//Not really, I just happened to find a good deal on 'em at the same time as a cat recipe thread sprung up.

Not a fan of their Sweet and Sour Purrrrrk.  I think they've been cutting their Siamese with polecat.

Yeah... cats might be natures most effective predator but most of the endangered birds in NZ are endangered by rodents.

Cats are crapping in our houses... and we're cleaning it up! Did we lose a war?!?!?!?

Poop in a box... rub feet in box... walk on counter. Yeah, I want that in my house.

And of course... to save the birds.

/So they can crap on my car... more.

If you rub your feet in your poop box... then walk on the counter... I don't want you in my house either. In fact... forget the "counter" part.

He's worried about New Zealand's retarded flightless birds. The only way they could crap on your car is if someone launched them. Maybe using some kind of catapult...

Not necessarily. Rats kill a lot of bird eggs, especially birds that can't fly. It's a major problem in Hawaii. Take away the cats and the rats run rampant.

Yeah national news covered it last night and spent the entire story implying he is trying to get your cat taken away. Shameful really.

I LOVE animals, have dogs, had many cats, love em all. Anyone mistreats animals near me is in trouble bad. But I understand the harm they do here and support control and slow reduction.

I wonder if it is as self-perpetuating problem as it is here in the states?

I have neighbors that both feed the feral cats on their property, as well as refill feeding stations they have set up throughout the wider neighborhood.

I wouldn't have as big a problem with this if the animals were also being captured, spayed/neutered, and released if possible. Because this is absent, feeding them means even more cats to feed in the long run.

I have a cat and a dog, and their health is being endangered by an ever expanding population of feral cats.

Points 1-3 and 5 seem reasonable, although unregistered cats that are captured should be put up for adoption as opposed to immediate euthanasia.

Point 4 will never happen.  Too many people love cats and a voluntary ban is laughable.  Same goes for enacting laws that prohibit cats.  If you can't get a ban for dogs, which are known for occasionally chomping on and killing humans, you're not going to get a total ban on cats.

Indeed rats and mice are issues here too.. however domestic cats catch such vast numbers of native birds and lizards that my opinion (and that of the department of conservation) is that they are, on balance, a bad thing.

Why can't a ban work? Australia and numerous other countries ban specific breeds of dogs, and the city of Canberra bans unleashed outdoor cats. NZ could enact reasonable legislation to reduce the toll cats take without seriously encroaching on people freedoms.

OMG, you just described my aged next door neighbors. We have this huge, mangy looking yellow tom that dominates, named Ol Roy, after the food they have been putting out for years for cats. Of course I am the asshole for asking about shots and whatnot.

and if you're in north america, expect the coyotes to move in soon, attracted by the population of delicious edible cats. then your dog or cat gets mauled by them.

i hate people who feed feral animals. you're not actually doing any good

We already keep our cats indoors. Cats are fine indoor pets if that's all they know, but once you have an outdoor cat it's probably cruel to suddenly decide to keep it indoors 24x7.
