I'd love a job where I just throw snowballs at people, not so much about the retaliation part though.

I would have rather seen the teenagers arrested and cited for assault of an emergency worker.

But that is just me.

Not that I think throwing snowballs at firefighters is some kind of laudable thing, but if it's cold enough to be able to make snowballs, drenching someone in water could kill them.

Not if they are smart enough to go get dry cloths on instead of further harassing the fire fighters that ain't Siberia. although throwing snowballs at someone with a fire hose isn't very smart no matter the weather.

If this was the US (Land of the Free tm) the kiddies would have been tazed, beaten and charged with attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon.

Wow, talk about an overreaction on the part of the firefighter.

/have actually been hit with the brunt of the water from a firehose before. It is more force than you realize.

In America the kids would be arrested for throwing the snowballs at an emergency worker, the fireman would have been fired then sued by the kids parents for spraying the kids and endangering their health and lives. I mean, after all, it could have given them their death of flu or blown them off the bridge.

In England everyone laughs and has fun...

America really sucks sometimes....

When I was a kid in Poughkeepsie, NY, we would throw snowballs at passing buses, garbage trucks, and fire engines. More than once, the fire engine would stop, and we would have a snowball fight with the firemen.

Good times.

I do believe that the fireman got hit in the face. Soaked with water in freezing temps is fair retaliation.

They're in the middle of a city, not halfway up Everest. Even if you're nearly submerged in cold water, which is way better at killing you than cold air, if you're floating enough that your head doesn't go under, you've got ballpark an hour before you die of hypothermia.

The whole "getting sued for something minor" isn't exclusive to the USA -- it's just as prevalent in the UK as it is here.

The USA and the UK have more in common than you'd think -- you can still get mugged if you're in the wrong place at night, unemployment is at the same level as it is in the USA, and section 5 of the public order act makes "insulting comments" illegal (One young man was charged for holding a sign that read "Scientology is a dangerous cult.")

You can get mugged anywhere if you're in the "wrong place at night."

World wide economic slowdown.

Section 5 has been amended, over Labour's objections, to remove the word "insulting."

Scientology is a cult.

/That is all, wanker.

As the Weeners in TFA rightly points out, that's not a firefighter. He's a worker using water pressure to clean the underside of the bridge. It looks like he also hosed the garbage on top of the bridge.

To further the fun, firefighters later got to tease the teens with the possibility of treatment for hypothermia.

I have it on good authority that those kids could jaunt on home and change into dry clothes because it takes an hour before hypothermia kills you.

Firefighter thread! (I don't have much relevant to say though.)

I did end up having a snowball fight with a kid while volunteering at an event via fire department. Not sure which one of us started it.

It stops throwing the snowballs or gets the hose again.
