularity by that point. First arcade I went to only had one pinball machine, and lets be honest would you rather play aerosmith pinball or silent scope?

Tom Cruise was awful in War of the Worlds and the movie kind of sucked, too.
In fact, Tom Cruise has been awful in all his movies (except maybe Rainman) but most of his movies are great entertainment: The Firm, A Few Good Men, Top Gun, etc.
Nic Cage has been awful in everything but Leaving Las Vegas where he basically played himself.
