Will it be called "Sh*t Girls Talk About While They Brush Their Hair", and will it be simply simmering with "eau moy gawd"? Will they like, totally hook up some times, like with, like, people for sex who totally don't appreciate them and like, do stuff? Will television EVER be able to afford writers again? This is IMPORTANT! *snort*

Aren't they already making the Carrie Diaries on the WB?

I swear all the praise this show receives come from people who are afraid that they will to seem old and not with it if they don't call it out for not being funny..

Sex in the City has already been done.

I wonder if someone can be so obsessed with getting attention and success that if we put together a petition for them to suck on a muffler and got a few million to sign it they would actually do it and rid the world of their terrible unoriginal and worthless presence.

Ya know...being "original" isn't hard. Go take a walk, watch a sunset, pinch a loaf......just spend some time and let you mind wander away from the iPad for a minute and see what filters through.

Lena Dunham is to television what the Strokes were to music. Discuss.

Girls, eh?

Is that the show with the fat chick who gets naked?

Yes, yes. A great program. I like it almost as much as I like watching Juno over and over again.

2013-01-22 09:08:14 AM
I've never seen the show but I heard her talk on the radio last week. Does she always talk like that? And by like that I mean talk talk talk talk talk. I mean, the show might be good if she doesn't talk. I couldn't listen to that for an hour.

You also get to watch Brian Williams's daughter masturbate.

/The male characters on the show are way worse

Girls is an amazing show. The writing is crisp and the characters are interesting.

I heard an interview (Fresh Air) with the creator of Girls. She came across as very self-centered and shallow.

/Also at least somewhat frigid.
//Although that could have just been Terry Gross rubbing off on her.

Is she the hot one? I watched part of one episode -- long enough to determine that the wrong girl was getting naked.

"Girls" is terrible.

Self-obsessed white people whining about how their lives aren't perfect. Hilarious.

I blame Woody Allen for this kind of crap. Seriously.

I flipped through channels in the apartment workout room yesterday and settled on a Law and Order: Criminal Intent marathon running on Oxygen. I'm not as confused by why Oxygen was running that show as I am by the ads they were running for their own shows during commercial breaks. Isn't that channel supposed to cater to women? They were flogging some show called "The Bad Girls Club", which appeared to be a Tyler Perry production focusing on sassy black women who cry a lot when they aren't dishing out attitude at each other. And some show called "The Face", which I'm sure isn't an attempt to ride the success of "The Voice", where a few supermodels try desperately to convince an audience that what they do actually takes talent or has merit in any way.

WTF, TV? You suck.

Which can be funny.

It is like woody allen and seinfield but with less serious problems.

What I find really funny are the peopel who say she really shows their "struggles".

The Simpsons neatly summarizes my opinion of the show:

Man: [quietly] Well, sir, it has been an uneventful week in Badger
Falls...where the women are robust, the men are pink-cheeked, and
the children are pink-cheeked and robust.
[Audience laughs loudly]
Homer: What the hell's so funny?
Man: At the Apple Biscuit cafe, where the smiles are free, don't you
know, Sven Inqvist studied the menu, and finally he ordered the
same thing he has every day.
[Audience laughs and applauds]
Bart: Maybe it's the TV.
Homer: Stupid TV. [Hits it] Be more funny!

Really? All I've ever seen from clips are Middle Class White Girls trying to be "black".

That aside, the one theme all these shows you mentioned (except Law & Order, obviously) is that if your not constantly obsessing over your looks/ your life you're not normal.

You, the AV Club, Grantland and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

The show has potential and maybe it will reach it, but I gave up after 3/4ths of the first season. I was three episodes in before my first laugh. This is a comedy that commits the cardinal sin of not being funny. Every character is completely unlikeable. The show tries to be a drama and a comedy and succeeds at neither.

And when Jessa threw the wine bottle at the crust punks I was really, really hoping they would beat the shiat out of her. That's how unlikeable these characters are.

thats my issue with it too. the characters are horribly unlikeable AND they made no effort to grow any of them into something likeable. rooting for the entire cast to die is generally not what a show like this is going for

The one sequence I likes - kinda was with the guy from the I.T. Crowd trying to be amateur DJ with the two girls at his flat. And the very realistic situation that comes up when one attention whore isn't getting any and cock blocks another. Mashing up "Steal My Sunshine" by Len with Bird Sounds or whatever? Funny.

/hates Bedroom Djs
//The show otherwise is kinda unlikable.

Couldn't make it past the first episode where she was complaining about her parents not wanting to support her anymore now that she had graduated college. What a whining little biatch.

Hasn't TV already worn out the "field guide to being an insufferable NYC biatch" theme by now?

See, I kinda like that they aren't likeable. I mean, who amongst us hasn't been an insufferable jerk in their early 20's?

I wasn't Dean Martin cool, but I was a hell of a lot cooler than the characters on that show.

"Girls" might be the current gold standard for widest discrepancy between critical acclaim and actual quality. The show is utterly awful, but somehow people w/ good taste seem to like it. TV Globes and Emmys are almost as irrelevant as Grammies.

Here's the thing about that.

It's the "actual quality" thing. It is rather subjective, especially in dealing with television. Thing is, if you want to paint the critic of an art as some elitist, out-of-touch ninny, it's just as likely the average consumer of said art, using that same lens, is an uneducated, uncultured moron who'll watch anything if it's on long enough. I am not a fan of "Girls" by any means, but I can understand why it may hold sway over the standard CBS sitcom ("Coming soon, Not-so-famous any more movie star in the new hit series 'FART!'").

You don't think the TV Globes(what in the hell?) or the Emmys are relevant? Watch the People's Choice Awards some time. It's like the flea market of awards shows.
