Some of these people manage to be living arguments against both evolution and intelligent design.

The good thing about creationists is that they are, in fact, getting dumber, and soon they will have the requisite lack of intelligence to worship someone operating a Zippo lighter as Prometheus.

Well, E. coli. may have evolved into some humans.

I would have said, "Well, in culture 273-11 we noticed they were more sensitive to light.  And in culture 152-11 they seemed to have a slight resistance to certain alpha radiation.  And in culture 352-11, which was exposed to heavy solutions of liquified fast food, we got this: " (holds up pic)

In his case, he's trying to ask how babby is formed.

I first read this as "how e coli evolve in humans", and had a flash of hope that a legislator from my home state had asked at least an intelligible question about biology.

Then I saw the video, and now I has a sad.

Now I know evolution is hogwash.  There is no way I share a common ancestor with that mouth-breathing cretin.

Or.....maybe Devo was really on to something......

The legitard is doing what most creationists do - practicing an argumentative fallacy of reductio ab absurdum. They attack evolution by reducing the theory to massively stupidly absudly wrong statements and then say "see how stupid evolution is? it's defenders can't prove this!"

The correct response at that point is, to paraphrase BunkSquad, "you are a living argument against both evolution and intelligent design."

I had that same "in" misread. You know, because the "in" sentence is rational, "into" sentence is insanity.

I was trying to look up information on what actually drives bacteria flagella and ran into a huge derpstorm of creationist/counter creationist bullshiat that made finding out the answer difficult.

The thing I find amusing about this video and others in the thread, is you can kind of see the moment in the creationists own eyes when they decide to toss their own distorted sense of logic into the wind and just throw a hail mary of retard. They always get a kind of semi-pleased smirk on their faces--as if the stupidest thing they've knowingly said all day is somehow also their cleverest.

I see it a bit differently.

A lot of creationists I talk to seem to think that evolution posits a linear process that has culminated in human beings.  That is, they seem to believe that evolution sees all "lower" life forms as our ancestors.  They don't seem to get the "tree of life" idea, that while we are related to all living things, we are not descended from them.  That's why they ask stupid questions like, "if we came from apes, why are there still apes?"  (And, when you tell them humans ARE apes, they get really agitated.)

In any case, I think this is an example of a straw man fallacy rather than  reductio ad absurdum.

Ooh.  I forgot about that.  I really need to start making a list.  A completely and totally depressing as hell list.

Yeah, well, the monkeys at the zoo aren't continuously "evolving" into people, therefore evolution is finally disproven absolutely forever and ever. Suck on that, science nerds!

We laugh at such ignorance, but they're making decisions that affect the lives and well-being of so many people. It's not acceptable to be that damned stupid and still claim to be, somehow, in a position of authority on such matters.

Why, Louisiana, did you elect people this damned dumb? I have a feeling I know the answer, sadly...

Having watched that video previously on fark, I'm must say that I'm kind of on his (his staff's?) side, in that it sounds like he's just trying to say: "We have enough goddamn troops on that island already, and if we send anymore, we might just sink the thing!" Granted: slowest, worst, most senile-sounding delivery ever, but I can kinda buy the 'joke gone wrong' explanation.

TFA? I got nothin'...

The thing is, he thinks he has nailed it. The ignorant aren't typically aware of their own shortcomings. He's presented what he thinks is an irrefutable argument, completely unaware that what he's actually spouted makes no sense whatsoever.

He would've made more sense if he'd stood up and screamed "BUGRIT! MILLENNIUM HAND AND SHRIMP!"

That actually happened. Guam flipped over, and all the troops slid off into the ocean. You don't remember that?

This lady exemplifies why teaching of evolution in Louisiana schools should be mandatory.  Look, you want to reject it and believe something else, that's your choice, but at least demonstrate you have a working knowledge of what you are rejecting instead of dragging everyone else in this state who does not share your religious believes down you your ignorant level.

If this fellow had an equivalent position at a Fortune 500 company that would have been his last day. American voters should have the right to have those who exhibit horrible ignorance or incredible stupidity be immediately relieved of their duties. It's no wonder people in other countries laugh at America. We allow jokes to run our governments.

No, wait.

He's got a point there:
He could very well have evolved from fecal coliform bacteria.
I've always had the feeling that politicians were produced and reproduce like all other bacteria - fission.

/'Course it could also be because he has shiat for brains.
