(Huffington Post)   Apparently, there was an episode of Dexter's Laboratory that was "too racy" for Cartoon Network because it had "bleeped curses." But you can watch it now if you're so inclined   (huffingtonpost.com) divider line 59

Great GT cartoon, but it was no Samurai Jack.

I miss the old days of REAL Cartoon Network.

Before the dark times. Before "Tim and Eric".

Me either but I didn't like a majority of the CN cartoons growing up,especially that Cow and Chicken one but Samurai Jack was amazing. Nick was awesome during the 90's so maybe that's why? I'll still watch Spongebob,Rocko's Modern Life,Angry Beavers or Invader Zim cause they're still fantastic.
I didn't like Invader Zim when it came on but waaaay later on I read Johnny The Homicidal Maniac,Squee and Fillerbunny and figured out he was the same guy behind it. I watched it and found it far better than I remembered, well besides when it came on that I was a snotty teen and having a phase of "Cartoons are for babies!"

I like all you named except for what's highlighted. I figured the exact day I got old was when I figured Hank was my favorite character on King of the Hill (well besides Cotton).

Is this pre- or post-Christine Cavanaugh Dexter?

CC is the only Dexter for me. Whatever happened to her? Her retirement at an early age has been kept a mystery.

You aren't that far off. Subby may be making little of it, but I'm not sure how I would've reacted to seeing that cartoon as a child. Rude puts how the characters act mildly, I can see why Cartoon Network decided not to show that episode.

eh, what little I've seen of Regular Show is kind of crap. It seems like crassness is the only joke on the show. Adventure Time is a legitimately great show, though. The last new episode was great; I don't think I've ever seen a show that would voluntarily take a shiat on its fanfic-writing fans.

I was watching it with my girls, and was laughing at the same thing. The show is weird, because while it's hugely enthusiastically geeky about some things, they have a great self awareness and cynics' wit about them that can keep me laughing t the crazy shiat they're doing.

I was in Paris the week before last on vacation, and I kept saying that over and over again with the snootiest flair I could. Obviously not out and about, pissing off the Parisians, but in the hotel room to my wife and kids.

Wife, sadly, had no idea what I was doing and was kind of annoyed.

This one was good, but I prefer the one where Finn gets the mini-characters. It was a much bigger fark you to annoying fans, in an awesome way. They pretty much say those who get too involved in "shipping" or who write relationship fanfiction are slovenly losers with no friends who ruin fiction with nonsensical relationship pairings that sink into weirdness, broken characters, and depravity.

You should check out Supernatural. They ended up doing an entire season arc about people who write fanfic about the two main characters (who are brothers) on the show. It was exceedingly funny.

Regular Show, Adventure Time, The Adventures of Gumball, and Gravity Falls are great cartoon stuff and should be watched. Gravity Falls in particular.

I loved Dexter as a kid before school and I still think it's hilarious now. Not every episode is, but it had the same appeal to me that Spongebob, Adventure Time, Rocko did, where there are jokes I laugh at now I didn't get as a kid.

Favorite Dexter's Lab episode: Beard to be Feared

I wouldn't know but I assume all the bright colors would draw you in and the food characters would make a pastry run a regular occasion. No Dorito Princess yet, though.

Never really got into Dexter's Laboratory - something about his voice annoyed me.

The only cartoons I got into during that time were The Powerpuff Girls and Samurai Jack. And even The Powerpuff Girls got tiresome after a while.

But I never got tired of Samurai Jack - great, kick-ass cartoon.

/Soooo wish they'd do a movie of him finally getting home.

When it comes to people who don't own TVs, I tend to assume they still watch Netflix or torrents on their computer, thus creating a loophole that they can brag about. I definitely understand not watching broadcast TV, or not having cable, but bragging about not having a physical set has lost some impact now that computers can be used for all of your entertainment needs.

Used to work with a guy (in his 20s) who claimed he didn't have a TV growing up. Turns out he meant his parents didn't subscribe to cable. Not quite the same thing...

Cartoons have always been loaded with sexual innuendo and adult type themes. It was just that they went over your head as a child and in the older cartoons the references were so subtle that most adults missed them because they weren't paying too close of attention to the cartoons. These days the references are very overt and in your face.

Season 2 contained all the best episodes like:

Mock 5 -- Speed Racer parody

Eww That's Growth -- "Big" parody

Backwards -- The whole episode is done in reverse

Dexter and Computree Get Madark! -- Written and narrated by a six-year old and hilariously animated. ("And then Mandark.... and then Dexter said, 'You are stoooopid. You are stoooopid.")

Last But Not Beast -- Voltron parody

I liked the Dad storylines the best. The Mach 5 episode, the snowball fight episode where he trains the kids, and the Dad is Disturbed episode where he just wants to watch the game in his chair but they keep bothering him... the parents were really funny in some episodes. There was a good one where the kids drink all the coffee so the parents go crazy, and another where Dexter gets a bad grade so he puts DeeDee in their mom's body to pretend to be her with the principal. Now I gotta go watch this show.
