Might as well, according to some derp sources it was ruined by placement of the Crazy Horse monument next to it.

Thing is, there's just not much market for a Mt. Rushmore and I don't want it sitting on my shelves.  I'll give you $50 bucks for it.

Good one, Jay.

They could have gotten more than 50 bucks but they couldn't produce the receipt.

There's alot of fakes too, better have someone check it out.

They should sell the Statue of Liberty before scrappers steal it.

And I'm taking a flyer on it. It's a nice mountain, but in this economy, people just aren't buying them anymore.

My idea is to nationalize all the art museums and auction off all non-American art. The contents of the Met in New York is probably a couple of trillion all on its own.

See that nose there? It's obviously been repaired, and not very well. This Rushmore's worth maybe 20 bucks, tops.

I had a bunch on Canadian investors lined up to buy it until they realized those president noses would make lousy ski jumps.

Let me call in a buddy of mine who is an expert in Americana and granite sculpture before I make you an offer

Maybe we can shop Florida around a bit. I bet Spain would like to get it back. Let's get a bid from them and then see how much Russia would give for it.

Generation_D: Might as well, according to some derp sources it was ruined by placement of the Crazy Horse monument next to it.

Really? It's not as if they're right next to each other.

Anyway, Crazy Horse is being built by the extended family of a crazy Polish sculptor who basically bootstrapped the idea with $147 and a jackhammer. He was literally living in a shack on the mountain when he started. You'd think the Derp Brigade would see a kindred spirit.

But seriously. If you are paying a large share of your income on servicing debt payments, and you are sitting on loads of valuable assets, wouldn't you normally think about selling off some assets to retire the debit and get rid of the interest payments?

Actually it had used as a dump by native Americans. When they first began surveying they found the bones of hundreds of bison at the base that had clearly been dismembered and cooked.

clambam: My idea is to nationalize all the art museums and auction off all non-American art. The contents of the Met in New York is probably a couple of trillion all on its own.

I think a trillion is a little bit more money than you think. The Met has about 2 million works of art. A ton of them are on loan, but even saying they could sell all of it, that would require selling for an average of $500,000/piece. Obviously some pieces will be worth far more than that, but I'd still say the overall average would be closer to $50,000.

If you sold the building itself, the land it sat on, and all of Central Park (valued at about $500 billion I've heard) I'm still not sure you'd hit 1 trillion.

Screw it, let's just go back to the barter system. Damn worthless fiat money has us selling things to ourselves so that we can get ourselves in more debt.

Naming rights people! We don't have to sell our assets and landmarks, just offer corporate commercial sponsorships for a few to help raise funds. It's all about the marketing!

For example:

The Washington Monument, Presented by Viagra
Dirt Devil's Tower
The Depends Hoover Dam
Old Faithful, by Metamucil

You get the idea ... I know there are better suggestions out there ...

Just send Hoover a huge bill. They've been getting a huge subsidy for decades.

Because selling off assets has worked great for the states that have done it, right?

A Canadian company has the mineral rights for Mt. Rushmore. They're going to drill in through Lincoln's head.

Needs a lot of restoration and by restoration I mean it needs to be finished. There's no profit in it.

I brought that up.  His story to me was that since you had to look at Crazy Horse on your way to seeing Rushmore, it was "obviously put there to make an anti-American statement."

This guy is dating my wife's sister.  I now have a window into the derpisphere.

It is one of the most holy places for the Lakota and other people. Just because animal bones were found there does not lessen its importance to those people, nor does it make it a 'dump'. The entire place has been transformed to insult them. One of the largest towns in the black hills is called Custer. It is like carving a mask of Hitler on the side of a Synagogue.

LOL. Just a quick glance at a map of the Black Hills and I can see at least four different routes to Mt Rushmore that avoid Crazy Horse.

Enjoy your insight into the derposphere.

But yes I do agree that bones are more indicative of an annual hunting ground, see Buffalo Jumps in Alberta etc. I don't think it's a big FU but more of a manifest destiny thing in my opinion.
