Well, there's an Australian lab that's working on transporters, and the replicator will probably be an outgrowth of that once they manage to get to complex molecules.

\Currently working with subatomic particles, so a long way off.

What's so geeky cool is the fact that these new inventions are already using the names Star Trek gave them many decades ago.
