So he looks like the missing guy, but the decomposition is so bad they're finding it hard to ID the victim..?

Random 911 question. How does the call start recording before the operator answers? You can hear the caller saying "Oh my God, oh my God" while the phone is still ringing. Weird.

I saw something about that a while back... supposedly it's done so they cut down on prank calls to 911. When you call, you'll hear it ringing, but the system has already picked up the phone at that point.

"The neighbor who went missing and the vultures who have been around for a while. We decided we're not going out there, but something's been bugging me to just go and check it out, so I did just now and I--," said the 911 caller.

If the caller had just waited a while, the vultures would have gone away

Wow, nicely written article.

What a craptastic reporting job on that. Where are vultures, one on one interview, dead body under a blanket?
And it took 3 anchors, 2 studio sets and multiple graphics. But no money shots.
And I don't care how many times they tried to make it more dramatic. I really didn't hear a whole lotta stress on the 911 call. That niehbor seemed to calm for all those 'oh my gods'.
She would be on my short list of suspects.

Ah, no. The first 911 operator you talk to isn't always the dispatcher for the service you need in the area you're in. What you're hearing is the recording from the 911 operator, as they ring the dispatcher.

Vultures are Nature's Morticians and they work quickly. Out in the country, they can make a full-size deer disappear in three days or less. So it probably wasn't decomposition as much as the birds hadn't left much meat on him.

get real: If I saw turkey buzzards in my backyard I would investigate on day one.

This. You know it's going to be something dead that needs to be removed.

Carrion birds eat dead, not live people, so they do not attack.

damn, how big is her back yard? I have a .223 acre postage stamp of a yard.

critters seem to chose my back yard to crawl in and die. So far, skunk in pool, raccoon behind the shed, another raccoon between holly bush and weeping pine tree (yes, that's that it is). Before you say "Lucky bastard, you have a pool", it was taken out back in 1986 due to settling back fill. No buzzards, but so freaking obvious that something sizable had croaked. I can't imagine a human body.

"Weeping pine tree". I would bet that is what was called a "weeping willow" tree back in my Michigan days. Very interesting and sightly tree and always used to grow to the exact right height.
