The stones, which I use, bring the temp down about 10 degrees from room temperature. Like really good wine you don't want it chilled lower than 60 degrees because it numbs out the taste. A good wine and whiskey like a 'French Room" temperature which is mid 60s. I enjoy my high end bourbons at about 62-65 degrees because it brings out (to me) more of the spice. A Parker's 27 wants to be 65 degrees and the subtle textures come alive at that temperature. This is where the stones come in. Bringing it down from 72-75 to the proper drinking temperature.I have a selection of bourbons both expensive and not so expensive. I also have a bottle of Jack Ds from 1978 which has only had 3 drinks removed from it. Love some bourbon!

My grandfather taught me at a young age to never mix anything with Scotch except a tiny amount of water (or a small ice cube if the bottle was too warm). And he was a Scot who liked his whisky. Of course, he didn't heat his house to anything like American temps, either, so the whisky was at the proper temperature to warm you from the inside. Oh, and he also told me to never drink anything spelled "whiskey"./yes, he taught me to like whisky when I was less than 10 years old//it was along time ago in a place far, far away
