I thought I was going to get snowed out, but it was clear! Then I realized why I don't observe stuff near the moon.

I need to flock my telescope. That's not a euphemism.

RoughTrickNamedJim: I forgot I have a sliding glass door in the living room and a clear shot. Here you go! Taken with a Canon 7D and a 200mm lens.

Wow! Thanks for that

I wonder if the sea life that lives on Europa looks up at us through the cracks in the ice there and wonders who is out there?

Hard to beat the pics from the occultation last summer, though.

/I'll be, uh, polishing the monolith.

Took out my binoculars and took a look. It was pretty nice, but the light from the moon made looking at Jupiter kind of annoying. I did not feel like dragging out my telescope. I got to look at the Orion nebula and the Pleiades while I was out there.

I am NOT going outside in frostbite-inducing windchill. Uh uh.

Figures I can't see the moon from here. Maybe once I get up the hill...

If I ever get a spaceship, the first thing I'll do is land on Europa and stomp around singing "Climb Every Mountain" while grabbing my junk.

Wish I had better equipment, but we had an ice ring around the moon in Savannah:

My monolith spans deep impact craters all the way to Uranus.

I was kinda expectin' Jupiter to be bigger than the Moon. What with it bein' a planet and all...

Here's a recorded view I took earlier Link

antidisestablishmentarianism: Are you kidding? It's 7 below zero outside and windy.

It's 4 above and not windy. I'm still not going back out.

I saw it when I was walking my dog, but couldn't get home in time to slap the 400mm lens and 1.4x extender on my camera to get a shot of it.

Kittypie070: I just took a quick peek through binoculars. Wish I had steadier hands.

Jupiter looks like a spangle of light next to the not quite round silver coin of the moon.

The sunlight is striking the rim of a really big lunar crater just a bit over the terminator, definitely north of the lunar equator.

What a pretty sight.

Grab a broom.

2013-01-23 08:10:51 PM
I'm gonna beat you with that broom, ya dork.
