Yeah they do that now with super hero movies. Either that or they change a character's race....

a scene of Laurence Fishburne's Perry White

....oh. Well that's cool. I just don't see Morpheus having the kind of manic energy that Perry White's supposed to have.

"Clark, I believe that you are Superman. But you must believe."

I just saw Hancock with Will Jada Smith. Whatever you might think of the movie itself, if Superman gets the flying as well as that film did, it should be pretty cool. Or even Matrix Reloaded. Just none of that creepy floating around crap from the last Superman.

Well, that's a welcome change. At least when Superman has to go help "Jenny" out of a jam, it will seem less homoerotic.

Perry White isn't cool. Perry White is the opposite of cool, the man is damn near having a heart attack most the time.

Now how is Laurence Fishburne going to be not cool?!

And if you have to have a female Jimmy why not get a redheaded female?!? Do they hate us this much? A perfect time to serve up a hot new redhead and you're not going to do it?!

So, where does, or DOES it, flow into continuity? Did he get a sex change or was there even ever a Jimmy?
See, that's the problem with DC's 52. I don't know what I'm SUPPOSED to know.
Did the events in Superman Returns happen? Superman 1, 2, 3 or 4?
I don't care about a black Heimdall or a female Robin, but when a character changes sexes, it kind of changes the rules.

Am I supposed to forget ALL the previous stuff and start over?
Maybe Superman can give me a kiss like the end of Superman 2, so I can forget.

Clark Kent's Daily Planet colleague Jimmy Olsen could change gender for the upcoming Superman reboot Man of Steel.

Add in Lex Luthor and a "womanifier-ray" that runs on pink Kryptonite and you've got a golden age comic.

Yes, it's a reboot of the Superman movies (imitating the Dark Knight series). So this one will deal with his origin, although we don't know how much of the movie is dedicated to it.

FreetardoRivera: they can change the race or sex of all the crappy, secondary characters they want as long as we get a new villain

No doubt this was done in the hopes that, if Superman were not the same gender as his "pal," it would cut down on the amount of erotic fanfiction clogging the Internet.

It will fail. Everyone knows Superman/Batman is where it's really at.

The Stealth Hippopotamus: Now how is Laurence Fishburne going to be not cool?!

Perhaps there will be a scene where Superman and Perry White come across a boat carrying a Vietnamese family. Superman will tell Perry not to stop, but he'll insist on stopping anyway. While questioning the family, the young daughter will rush towards a basket on the boat. Superman, fearing that the basket might contain kryptonite, then proceeds to massacre the family in a bloody, violent manner. After the massacre, our heroes realize that the basket merely contained a beloved pet dog. The young daughter then moans, showing that she's not quite dead. Perry White attempts to save her, but Superman pushes him aside and crushes her head like a grape with his Kung-Fu grip, telling Perry "I told you not to stop".

Perry, traumatized by this experience, spends the rest of the movie tripping balls, before being killed by Superman's father (ironically) at the end.

I can see it...

I would just like a decent Lex Luthor. So far they've had two great actors (Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey), both fully capable of playing evil motherfarkers, reduced to comical land hucksters. I don't even care that much about Superman. I think he's boring except when he's getting his ass beat by Batman but do the Luther character right for once.

As for his origin story, I do remember thinking Superman was bad ass when I saw it when I was like 2 years old. Do they really think they're going to top the scene with Marlon Brando and his monolog to Kal el and the giant Christmas tree ornament crashing through the ceiling as the John Williams music comes up...do they really think they're going to top that?

Like I said, I don't really care about Superman although a battle with the Krypton villains with modern FX would be cool. And a new gothic Ursa  would be hot.

He did actually. I didn't even watch that show all that much but what I did see, you're right, he was a very good Luthor. Evil, vindictive, power hungry, wasn't interested in real estate. I was really just talking about the theatrical films, which logically should have been better than a TV show on the WB or UPN or the CW or whatever the fark it  was.

Actually, from the little I saw of Smallville, that should have been made into a theatrical film. Maybe over the dozen seasons they violated too much "canon" or whatever Comic Book Guy complaint someone might have had.

I think the movie was fine. The playground fight scene was farking retarded but I've forgiven some Anakin/Padme scenes in the Star Wars prequels so one overlooks some less than stellar scenes in otherwise decent films. I think Daredevil as a character is sort of boring but that's not the movie's fault, they have to work with they have to work with. I like Ben Affleck. I mean I wouldn't suck him off (unless he asked me) but I think he's a decent actor and a pretty good filmmaker.

As for the Kingpin being black, a black Italian mobster being black, no it doesn't make sense but who gives a fark. And I thought Colin Hanks as Bullseye was pretty cool. They could have established that he was a mutant or something, that he had some supernatural shooting ability. Sort of like Hawk-Bourne in the Avengers.

I dunno, DareDevil was okay.

Wasn't this kind of the plot of Superman II? Only instead of Mr Shadow/Doomsday, it was Zod/the chick/Silent Bob?

Anyway, I'd like to see a Death of Superman movie (after the reboot, I suppose) done right - examining hero worship, self-determination, sense of purpose, altruism and the Nietszchiean "superman" question. As a lead-in to DC's Justice League (if Supes "dies" again, how can the world be safe?!"), maybe...

I suppose they covered this with the "death" scenes in Superman Returns, but a whole movie (written by Chris Nolan or Joss Whedon, until someone else shows they can write superhero movies well) might offer contradictory or new answers to that question.

// the JL cast might be super-awesome
// especially if Ryan Reynolds stays on as GL with Scherbatsky as WW

texdent: Michael Rosembuam made a decent Lex.

The couple of shows I saw he made a good lex because of his motive. He was able to surmise most of Kal-Els existence and decided that a being of that kind of power was a threat to humanity. You know what? He's right. Supes IS a threat to humanity...and he must be stopped.

That's a good villan, right there.

Flappyhead: Dr Dreidel: khitsicker: weve had enough lex movies. whats wrong with giving superman a darkseid or lobo or doomsday movie.

This.

In the 80s, I can understand, because a foam-rubber Doomsday would be the laughingstock of every film that isn't that era's Captain America. But these days, when Supes is going to be CG for every scene that isn't him delivering stilted dialogue, why not use any villain other than Lex?

Fark it, you can even use Brainiac or Bizarro - just, try to think outside the Lex, please?

I don't have a problem with using Lex, they just have to use him right. A Zorg/Mr. Shadow type story would be pretty cool. Lex is the face, the villain(Doomsday maybe) bides his time in the background then comes stomping out once Luther has maneuvered Supes into position.

Doomsday or Darkseid? Because Doomsday is a mindless killing machine. Darkseid is the one with more of a capability to manipulate. As far as having Lex in a Zorg kind of role, I think that Darkseid could find someone to manipulate that is far less... unpredictable (if Lex is done properly) than Luthor.

Luthor is (should be) the villain version of Batman. Beyond smart, calculating and patient. Lex in the movies is always motivated by greed. In the comics and animation he is motivated by his hatred of aliens and metas (specifically Superman) and lust for power. He feels that humans should direct thier own destinies and that he is best suited to lead that destiny.

Lex would be too arrogant to take orders from Darkseid but if he did you can bet the Kent Farm that he has an endgame. Darkseid would require total subservience and loyalty... he even suspects otherwise you're dead.

2013-01-22 02:34:35 PM

Mugato: FreetardoRivera: they can change the race or sex of all the crappy, secondary characters they want as long as we get a new villain

I don't see why they don't just shave Clancy Brown and save a few bucks

TelemonianAjax: I've heard rumor of a script floating around at some point to set a DD film in 70s NYC, full on gritty street level shenanigans. If only...

Weren't no rumor. It was pretty big news a few months ago. Fox was looking at getting a reboot started on Daredevil and that was the script that Joe Carnahan turned in. The rights, however, were set to expire and revert back to Marvel back on October 10th and Fox knew there was absolutely no way for them to have a movie in the can by then. Marvel started offering to extend Fox's lease on the rights if they handed over Galactus and Silver Surfer, but Fox said no dice (since they're trying to do their own mini-Marvel Cinematic Universe and need an epic villain that isn't X-Men-centric) and let the rights expire. So the good news is that Daredevil is back with Marvel. The bad news is that they're sticking to their, "only two or three movies a year," rule and they're booked out through 2015. Hopefully they'll let Carnahan come back on when they finally decide to do Daredevil.

Also, Marvel has The Punisher and Blade back, so it's all coming back together. Slowly.

/Thomas Jane still wants to do more Punisher.

Agreed wholeheartedly re: DareDevil. I've never understood Kingpin before seeing MCD in the role. I also maintain this movie is unfairly maligned due to an unfortunate Benifer backlash, the Director's Cut was one of the better (Pre-Iron Man) Marvel movies.

I've heard rumor of a script floating around at some point to set a DD film in 70s NYC, full on gritty street level shenanigans. If only...

The movie was fairly maligned due the complete craptasticness of the A) acting by Bennifer, and B) the choreography and execution of the action sequences.

While true, at least the novels had some merit with regards to artwork and mood. The movies got rid of all of that and stuck with the slash-fic storyline and terrible dialog.

If you go back to most of Miller's work, it's never been strong on plot.

Nonsense. Darkseid respects and admires ambition above all things -- if a human schemes to overthrow Darkseid he is embracing Darkseid's purest truth!

The Stealth Hippopotamus: Grimlock2099: Doomsday or Darkseid?

Lex has worked with Darkseid before.

dude, that pic has so much wrong with it. Is he just a head and torso? Even Barbie with her elongated neck and limbs couldnt work that suit. It is a great male example of the comic body type argument Fark had a day or two ago.

Mugato: texdent: Michael Rosembuam made a decent Lex.

They should make a Smallville movie where Superman gets tired of Lana's drama queen bullshiat and throws her into the sun. I would go to that movie ten times.

No, Robin. The gay community relies on our homoerotic escapades to advertise their lifestyle.

Yeah....you missed a year or so of continuity, didn't you?

/as much as I love Babs, Steph should still be Batgirl. Her story was just starting to take off when the Nu52 abomination hit

This. She was a very enjoyable Batgirl and Barbara was great as Oracle. I thought they made a really good team.

I thought i was the only one.

I'd love to have someone go back and write the "What If" storyline during BD/DN where Steph get a blue ring.

Jizz Master Zero: Marvel started offering to extend Fox's lease on the rights if they handed over Galactus and Silver Surfer, but Fox said no dice (since they're trying to do their own mini-Marvel Cinematic Universe and need an epic villain that isn't X-Men-centric) and let the rights expire.

Jizz Master Zero: TelemonianAjax: I've heard rumor of a script floating around at some point to set a DD film in 70s NYC, full on gritty street level shenanigans.

Slowly.

I'm sure Disney's Marvel can't wait to put out a movie about a misunderstood, anti-social man in a trenchcoat shooting up of tons people after we just had the Year of the Assault Rifle in the media.

I'm a shill for Dini and I don't think this is a bad idea. He has a good knack for distilling DC superheroes in positive ways that can quiet fanboy arguing over continuity and tone.

Oh no. Nonono. Noooooooo. That was purely the people in charge at the time not respecting the source. No, this was all in the last year or so. That... movie, I guess you could call it, was the reason they wanted to hold on to the rights. Fox believes that there's potential in the Fantastic 4 property, especially if it's combined with the X-Men franchise, and they're doing a total FF reboot from the ground up. They've hired Mark Millar to "oversee" (think Joss Whedon without the writer/director credit) their little Marvel Universe. The previous Fantastic 4 movies aren't being invited in, but the ground they tread is going to be tread again. Hopefully this time with a little dignity.

xcv: I'm sure Disney's Marvel can't wait to put out a movie about a misunderstood, anti-social man in a trenchcoat shooting up of tons people after we just had the Year of the Assault Rifle in the media.

This year? No. But, like I said, they're booked through 2015. The next open slot (that we know of) is 2016 at the soonest. By then, I'm betting the public will have cooled off and the outrage will be minimal, if any at all. Hell, take a look at the slate of movies out now and coming soon: lots of movies with gun-happy anti-heroes. I really don't think that'll be an issue. Also, Disney isn't beyond releasing R movies. That's what they've always historically had their other companies (Touchstone, Hollywood, Miramax, etc) for. Who knows how long their distribution deal with Paramount goes and if they're just going to be distributed through Marvel Films at the end of that partnership. Keep in mind that if you're going to refer to it as Disney's Marvel simply by virtue of ownership then you are, by extension, making it Disney's The Avengers and Disney's Iron Man 3. By that same logic, it also means that we've already seen Disney's Miramax release Disney's Pulp Fiction and Disney's Exotica while Disney's Dimension released Disney's Scream and Disney's From Dusk Till Dawn. Considering that they're pretty much letting Marvel run itself with the same deal that Miramax/Dimension used to have when it was active (do whatever the fark you want, just don't do it NC-17, don't tarnish the brand and make us money), I'm inclined to believe this particular rumor. I just have no reason to believe that it'll happen soon.

An embolism-triggering idea would be if Olsen was a cross-dressing chick this whole time, and "Jimmy" was a way to get around where a gangly, A-cup girl might be conspicuous.
