TV's Vinnie: They tried this in the 1930's with the "Antarctic Snow Cruiser". A bus-like vehicle that was part RV camper, part aircraft carrier.[www.retronaut.com image 598x448][www.retronaut.com image 598x365]It's tires were useless against the ice & snow and was abandoned. It was rediscovered in the 40's but later expeditions could find no trace of it, leading to some theories that it either was buried under tons of ice, sunk during melting periods, or was stolen by the Soviets.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antarctic_Snow_Cruiser
Arkanaut: What kind of antifreeze do they use? I just looked up ethylene glycol, and that freezes at 9oF. The average Antarctic winter sees temperatures of below -100oF on average.
