jvl: Is it really rocket science to build a phone which does not look like a clone of the iPhone? Designers never had trouble with that before 2007.

Well seeing how the very idea of a smartphone is that it's all screen, it's kinda difficult not to build a device that's rectangular (because all visual media is rectangular) and 90% screen on the front of the phone.

Ah, I was wondering when the iFanboys would show up to talk about how Apple invented everything.

Cool. Will it lock up my browser for 5 minutes every time I open a site with Flash? I would love that Firefox feature on my mobile devices as well.

I'm sorry, but I'd rather not waste my monthly data allotment on nothing but updates

I'm sorry, but does that not look EXACTLY like Apples iOS design? Suing over round corners is bullshiat, but come on, I can see Apple suing the living fark out these guys.

At least Googles Android came out with a operating system with some originality that looks nothing like the iOS, but this is a blatant rip off.

So will these be the first phones with memory leaks?

YodaBlues: hobberwickey: As an developer who works a lot with HTML5 I am really excited about this. Unfortunately I do question whether it will do well because there are far far to many people who 'know' HTML5/CSS/Javascript who will write the crappiest, clunkiest apps for this and it'll fall apart.

HTML5 is great when done right, but it is almost never done right. I blame JQuery. IE 7/8

IE has the second most-used browser out there, and the majority of it is still 8 or earlier, which doesn't support HTML5. The hacks we have to use to get shiat to work for IE is retarded.

/IE 9 isn't bad, most stuff works without issue.
//Still wishes everyone just used WebKit.

Meh, IE8 is pretty terrible, but at least it's slowly fading away. JQuery's picking up steam and filling the web with crappy, bloated web apps coded by people who go to stackoverflow and ask questions like, 'it is possible to convert this jquery code to javascript?'

azpenguin: My really obscure smartphone uses an OS that you've probably never heard of.

BlackBerry, huh? Sorry to hear that.

No thanks. In three years it will probably weigh 50 pounds and need a car battery.

/get it?
//I'm making fun of firefox because it is bloated.

In the Special Android Fan world, pointing out the obvious is being a fanboy. And lurking for someone to point out the obvious is normal. Also, padded walls.

/ No offense to those of you who are Android Fans, but not Special Android Fans

You mean the "obvious" that anything with a touchscreen and rounded corners is an iPhone clone?

I was just saying to the family the other day... "There needs to be more smart phone OSs."

Looks like I was right.

/Still hoping that the Windows phones fail so that Windows 9 is more focused on desktop/laptop functonality.

Just as Android is moving away from the iOS look and feel, a new guy pops up and wants to play.

Sorry, I fear that the Firefox phones will sell about as well as current Blackberry devices do.

oh awesome, an underpowered phone with an undeveloped OS, sign me up!

also, if this is the only compliment you could come up with after testing the product, it might not be that groundbreaking:
During our hands-on time with the previous beta version of the OS we liked what we saw. The interface proved slick, and we appreciated the ability to swipe the lock screen up or down.
