Looks like it's Michael Shannon, as Zod.

Why even bother to include an Olsen character? Will there also be Krypto? Beppo? Comet? Jimmy is as lame and as dated as all of those. But, oh, wait - he's being reconfigured for today's sassy youth! He's going to get tits, and somehow be sexy. Louis Lane, decidedly less so.

No, Robin. The gay community relies on our homoerotic escapades to advertise their lifestyle.

/she uses a farking slingshot!

I take it you never read the Dark Knight Returns graphic novel, because they're just following the source material. Sometimes Frank Miller is brilliant and sometimes he gets some weird ideas.

While true, at least the novels had some merit with regards to artwork and mood. The movies got rid of all of that and stuck with the slash-fic storyline and terrible dialog.

If you go back to most of Miller's work, it's never been strong on plot.

The main thing that really bothered me in the DKR animated was Peter Weller's horrible voice acting.

The Stealth Hippopotamus: Lex has worked with Darkseid before.

Never particularly comfortably, though. Both Lex and Darkseid are smart enough to work with others when it suits them, but not really as friends or as equals. To Lex, a teammate like Darkseid is merely a lower priority on the list of future enemies. To Darkseid, a teammate like Lex is merely a lower priority on the list of future slaves.

I've never understood the need for gender switching in a case like this. They want a sexy photographer, no problem, just make one up. There's no need for it to be Jenny Olsen, or any Olsen. You can make it Jenny Smith, still have a brief Jimmy Olsen cameo and everyone wins.

Jizz Master Zero: TelemonianAjax: I've heard rumor of a script floating around at some point to set a DD film in 70s NYC, full on gritty street level shenanigans. If only...

Weren't no rumor. It was pretty big news a few months ago. Fox was looking at getting a reboot started on Daredevil and that was the script that Joe Carnahan turned in. The rights, however, were set to expire and revert back to Marvel back on October 10th and Fox knew there was absolutely no way for them to have a movie in the can by then. Marvel started offering to extend Fox's lease on the rights if they handed over Galactus and Silver Surfer, but Fox said no dice (since they're trying to do their own mini-Marvel Cinematic Universe and need an epic villain that isn't X-Men-centric) and let the rights expire. So the good news is that Daredevil is back with Marvel. The bad news is that they're sticking to their, "only two or three movies a year," rule and they're booked out through 2015. Hopefully they'll let Carnahan come back on when they finally decide to do Daredevil.

Also, Marvel has The Punisher and Blade back, so it's all coming back together. Slowly.

Nonsense. Darkseid respects and admires ambition above all things -- if a human schemes to overthrow Darkseid he is embracing Darkseid's purest truth!

2013-01-22 09:31:57 PM

The Stealth Hippopotamus: Grimlock2099: Doomsday or Darkseid? Because Doomsday is a mindless killing machine. Darkseid is the one with more of a capability to manipulate. As far as having Lex in a Zorg kind of role, I think that Darkseid could find someone to manipulate that is far less... unpredictable (if Lex is done properly) than Luthor.

Luthor is (should be) the villain version of Batman. Beyond smart, calculating and patient. Lex in the movies is always motivated by greed. In the comics and animation he is motivated by his hatred of aliens and metas (specifically Superman) and lust for power. He feels that humans should direct thier own destinies and that he is best suited to lead that destiny.

Lex would be too arrogant to take orders from Darkseid but if he did you can bet the Kent Farm that he has an endgame. Darkseid would require total subservience and loyalty... he even suspects otherwise you're dead.

He did actually. I didn't even watch that show all that much but what I did see, you're right, he was a very good Luthor. Evil, vindictive, power hungry, wasn't interested in real estate. I was really just talking about the theatrical films, which logically should have been better than a TV show on the WB or UPN or the CW or whatever the fark it  was.

Actually, from the little I saw of Smallville, that should have been made into a theatrical film. Maybe over the dozen seasons they violated too much "canon" or whatever Comic Book Guy complaint someone might have had.

They should make a Smallville movie where Superman gets tired of Lana's drama queen bullshiat and throws her into the sun. I would go to that movie ten times.

Oh no. Nonono. Noooooooo. That was purely the people in charge at the time not respecting the source. No, this was all in the last year or so. That... movie, I guess you could call it, was the reason they wanted to hold on to the rights. Fox believes that there's potential in the Fantastic 4 property, especially if it's combined with the X-Men franchise, and they're doing a total FF reboot from the ground up. They've hired Mark Millar to "oversee" (think Joss Whedon without the writer/director credit) their little Marvel Universe. The previous Fantastic 4 movies aren't being invited in, but the ground they tread is going to be tread again. Hopefully this time with a little dignity.

xcv: I'm sure Disney's Marvel can't wait to put out a movie about a misunderstood, anti-social man in a trenchcoat shooting up of tons people after we just had the Year of the Assault Rifle in the media.

This year? No. But, like I said, they're booked through 2015. The next open slot (that we know of) is 2016 at the soonest. By then, I'm betting the public will have cooled off and the outrage will be minimal, if any at all. Hell, take a look at the slate of movies out now and coming soon: lots of movies with gun-happy anti-heroes. I really don't think that'll be an issue. Also, Disney isn't beyond releasing R movies. That's what they've always historically had their other companies (Touchstone, Hollywood, Miramax, etc) for. Who knows how long their distribution deal with Paramount goes and if they're just going to be distributed through Marvel Films at the end of that partnership. Keep in mind that if you're going to refer to it as Disney's Marvel simply by virtue of ownership then you are, by extension, making it Disney's The Avengers and Disney's Iron Man 3. By that same logic, it also means that we've already seen Disney's Miramax release Disney's Pulp Fiction and Disney's Exotica while Disney's Dimension released Disney's Scream and Disney's From Dusk Till Dawn. Considering that they're pretty much letting Marvel run itself with the same deal that Miramax/Dimension used to have when it was active (do whatever the fark you want, just don't do it NC-17, don't tarnish the brand and make us money), I'm inclined to believe this particular rumor. I just have no reason to believe that it'll happen soon.
