namegoeshere: Callous: CNN says one person has been detained, but it's unclear it that person is the shooter.

MSNBC has one male handcuffed to a stretcher, and one male suspect fleeing towards a housing development. I don't know why he is a suspect, or if just fleeing from the sound of gunfire while wearing a hoodie and a ball cap makes you a suspect.

They don't know, so it's safer to assume he is a shooter until he is until they ID him then assume he isn't and have him shoot some other place up.

Callous: GAT_00: Callous: GAT_00: Two more people got some glorious 2nd Amendment freedom today.

Or more accurately they got to see first hand how well Gun-Control laws really work.

Really?  You know what the three victims now were shot by?  You know that it wasn't bought legally?  Because if you know that much detail, the police probably need to talk to you because you clearly know the shooter and knew his plans, so you're an accomplice.

Well it was on campus, so it's fairly easy to assume that he violated the law prohibiting carrying a gun on campus.  Unless you think that he violated absolutely no laws when he went on campus and shot people?  Or you believe that there is another combination of words we could write down and turn into a law that would have prevented this?

So clearly the solution is to arm everyone.  If a few people go nuts and shoot people, clearly everything will be better if everyone was armed!

Callous: Tons of police on scene but they appear to be moving about pretty casually.

it's texas.  instead of a swat team, they sent the saunter team.

Nearly all of these stories at some point involve a "possible second shooter" and I can't recall a single instance where that actually was the case.

It's a lot easier to ignore a crazy on the Intartubes than it is to ignore a crazy storming through a mall, or theater, or church, or school, indiscriminately firing rounds through windows, walls, people, and so on..

You know what, and I'll probably get it in the ear for this, with all the crazy farkers getting guns, I'm OK with imposing a waiting period, licensing, tracking, and so on. I'm happy to be inconvenienced to own guns if it means crazys can't get their hands on this shiat. I'm tired of doing nothing, and tired of having to be the upstanding citizen that has to hear all this shiat whenever someone does something bad.

Do I think it'll solve the problem? Nope. But if we make it harder to get and we make sure that it's harder to legally possess, within reasonable limits, we'll deter at least some of these farkers.

If it's gang or drug related, though, not sure this would be stopped by it.

Kit Fister: Weaver95: hmm.  MSNBC is saying that there are at least 2 victims and that they caught one of the shooters.  there might be another one on the loose.

This one stinks more of a drug/gang thing than an intended school shooting.

If so that will end the story pretty quickly...Gang shooting = meh whatever...

CNN is just saying "multiple people have been shot".  Doesn't say if they are all victims or if any are the shooter(s).

I dunno. maybe.  two shooters wouldn't necessarily change the scenario tho.  I guess we'll wait and see.

THAT is a valid argument.

But just because it is new and powerful is not SUFFICIENT, though it may be part of a larger argument.

Well, we have no details, so no way to make a judgement on what happened, other than a couple of dudes cited as suspects, some people shot, one suspect rolling out wounded (so, someone shot back? Got shot by his partner?), seems to me like these weren't spree killers, they were there for some other purpose.

Also, anyone else see this?

Well then it's a fair fight, the NRA can come to the shooters' defense, and tell the teacher to go pound sand because they were too stupid to pack their own heat, and be ready at any moment for gunfire to break out in a library..

Columbine. Certain bank robberys, too.

Basically, it's just a good way to communicate that "yeah, we got the guy we think did it, but don't drop your guard until we've made sure that everything's clear."

Nope, still not the time to talk...

It's never going to be time. Not that a "discussion" would help anyway. People have been talking constantly since the shooting at the school.
Unfortunately, instead of talking about how to prevent gun violence, they're talking about how all these mass shootings are government conspiracies.
*sigh*

Because all the rational responses and requests are drowned out by the ZOMG GUNNSSSSSSSSSS crowd on both sides, who never stop to consider ways that balance the 2A with preventing this shiat, and how we can actually address the wider causes of it to begin with.

I'd certainly feel safer if only they let me purchase my own rocket launcher - I have a wife and kids to support - thugs see my rcoket launcher and it will deter them. Side benefit is the added upper-body workout from packing that thing around.

Pre-86 RPG launchers are legal to own with a 200 Tax Stamp, and each grenade for them are legal as Destructive Devices, each also requiring a $200 tax stamp to own.

Go to the Knob Creek MG shoot, some guys usually show up with 40mm grenade launchers or other types of launchers and let you blow shiat up.

If you can pass a background check and have enough money, you might be surprised just how safe you can make yourself feel...

/many things aren't necessarily "illegal" to get, just "inconvenient" to get
//you just have to go through enough hoops and pay enough money.
