lol... it seems silly, but he could have easily drifted out to sea and been screwed.

Good job all around.

The rescued man lives in a boat in the harbor? Is he related to the man who lives in a van down by the river?

Is that Santa in the raft??

Riptides are crazy. You could be treading water 5' further out than a buddy closer to shore, and start jetting south like you're on some kind of water ride at an amusement park. All the while your friend just sits there laughing.
Asshole.

Always have a paddle on your boat, regardless of the size.

FTA: "Within four minutes, Harbor Patrol supervisor Becka Kelly had arrived to recover the man and his dog and take them to their boat."

What?

/all your base...

Geez, that was in response to DubtodaIll. I'm not awake enough to find the quote button.

My wife and I took a trip to Vegas a few years ago and took a boat tour of the Grand Canyon. Some yahoo in a kayak was stuck in the river after his boat flipped. Our boat captain told us he wasn't allowed to leave him stranded so we had to sit there watching this idiot for about 30 minutes. The water wasn't even up to his waist. Finally, someone from shore literally walked out to him and drug his stupid ass back to the shore, which was about 15 feet away. He was screaming, crying, and kicking the whole way. Even the old people on the tour were yelling things like "pussy", "idiot", etc. I was really embarrassed for him.

Worse things to be stuck on a raft with:
2.bp.blogspot.com
Also better things:
s005.radikal.ru

(In the above scenario, Oliva would be Pi, and I would be the tiger. Rwoar.)

Rufus Lee King: It's a good idea to always have on oar, ya know, just in case.

Sounds about right. Let's see--Olivia spends nights in terror of the tiger, who threatens her life but never actually touches her, and at the end, the tiger--well, that's a spoiler. But let's just say that there's no meeting of the minds, or of anything else, between Pi and the tiger.

Well, then.....I'm a flying fish who wetly slaps across her face?

There has to be some imaginary scenaro where I tap that.

A good argument for requiring a license to drive a boat.

And for scale, that little white sliver at the base of the rock to the left of center is a car or truck. The riptides around the rock can get pretty mean.

Lived there for a long time. Where that pic was taken is a rip tide because the Power Plant discharges there. That poor fool took his "raft" all the way around the Rock and got caught in the flow. (with a broken motor).. Otherwise, land the damned thing on the beach and carry it 100 yards to the Bay itself and go back to your stupid live-on-board.. What a bufoon.
